Community News 68th Doncaster Hatfield scout Group Beavers did a smartie fund raiser for the guide dogs for the blind in October and had a great visit from Anne and her puppy Betty. Each Beaver took a tube of smarties home to eat, and then brought them back to give to Anne full of coins. A magnificent £65.50 was raised thanks to all the families involved. By the time this is printed the beaver scout section will have enjoyed another sleepover at the village hall. Cubs have been busy working on their World Challenge Badge, learning about other countries, their cub promise and local games, along with the countries traditions, religion, landmarks, food and famous people. The scout and cub sections have joined for some activities in November, including outdoor cooking at Sandall Beat wood and going Ice Skating to the Dome. On November 13th many of the group attended the Remembrance Service and marched to Hatfield Woodhouse memorial to lay wreaths. We are looking forward to all three sections will joining for 2 xmas events, our xmas party, and on December 14th our xmas service at St Lawrence Church in Hatfield to round off the year. It’s been a busy year for 68th and we are delighted to see scouting growing again in Hatfield. Work has also continued on our scout hut. A small group of parents are working on the project but we are always happy to have more help, so if there is anything you can offer either as goods or services please contact the group. For more information visit our website 68hatfieldscouts.org.uk HATFIELD WOODHOUSE AMATEUR GARDENING SOCIETY The Society held its Annual General meeting on Tuesday 1 November at Hatfield Woodhouse Club. The Chairman welcomed everybody to the meeting, and then gave a summary of the past year’s events. These included the Shows in Spring and Autumn, several speakers, and an outing to Melton Mowbray followed by Geoff Hamilton’s Garden at Barnsdale. He concluded by saying that the year had been very successful in terms of activities. After other reports, Officers were elected for the forthcoming year. Those elected were: John Brown (Chairman), Rita Chafen (Minute Secretary), Lesley Colwill (Treasurer), Brenda White (Membership Secretary), Phil Geoghegan (Trophy Secretary), Pam Banks (Speaker Finder) and Joan Brown (Raffle Secretary). Dorothy Elvey, Geoff Firth and Val Geoghegan were elected as Committee Members. The evening concluded with a picture show of photographs taken at this year’s Spring Show. The meeting in December will herald the forthcoming festive season. Our speaker will be Pauline Berry who will be talking about, and demonstrating, making Christmas decorations. As usual, the meeting will be at Hatfield Woodhouse Club on Tuesday 6 December commencing at 7-30 pm. All members and non members are cordially invited to attend.
