Cathedral College Wangaratta
CHANGING OF THE GUARD
In a changing of the guard, this year Cathedral College Wangaratta (CCW) will farewell College Chaplain, The Reverend David Jones and prepare to welcome The Reverend Dr Mark Mickleborough to the College in 2022.
Reverend Jones joined the College in 2015 and was instrumental in building strong foundations in the structure of teaching Religious Education and developing the RAVE curriculum.
When asked to reflect on his time at CCW, David said: “I’ve really enjoyed being part of a dynamic and caring school community with many wonderful opportunities to touch the lives of young people on a day-to-day basis.
“The opportunity to teach a variety of subjects over the years has been great, and of course shaping the RAVE and Chapel programs within the school.
“It has been a privilege to share with students who struggle academically or with life’s troubles and seeing them find the grit and resilience to overcome and watch them grow into fine young adults.”
One of David’s main legacies is the development of opportunities for students to gain experience beyond our shores through the organisation and implementation of service learning trips to Nepal and Samoa. “There have been so many wonderful times but engaging with students outside the classroom on a variety of topics, particularly about faith and spirituality on school trips has been wonderful,” he said.
When asked about his thoughts on the future of this important role in the College, David says: “I would like to see the foundations of the RAVE and Chapel programs grow and strengthen over the coming years, and I see the new school Chapel offering opportunities to promote Christian and Gospel values to the school community.
“There is also the importance of the three-fold ministry of teaching, worship and Pastoral Care as a School Chaplain, which I believe is the key to building strong, trusted relationships and connections in the school community.”
While David will not be working at CCW full-time, he will continue to head up the ASC partnership with All Saints Anglican School in Samoa, along with being available for some of CCW’s Camps and Outdoor Education Trips.
We are very thankful for the contribution that David has made to the school and wish him all the best in this next phase of his life.
The College will welcome Reverend Mickleborough in the new year. He has had School Chaplain experience at Geelong Grammar (Timbertop Campus) and Trinity Grammar, Kew and is looking forward to being part of the Cathedral College community and getting to know the students and staff.
