A Message From Liz

Hi Team,

Here comes Spring! Can you believe the first quarter of 2025 has already flown by?

Even with everything going on, I’m proud that we continue to make space to celebrate and connect. From Dental Assistants Week to Valentine’s Day to Ramadan, we ’ ve taken moments to spotlight what matters. In February, we focused on Self Love Month—offering real, practical ways to care for ourselves and each other.

We’re a high-performing healthcare facility serving thousands, but what makes us truly special is how we affirm and uplift one another along the way.

This month also marks a major milestone in our 3-year Strategic Plan. Our partnership with Stanford Tri-Valley Hospital has taken a big step forward: all 8 of their available residency positions have been filled, and we’ll be welcoming new residents in late June. This is a huge achievement for Axis Community Health and a testament to the incredible work we do every day.

Thank you for your dedication and teamwork, which make these achievements possible! Looking forward to seeing you at our May Gratitude Luncheon!

March is... National Colorectal Cancer Awareness

Month

This month, the Livermore and Pleasanton clinics have been engaged in a friendly competition to see who could order the highest percentage of colorectal cancer screenings for patients who are overdue for testing. The winners will be featured in the next issue of Axis Insider!

As part of the awareness and prevention campaign, on March 19, Axis staff were encouraged to wear blue in honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month Take a look at some of the photos below!

Relieving Pain and Restoring Mobility: How Chiropractic and Acupuncture Can Help

Contributors: Axis Acupuncture and Chiropractic Teams

Back pain is one of the most common health concerns, affecting millions of people and often leading to missed work, financial strain, and emotional stress. At Axis, we are committed to providing quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare solutions that enhance the well-being of our community. Whether through chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, or a combination of treatments, we strive to help patients achieve pain relief, restore mobility, and improve their quality of life.

Chiropractic care focuses on addressing the root causes of joint and muscle pain in the spine, helping patients regain movement and reduce pain. For example, an Axis patient suffered chronic low back and tailbone pain for over 20 years, making simple tasks like sitting for more than 10 minutes a challenge Through a personalized treatment plan - including targeted in-clinic sessions and at-home exercises - she saw significant improvements within just a few visits. After chiropractic rehabilitation, her pain had diminished to mild discomfort on rare occasions, allowing her to move more freely and live with confidence.

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine practice, complements chiropractic care by promoting healing and pain relief through the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body. It is especially effective for conditions such as back pain, stress, headaches, and joint pain An Axis patient who had persistent low back and hip pain relied on pain medication multiple times a day with little relief After beginning acupuncture treatments, she was able to go without medication for up to a week. Another patient, struggling with long-term knee pain and mobility issues, found lasting relief and was soon able to comfortably enjoy long walks.

According to a July 2021 National Center for Health Statistics data brief, aging adults, women, and individuals with lower incomes are particularly at risk. Fortunately, noninvasive treatments like chiropractic care and acupuncture provide effective solutions for pain relief, improved mobility, and overall well-being. If you know of a patient who could benefit from these services, please consider referring them to our chiropractic and acupuncture teams – now available in both Livermore and Pleasanton

Fighting Burnout Staff Wellness Feature

Burnout has become widely common amid the fast-paced culture and chronic stress we have grown used to in the past decade. The constant juggling of work, family, and other responsibilities can have major implications on your physical and mental health.

Signs of Burnout

Recognizing the signs of burnout is the first step towards addressing it Here are some common indicators:

Excessive fatigue

Insomnia

Susceptibility to illness

Irritability and mood disorders

3 Ways to Counteract Burnout

Errors at work

Decreased productivity

Loss of overall vitality

Recognize: To counteract burnout, start by recognizing its signs- emotional, physical, and cognitive fatigue (exhaustion), feeling unengaged or disconnected (cynicism), and lack of productivity and feelings of incompetence (inefficacy). Rate these on a scale of 1-10 to gauge your burnout level.

Respond by seeking support from someone who listens without judgment, focusing on what you can control, reflecting on what’s meaningful in your day-to-day, setting boundaries to avoid unnecessary commitments, disconnecting from technology with daily breaks, and incorporating activities that energize you.

Recharge by weaving small behaviors like meditation, short walks, music, or family time into your day Consider a menu of options such as 10-minute meditations, 5minute breaks, weekly hikes, and monthly massages, and book these activities into your calendar to prioritize your well-being.

Axis’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers tools and guidance to help your well-being through resources like ComPsych. To learn more about your EAP, visit the Benefits File on Teams!
