A Bit about Arlesey WI... To be honest, when I decided to try out our local W.I. all those years ago, I wasn’t just thinking I feel a bit isolated living in a village, where I barely knew anyone, in a house full of males (nothing wrong with that, but sometimes they don’t need to talk much) ….....I was thinking about the rumours of cake! I was from Hertfordshire and the W.I in Hertford used to report in the local paper, on a weekly basis: “This week Mrs Smith came to talk to us about her skiing trip in Austria and we had a raffle and a large victoria sponge!” It sounded great!
I was in my early forties, I hadn’t planned to join until my friend’s and I had retired.( I had the same, wrong impression, like a lot of people who think it’s only for older women) So the first night, I waited out in my car, like a stalker, I called my friend’s, how they laughed when I said what I was doing that evening – Crazy Bag Whist ! (What on earth is that? Or words to that effect) I saw the large boxed cake going in.........I said “ I’m going in!” and I did and I have been going in ever since! We meet at least once a month, sometimes more. People ask me “What do you do, is it all Jam and Jerusalum? are there pointy hats? What do you talk about?.......you wouldn’t believe what I have Anxiety, Weight Release, Depression, been asked in the past! Fears & Phobias, Smoking Cessation, Hypnobirthing Let’s just say Arlesey W.I has been going for over one hundred years and it’s Hypno-Gastric Band Therapy..... not all about the cake..Sometimes we just have a chat and a laugh and do Make positive changes to your life something crafty. Sometimes we vote on subjects that effect people all over in the comfort of our the world – Subjects too many to list here but everything from FGM to Helping Stotfold hypnotherapy room. We have all felt a bit isolated of late and I can’t explain it, but when you come to W.I, you don’t worry about what’s going on outside of that hall, you can relax among friendly faces. All women are welcome – It doesn’t matter where you are from, what school you went to or which football team you support........Nothing matters not even your age.
Come and visit us on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm – First visit is free! Come and have a go at something different........We don’t talk and about jam and there isn’t a pointy hat in sight!
