The PMACS Indonesian programme begins in PrePrimary where students are introduced to songs and games with an emphasis on listening and speaking. Students also assist with the Indonesian garden and participate in activities in the bamboo and thatched roof ‘pendopo’ (gazebo).
Mr Lomas was recognised for supporting and promoting the teaching and learning of Indonesian at PMACS, specifically the Accelerated Indonesian Programme, WA Languages week events and Indonesian assemblies. He also supports professional development opportunities and engaging with the wider community through Indonesian Consulate celebrations, the Student Exchange Programme and hosting the Balai Bahasa Perth adult Indonesian evening classes.
Since 2013, the School has offered an accelerated pathway for secondary students. This programme is unique to PMACS, allowing high-achieving learners to complete the Year 12 ATAR course for Indonesian: Second Language in Year 11.
Additionally, the PMACS student team comprising of Denzel Mitchell (Year 7), Gemma Agostini (Year 7), Isabella Toovey (Year 8) and Abby Palmer-Smith (Year 10) won First Prize for Indonesian in the Secondary School category at the inaugural MLTAWA Languages Live! Competition held at the end of October.
Students in previous years have enjoyed travelling to Indonesia and experiencing the language and culture first-hand. Current students are looking forward to international travel recommencing post-COVID, to participate in the overseas Study Tour for students in Years 9 to 12.
Secondary School students also participate in a range of activities including connecting with our Sister School located in Surabaya, performing Indonesian music and attending cultural performances and special events at the Indonesian Consulate.
