Kaributena

Dear friends of Alliance française, In April, Alliance française got some new colors thanks to an ephemeral piece of work realized by Fred Theys, on the wall of our outside space. The red which bordes these two mural painting will be again in the spotlight of our upcoming program. This time, it will be to roll out the ‘red carpet’ for the introduction of Frédéric Baillif et KantaramaGahigiri’s movie. This event will offer us a time for discussion around the movie, but not only ; it will give us details on the approach initiated by a group of youth in order to present their movie at the Cannes Festival. This unique meeting will be proposed in an exceptional partnership with the embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania. In July and August, the library will still be open and it will offer a variety of documents regarding the European programs in Tanzania, as a results of a renewed agreement between Alliance francaise and the EU Delegation in Tanzania. Students will also be able to have information regarding universities exchanges including the Erasmus program. Before taking some days off in July and August, Alliance française will welcome a major cultural event with a classical music concert in an usual format, since it will be a duo accordion- violin. Organized with the French Embassy, this musical rendez-vous will propose a French musical repertoire. Finally, the traditional event of the 21st of June will be to celebrate the ‘World Music Day’. A festive moment to live with your family and friends, it will offer a large programming of amateurs and professional artists reunited to share and celebrate their passion for music. In colors or music, you are welcome at Alliance française ! Karibu tena.

Les Souvenirs (France, 2014) Sixty-two-year-old Michel (Michel Blanc, Les Bronzés) has just lost his father and is retiring from a 40-year career working for the French postal service. When his mother Madeleine (Annie Cordy, Crime is our Business) falls and hurts herself in her Paris apartment, Michel and his two brothers decide to take her to a retirement home. Luckily for Madeleine, her 23-year-old grandson Romain (charming newcomer Mathieu Spinosi) regularly comes to visit her, bringing a bit of joy and insouciance to her gloomy surroundings. One day, Michel receives a call from the home’s manager (Audrey Lamy, also starring in this year’s Festival film Thanks to My Friends): Madeleine has run away. When Romain receives a postcard from his grandmother, he takes to the road to find her.

Chikaya Buruya My name is Chikaya Buruya. I am Tanzanian. I became aware of my singing ability a few years ago. To develop it I decided to go to the Tasuba Arts College in Bagamoyo. I started off at the lower certificate level and later on I did a Diploma in performing arts. While doing the diploma I was also involved in a band called Mwalimu Godykaoza. With this experience and training I had sufficient confidence to go independent. Two years ago I decided to try to earn a living from music since I was able to write as well as to perform music. I started off on this route performing as Chikaya. Todate I have performed with Afrikabisa and I had a stint in a small music festival called Karibu Festival. I have also performed with Dad Letzte Kleonod of Germany acting in African parts, singing and dancing. All these experiences have enhanced my confidence as a musician. Now I am performing by the name of Africanfolk. This is mainly because I do a fusion of African and Western rhythms.

A nos amours (France, 1983) With his raw style of filmmaking, Maurice Pialat has been called the John Cassavetes of French cinema, and the scorching À nos amours is one of his greatest achievements. In a revelatory film debut, the dynamic, fresh-faced Sandrine Bonnaire plays Suzanne, a fifteen-year-old Parisian who embarks on a sexual rampage in an effort to separate herself from her overbearing, beloved father (played with astonishing magnetism by Pialat himself), ineffectual mother, and brutish brother. A tender character study that can erupt in startling violence, À nos amours is one of the high-water marks of eighties French cinema.

DÉBAT

9th June 2017

La ou les démocraties : un modèle en question Democracy or Democracies: a model in question Of all the political systems, Democracy has, in the modern world, the best reputation. It is of common understanding by a majority of the world’s population that it is the political model to strive for. But what does it mean to have a democratic state? Is there only one type of democracy or a multiplicity of democracies? What place should a citizen have in shaping their country’s democracy? A panel bringing together Tanzanian and French specialists from different sectors of society will lead an interactive discussion on these subjects, where participation of the public is highly encouraged. On this occasion, the French Embassy to Tanzania, with the support of the Institut Français, has invited Prof. Richard BALME, director of the International Public Management Master at the Paris School of International Affairs of SciencesPo Paris.
