EDITORIAL

Dear friends of Alliance Française, Dear students, The year started in fanfare with three splendid exhibitions (World Press Photo exhibition, Solo exhibition by Amani Abeid and collection of instruments by Gérard Bruno), we hope that you enjoyed like us by discovering them. Beyond their aesthetic aspect, each one attracted the viewer to ask oneself about our world, our environment and the important educational project to defend. Let’s move back to March, is not a month like others for the lovers of French language. It is in March of each year that the Francophone Week is organized. This event that honors the French language will be organized in this year from March 18 to 23. Organized by the Francophone embassies and diplomatic missions, this event facilitates the spread the values of the French language in the world. It will be an opportunity for a rich cultural, diverse and eclectic program... like cultural project of Alliance Française in Dar es Salaam. Artworks from different continents will be presented during the week, and Francophone culture is programmed in different forms such as concerts, films, debates... We will be delighted to welcome several Tanzanian children involved in learning of French during a special morning of artistic meetings with the students of Arthur Rimbaud French School. In April, we will extend our partnership with the Canadian High Commission for International Film Day with the presentation of jewel of animation cinema “THE BREADWINNER” by Nora Twomey’. Documentary Screening

FRI 1st MAR 2019

les arbres Tanzaniens In Tanzania, Jeji B. is interested in the ancestral practices of the Makondé tribe, which he knows well, and he has made more than 250 wooden drums, thus bringing genuine works of art, reminiscent of memory and with its precious history, is a genuine act of resistance to the ravages of globalization, which in a subterranean but inescapable way robs the country’s wealth and begins the soul of the Tanzanian people. The forest is disappearing, taking with her the art of making instruments, music, and a whole section of the country’s culture.

This screening will be followed by Q&A session which will be held after the screening.

In order to get away with his speeding, Driss claims the quadriplegic Philippe must be urgently driven to the emergency room; Philippe pretends to have a stroke and the fooled police officers eventually escort them to the hospital. As the police leave them at the hospital, Philippe asks what will they do now, to which Driss answers: “Now let me take care of it.” as they drive off. The story of the two men is then told as a flashback, which takes up almost the rest of the film.

Braguino (2017) In the middle of the Siberian taiga, 450 miles from the nearest village, live two families: the Braguines and the Kilines. Not a single road leads there. A long trip on the Ienissei River, first by boat, then by helicopter, is the only way to reach Braguino. Self-sufficient, both families live there according to their own rules and principles. In the middle of the village: a barrier. The two families refuse to speak. In the river sits an island, where another community is being built: that of the children. Free, unpredictable, wild. Stemming from the fear of the other, that of wild beasts, and the joy procured by the immensity of the forest, unravels a cruel tale in which tensions and fear give shape to the geography of an ancestral conflict.
