Enjoying life to the max at Furlong Close

Agincare Enable Area Manager Pete Bates said: “The people who draw on our services are now living far more independently, and are all playing active roles within the community which is so rewarding to see.”

The improvement has been recognised by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors who found the service ‘Good’ in both the ‘Safe’ and ‘Well-led’ categories in a visit this Spring. Their report featured many positive comments from people living at Furlong Close, their relatives, and visiting professionals that work with the Agincare team.

Nigel, who lives at Furlong Close, said:

WHAT IS AGINCARE ENABLE?

Furlong Close’s ethos is founded on personalised care and choice, supporting each person’s independence to enjoy a rich and rewarding life both in the community and further afield.

That includes choosing and being supported to go on trips out and holidays, holding jobs, volunteering, attending social clubs, and enjoying hobbies and activities like horse-riding or church bell ringing.

Those at Furlong Close also take part in LIFE (Lasting Independence For Everyone) sessions, based on activities they would like to learn, places they would like to go and challenges they would like to overcome.

Gateway to Care programme is a massive success for Training Now

Agincare’s training partner Training Now, alongside its international recruitment arm Agincare International, has successfully launched their Gateway to Care programme.

Gateway to Care is a four-week learning programme to prepare nurses for a career as Senior Healthcare Assistants in the UK, developed and overseen by Training Now and delivered by its partner T-Care in India.

The Gateway to Care programme has so far welcomed three cohorts of Senior Healthcare Assistants that have gone on to find rewarding employment through Agincare International.

Of all the care team members who have joined Agincare through the Gateway to Care scheme, 95% are still in current employment with Agincare. An incredible achievement for Training Now and Agincare when compared to the UK health and social care average of 31%.

Agincare is now working on a similar 12-week programme with partner providers in Sri Lanka.

Training Now specialises in practical social care, education and business apprenticeships nationwide. It also delivers bespoke short courses and professional qualifications. Training Now boasts a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and is also a Skills for Care endorsed provider.

Agincare took part in National Apprenticeship Week, recognising the hardworking efforts and achievements of apprentices across its care services. One of the featured apprentices was Lesley Pitcher, (pictured above) a Senior Care Assistant at the Canter’s Meadow Court extra care service, who benefitted from undertaking a Lead Adult Care Worker (Level 3) apprenticeship with Training Now, which has led to her promotion to Field Care Supervisor.
