2022 U.S volume for Cucumbers by Region and Market Share













2022 total U.S. cucumber volume was 2.5B lbs. with a YoY volume decline of -3% following two consecutive years of volume increases 2021 at 20% and 2020 at 16%. The majority of this volume was from Mexico with a 69% market share and a YoY volume decrease of -5.07%. Canada ranked #2 in market share and had a healthy YoY increase of 19.51%.
The seven-year FOB rate of change shows moderate price fluctuations through 2020. 2021 & 2022 begin to show increased price fluctuations.
February - December 2022
Shows the 5 supplying regions with their volume and market share. Mexico supplies more than half the volume as can be seen in the volume chart shown on the prior page.
They supply the market from February through December with significant higher volumes than the other regions.
Mexico
Mexico began 2022 at a higher volume level than prior years but lost steam with a government order halting Mexico avocado shipment to the U.S. market in February, beyond that the volume trends closely mirrored the prior year. That government order could have resulted in the -5% loss as the prior year Mexico had a volume increase of 21%
Canada
Canada is showing impressive gains with cucumber volume particularly with the 16,432% volume increase between 2019 and 2020 with continuing YoY volume increases the two consecutive years after 2020. 2021 had a 42% increase while 2022 had a 19% increase.
Shows YoY volume fluctuations between 2019 and 2020 with a -23% decrease in volume followed with a 25% volume increase in 2022. Five-year volume trends shows the majority of volume is in April with another volume peak in November, although much smaller.
Michigan & Georgia – 2022 had the least volume among the four mentioned regions with YoY volume decreases.
Compares three year’s of FOB pricing for two timeframes from two different regions for conventional 24’s from two different regions, Michigan and Georgia. Michigan shows a higher FOB price at the beginning of July returning to 2021 levels and continuing to trend with 2021 through the end of September.
Georgia shows pricing starting at 2020 levels until early October when there is a steep price hike that continues all the way through November. This price hike is significantly higher than the prior two years.
