Terug naar 1066 – The Battle of Hastings

Een van de meest iconische momenten in de geschiedenis van Engeland, is de Battle of Hastings, waar het leger van King Harold en William van Normandië met elkaar in strijd gingen om de Engelse troon. Vandaag kan je deze plek ontdekken, waar de beslissende 9 urendurende slag plaatsvond die de toekomst van Engeland verregaand bepaalde. Bezoek de Harold stone waar King Harold de strijd verloor, en wandel langs de Battlefield waar de houten sculpturen te zien zijn die symbool staan voor de Angelsaksische en Normandische soldaten die er het leven lieten. Vanuit de Benedictine Abbey, die door William de Veroveraar werd gebouwd na zijn overwinning, heb je een adembenemend uitzicht op deze site, en het omliggende landschap van Sussex. Today you can discover this place, where the decisive 9-hour battle took place that shaped the future of England. Visit the Harold Stone where King Harold was defeated, and wander along the Battlefield to see the wooden sculptures that symbolise the Anglo-Saxon and Norman soldiers who lost their lives there.
