Helpful hints when sailing at the Sac State Aquatic Center
For lake conditions call: 916-278-2842 or check the weather link on our website.
For safety purposes, 2 people are required to rent the Quest, Holder 20 (Keelboats) or Catalina 22.
Thou shalt not sail where birds are standing.
If you see birds standing on what looks like water, they are usually on a “shoal” or shallow area. Lake Natoma is surrounded by cobble and rock. These elements are hazardous to the bottom of a fiberglass boat. Learn and know the shallows and shoal areas. PLEASE STAY CLEAR.
Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) and FOOTWEAR with heelstraps must be WORN AT ALL TIMES.
Do not attempt to beach or land your boat anywhere except the Aquatic Center docks.
Due to heightened security, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation is extremely sensitive to the Nimbus Dam facility. Please stay at least 200 feet clear of Nimbus Dam.
The Aquatic Center will not permit boat launching from our facility in extremely high wind, high current flow, or electrical storm conditions.
All sailors must know the proper use, care, and storage of Aquatic Center equipment.
Sailboats need to abide by right of way rules. Lake Natoma is a multi-use lake so please be respectful of all users (swimmers, rowers, paddlers, etc.).

Remember: Water, sun block, and a paddle can be your best friend!
