Screen Conversion – Position Management
The Position management screen has been converted to NextGen.
Here are some key enhancements we’ve introduced as part of this screen conversion:
Enhanced Grid View – A new grid layout has been implemented, offering standard search and filter capabilities for each column. Additionally, you can sort the grid by the Position Description column for improved usability.
Classic Tabs Retained for Position Management – All other tabs within the Position Management screen remain accessible on Classic. These tabs are available at the top of the screen once a position record is opened
Please Note: These tabs are exclusive to Premier and Master edition
Position History Section – We’ve introduced a Position History section which stores details of all updates made over time with the most recent record shown first. This allows for clear and efficient tracking of historical updates.
Copy Functionality – Easily duplicate Position details with a new effective date using the newly added copy feature.
Removed Redundant Fields – The sst level and Direct Reports to Position fields have been removed from the screen
Please take note that validations have been updated to restrict duplicate Position Titles Each Position record must have a unique combination of both Position Title and Position Code.
Screen Conversion – Employee Recurring Costing
The Employee Recurring Costing screen has been converted to NextGen.
Key enhancements introduced as part of this screen conversion:
Recurring Cost Split based on Projects –Recurring costs can now be split by Projects and not only Cost Centres.
Percentage Indicator – We’ve introduced a percentage bar that visually displays the percentage of total cost allocated. As users add allocation splits, the bar updates to show progress toward the full 100%.
History Tracking –The History section will also include a new ‘Based On’ column that indicates whether each past allocation was calculated using cost centres or projects.
Bulk Action – Rater Setup
We’ve created a Rater Setup bulk action designed to effortlessly upload employee rater information as well as manage their process type and default template combinations.
The Rater Setup bulk action is located under Bulk Actions > Employee > Performance Management
The template for Rater Setup includes the following fields:
An “Inherit Rater from Position” checkbox field can be used that simplifies rater assignment, cutting down on manual capturing. This feature guarantees consistent rater information that is always in sync with your employee Position information.
Here’s how it works:
• For Direct Reports or Manager rater types – When you select these, the system will automatically allocate the person linked as “Directly Reports to Person” on an employee’s Position details screen as the default rater. Meaning you don’t have to specify the rater employee number on the sheet manually!
• Need a different rater? – In cases where the downward rater isn’t the same as the person linked on the employee’s Position screen, simply set this field to False and then you can specify the correct rater’s employee number.
• For Self rater type – The system will automatically assign the correct employee as the self-rater, so you don’t have to fill in the rater employee number field in the Bulk Upload template at all.

Clarity on the application of the in duplum rule on outstanding fund contributions
The in duplum rule is a legal principle originating from Roman law and part of South African common law. The rule limits the amount of interest that can accumulate on a debt. It essentially states that the total amount of unpaid interest cannot exceed the original outstanding capital amount of the debt. In other words, once the unpaid interest equals the principal debt, the interest stops accruing. The rule aims to protect debtors from excessive interest accumulation and encourages lenders to pursue debt recovery promptly.
There have been significant differences of opinion in the case law.
Making Sense of Medical Tax Credits in South Africa
Let’s face it medical costs can be overwhelming. Whether it’s your monthly medical aid premium or those unexpected visits to the doctor, it all adds up. But did you know that South Africa’s tax system offers a way to ease some of that financial pressure? It’s called the Medical Tax Credit (MTC) and the Additional Medical Expenses Tax Credit (AMTC). Let’s break it down in simple terms.
What is the Medical Tax Credit (MTC)?
Think of the MTC as a monthly tax rebate for being part of a registered medical aid. It’s not cash in your pocket, but it does reduce the amount of tax you owe, which is always a win. Here’s how it works for the 2024/2025 tax year:
Constitutional Court Redefines Death Benefit Distribution Under Pension Funds Act
On 8 August 2025, the Constitutional Court delivered a pivotal ruling in Mutsila v Municipal Gratuity Fund and Others, significantly redefining the interpretation of section 37C of the Pension Funds Act, 1956 (PFA). This decision overturns the precedent established by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Guarnieri v Fundsatwork Umbrella Pension Fund, a move widely regarded as both critical and progressive.
