STAND UP PADDLING

Paddlers are introduced to the basics of paddling technique, canoe mechanics, and extending their skills to various seat positions in the canoe. For example, they may be encouraged to try the “stroke” seat that sets the crew’s pace; they may also develop some basic skills as a steers person, learning to navigate the canoes from point to point. Successful completion of this class includes 2 practices with captial outrigger.

Saturdays • 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Veteran paddlers continue to work on their stroke techniques as well as extending their skills in steering and general handling of the canoes with overall fitness which is an ongoing goal for all. Personal goals of paddlers can vary from strictly recreational to a combination of recreational paddling and competitive racing to serious dedication to higher level competitive racing. Coaches plan workouts that support the goals of each paddler whatever that may be. May

Paddlers training for races commit to regular attendance during the summer months when both sprint and long distance races take place. These paddlers develop more refined stroke techniques and increased overall fitness and endurance. Competitive paddlers are encouraged but not required to attend all races.
