Basic Power Boating Class

9 HOURS

(Cost includes textbook)

Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical “hands on” experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. The classroom will cover the rules of navigation, anatomy of a vessel, theory of small boat engines and propulsion, knots, and seamanship. On the water practical will cover basic maneuvering and handling, docking and disembarking, and man overboard drills. California Department of Boating and Waterways safety course certificate is included.

Students must have successfully completed the Basic Power Boating Class. Information based on USA Water Ski Trained Driver Practical.

This clinic includes California Trailering Law, mechanics of trailers, backing, ramp etiquette, maneuvering, and trailering.

This class is for those wishing to learn the art of handling a recreational “ski” boat. Emphasis is placed on the skill of driving a power boat on Folsom Lake simulating towing a skier or boarder transitioning from “low speed” to “on plane”, high speed turns and returning to a down skier. Students will meet at Folsom Lake at the Folsom Point Launch Ramp.
