EMPOWERING PARTICIPANTS, ENRICHING LIVES

We are privileged to be part of an organisation that holds the goals and needs of our participants at the heart of everything we do. Our participants have entrusted us with not just providing services and supports, but also rely on us to help them achieve their goals. As outstanding care and support workers, it is our duty to be the best we can be and set ourselves apart from other providers.

So what makes outstanding care and support workers and how can we continue to excel in our roles?

Putting Participants First

As care and support workers, we play a crucial role in the lives of our participants. To ensure that we provide the best possible care, we have identified some of the qualities that set Allcare staff apart and are essential in your role:

• Person-Centered Approach: We must always prioritise the goals, needs, and preferences of our participants, treating each person as an individual with unique strengths and abilities. This means thinking outside the box and working with participants on activities they may enjoy!

• Effective Communication: Communication is the key to a great working relationship with particpants. We should listen attentively to our participants and confirm our understanding. It is essential to be comfortable and experienced with different communication aids.

• Empathy and Compassion: Showing genuine care and understanding allows us to provide the support our participants need. Empathy is key in creating a safe and supportive environment.

• Flexibility and Adaptability: Being adaptable allows us to respond to the changing needs and preferences of our participants. Flexibility in scheduling and approaches ensures a personalised and tailored support experience.

• Reliability and Professionalism: Our participants rely on us as a crucial part of their daily lives. We need to be dependable, punctual, and professional in all our interactions. Clear communication regarding availability and expectations is vital. That means being on time.

Always ask yourself the question, how would I want my loved one cared for? As we continue to dedicate ourselves to being outstanding support workers, let us always remember the impact we have on the lives of our participants.

Our dedication and the values we uphold make Allcare a provider like no other.

Quick Tips for Writing Care Notes:

CAPTURE THE SHIFTELEVATE YOUR SHIFT NOTES

Shift notes, also known as care notes or progress notes, are a cornerstone of our service delivery at Allcare and are an NDIS requirement.

Shift notes are the compulsory end-of-shift documents created by you to report positive and negative incidents relating to participants, that occurred during a shift. They provide a crucial record of events during each shift that not only serve as proof of service delivery but also play a significant role in monitoring and improving the care we provide.

Why Are Care Notes So Important?

Here are some key reasons highlighting the importance of care notes:

1. Proof of Service Delivery: Shift notes serve as tangible evidence of the services provided to our participants. They help in ensuring that the agreed-upon care plan is being followed and give a transparent view of the care delivered.

2. Record of Client Progress: These notes enable the Allcare team to monitor the participant’s progress, track their achievements, and ensure that their needs are being met effectively. They are instrumental in identifying areas for improvement and providing personalised care.

3. Legal Document and Evidence: Shift notes hold legal significance and can be utilised as evidence in various situations. They are essential for demonstrating compliance, providing support in plan reassessment meetings for NDIS participants, and serving as documentation for insurance claims and adverse incident reports.

We regard the proper completion of shift notes as nonnegotiable even to the point of withholding payments for any shifts which we regard as incomplete or substandard and which are not upgraded upon our request to you to do so.

To ensure the effectiveness of care notes, here are some quick tips for writing them:

• Keep it Objective and Professional: Focus on facts& observations.

• Be Accurate and Specific: Provide precise details to paint a clear picture of the event/situation. Use active voice where you can.

By adhering to these best practices, we can enhance the quality and reliability of our shift notes, ultimately contributing to the overall excellence of our services at Allcare.

Reminder -

Did you know that a person with a disability has access to a Companion Card?

A companion card is accessed through Service NSW and ensures that their support worker/ carer/companion has free entry. This means that the participant pays for their entry, and with the companion card being shown, you, as the support worker, do not need to pay for entry, including public transport.

So, remember to plan activities with your participant that they can afford and with their companion card... if the person can’t afford to pay for themselves, then it is in the best interest of your participant to suggest and encourage alternate activities and then assist them with money management too.

Note: If your participant does not have a Companion Card, you can support them to obtain one by following this link:
