3:10 TO TUXEDO

"Shoot the Boot!" A great time was had by all at the Club's 3:10 to Tuxedo party on Saturday, October 22nd. After "shooting the boot" at the Club's entrance members walked along the railroad tracks to the "Wild West Tuxedo Saloon" where they sipped on the “Golden Nugget” a mix of bourbon, honey, peach puree, lime juice, ginger beer & a little gold glitter! Axe throwing and flaming cowboy cauldrons on the back lawn set the stage for cocktail hour, and a dinner featuring Western favorites like the Saloon Cowboy Ribeye followed, Dancing and rides on the mechanical bull topped off this incredible night certainly one for the books!

HOLIDAY RECIPE: SLICE AND BAKE CHEDDAR CRACKERS

Adapted from a recipe originally published in Cook's Illustrated Magazine

Ingredients

1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika

8 tablespoons very cold unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces

3 tablespoons water

Directions

1 To make the dough mix cheddar, flour, cornstarch, salt, cayenne, and paprika in a food processor until combined, about 30 seconds Scatter cold butter pieces over the mixture and pulse until the mixture resembles wet sand, about 20 seconds. Add water and mix until the mixture forms a ball of dough, about 10 seconds. Do not overmix. Transfer dough to counter and divide in half

Using your hands, roll each half of dough into a 10 inch log, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 2 days) At this point the dough can be frozen for up to 1 month, just make sure to thaw it completely before slicing and baking

2 Heat oven to 350°F Line two baking sheets with parchment paper Unwrap the dough logs and slice into ¼ inch thick crackers Place crackers on prepared sheets, spaced 1/2 inch apart.

3. Bake crackers until light golden around the edges, 22 to 26 minutes, switching and rotating baking sheets halfway through baking Let crackers cool completely on sheets before serving The crackers are best served the same day they are made

Makes approximately 80 crackers.

COCKTAILS
PERFECT WITH

HOLIDAY COCKTAIL:

THE TUXEDO OLD FASHIONED

According to our Head Mixologist Brian Weber, this is perhaps our most requested cocktail recipe

A traditional Old Fashioned is whiskey, bitters and sugar, but at the Club we swap the sugar for richer flavored maple syrup. Pure maple syrup is essential in this recipe imitation maple syrup (like Log Cabin) will ruin this cocktail

Ingredients:

2 oz Maker’s Mark 46 Bourbon

¼ oz Pure Maple Syrup

2 Dashes Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters

1 Dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

1 Orange Twist

Optional: Luxardo Cherries

Method:

In an old fashioned glass add bitters, syrup and bourbon. Add ice to fill the glass. Stir to combine and chill.

With a vegetable peeler take a “shaving” off the orange peel to create a twist With the skin side facing the assembled cocktail fold the orange peel like a taco to express the oils over the drink. Add the orange peel to drink as garnish Add cherries as additional garish, if desired

HOLIDAY COCKTAIL: OLD FASHIONED EGG NOG

e have a confession to make here at the Club we don’t make ur egg nog from scratch, we buy Hood brand it's delicious! ou should be able to find it where you buy groceries

or those of our members who remember Bartender Ron, the cipe below is his formulation. Don't skip the fresh nutmeg it uly makes the cocktail

oz Hood Brand Egg Nog

oz Mt Gay Rum

oz Cognac esh nutmeg, grated

dd all ingredients to a short glass. Stir to combine. Grate fresh utmeg over top using a microplane grater.

END OF SEASON UPDATE

As the winter weather approaches, we wrap up another active season of golf Since opening our renovated golf course in late May, rounds are up more than 12% compared to the same time frame last year. With the turn of the new year just over a month away, the planning stages for next season have already begun. The finalized golf calendar will be forwarded along over the next several weeks to help you plan ahead

While our tournament season has come to a close (except for Bloodies & Bagels!) the golf course is still open and we hope to see you often before the snow begins to fall For those traveling South in the coming days, please travel safely

To all of you, enjoy the upcoming holiday season with your family and friends Thank you for another great season!

TOURNAMENT NEWS

In October, the men ’ s tournament season closed with two “majors” the Fall Classic Member Member and the Vogel Cup Member Guest In the Fall Classic, Kirk Kashevaroff & Howard Mertz won for the second time in a six year span and “Kash” claimed his fifth title (with four different partners!). Jasjit Singh & guest Vineet Sikka were victorious in the season ’ s final Member Guest and Jasjit Singh is likely the only player to win the coveted Vogel Cup as a member and as a guest, which he did so just a few years ago

In the final women ’ s “silver” event, the Flaming Foliage, Karen Cariddi made a short putt on the last hole to win by one point over defending champion Joette Fullerton for her first victory in this event.

And Mary Fuerst accomplished an eight year long goal in winning the 9 Hole Women’s Club Championship by defeating defending champion Doreen Rose

WINTER PREPARATIONS

As the 2022 golf season comes to a close, winter preparations are ramping up in the realm of Grounds Maintenance In addition to routine leaf cleanup and fescue mowing, all playing surfaces have been core aerified, select fairways de thatched and the irrigation system has been blown out.

In the upcoming weeks, in house projects will be continuing, but our primary objective will be to ensure the golf course is ready for the winter months.

As the sod freezes in December, our putting greens will be closed and temporary pin locations will be cut into approach areas

Lastly, our newly purchased putting green covers will be installed to protect our greens from the harshness of winter

Happy Holidays from the Grounds Maintenance Department and stay tuned for another update in the new year!

HADDEN TOMES 2022

The carriages and holsters on the 3:10 to Tuxedo were fully loaded with passengers from near and far for Hadden Tomes 2022 Cowboy Chisholm kicked off a jam packed schedule of tennis on Friday, complete with unique orange and yellow balls designed to give everyone vertigo even before the bourbon was opened Off the court, Rich Mueller once again delighted the evening crowd with his musical talents accompanied on the mic by some of his favorite saloon girls On the court, duels were battled (with racquets and witty barbs only), and excellent play continued throughout the weekend

On Saturday evening, over 120 people flocked to the Wild West Saloon (previously known as The Tuxedo Club), where they indulged in axe throwing, whiskey tasting, and boot scootin' until the early hours The mechanical bull tempted those in high spirits (of which there were many), and we hear that large ransom sums were being demanded on Sunday morning to destroy damning video footage of spectacular rides and falls.

Sunday saw the top 12 most successful players in the round robin progress to three finals It was wonderful to see some new faces in the mix this year and some truly exciting tennis. To the victors go the spoils, and this year the Flight III gold went to Megan Hayes (Tux) and Brittany Wakim (Phil), who defeated Scott Ulrey and Jeff Greenbaum (Tux). The Flight II trophy went to the young upstarts Hazel Christensen and Calliope Yannuzzi (Tux), who got the better of Dan Rifkin and Paul Van Nieuwerburgh (Tux) Flight I saw Doug Ewing and Steve Klepper (Tux) race to a first set win against Rich Mueller and Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh (Tux) However the underdogs fought back to level at 5 all, 40 all in the second set The crowd was hoping to see more great tennis with a decider set; however Ewing and Klepper were too strong and eeked out a victory 6 5 to claim the title

Thank you to all for such a fantastic event in particular, The Tuxedo Club staff led by Randy St John, Dan Britts, Maura Lennon, Lexi Heuer, Justine DeVito, Chef Frederick and Ulysses Rivera for embracing this year's theme so wonderfully and ensuring Saturday night went off without a hitch (or a wayward axe) Special thanks to Tim Chisholm, Dawson Chisholm, and Adrian Kemp for patiently marking and keeping the tennis on schedule

Until next year
