2022 U.S volume for Apples by Region and Market Share













During 2022 Washington state was the principal supplier of apples to the U.S. market with an 80.75% market share. Despite being the main supplier of apples, Washington state’s volume has dropped off over the last two years with a YoY decline of -3% between 2021 and 2022 and again between 2020 and 2021 of -11%.
This volume fluctuation is reflected in the seven-year rate of change with the FOB price.
2020 shows a dip in the FOB price of -20% while 2020 had a 7% volume increase over the prior year followed by an -11% decline in volume in 2021where the rate of change climbs to 10%

In 2022, Washington state was the primary supplier of apples to the U.S. market with an 81% market share, followed by New York with a 7% market share.
The remainder of the apple supplying regions’ volume is insignificant compared to Washington state’s volume.

In comparing FOB shipping for the same timeframe Jan – March 2021 – 2023 between Washington Gala and Red Delicious Extra Fancy size 113’s, 2023 shows the highest shipping price for both varieties. Among all three years, 2023 had the highest prices for both low - $22.95 and high - $29.00 prices than the prior two-year timeframes for Red Delicious.
The Gala variety also had the same situation with the 2023 lowest to highest shipping prices among the three timeframes Jan. – March 2021 – 2023. The lowest price was $27.95 and a high of $38.95 at the end of January 2023. 2021 FOB shipping had the most price fluctuations among the three timeframes.
In comparing Gala and Red Delicious apple variety FOB shipping from New York, size 21/2 min for Jan. – March 2021 – 2023, both varieties show a similar price pattern in 2023 with the highest price among the three timeframes of $26.00 for the Red Delicious and $28.00 for the Gala, albeit without any price fluctuations. The price trend line remained stable throughout this timeframe. 2022 started out below the $28.00 mark, surpassing this price to $28.50 by the second week of February. 2021 had the lowest prices among the three timeframes.
