CLUBHOUSE

A MESSAGE FROM THE CLUBHOUSE By Assistant General Manager Dan Britts, CCM & Clubhouse Manager Alexia Heuer As the weather turns cooler, the warmth of our crackling fireplaces paired with Chef Arnold’s seasonal menu changes - brings a hearty sense of home to the Main Club dining experience. We hope you will join us for dining during this cozy season. Looking back, our fall event calendar showcased our incredible Club spirit, especially at the 4th Annual 1886 Regatta. Despite a few early weather challenges, the day turned out beautifully, with nearly 200 members and guests gathering lakeside to cheer on the rowers. Several U.S. National and Olympic team athletes showcased remarkable skill, sportsmanship, and perseverance through choppy waters. Congratulations to Paige Wheeler and Sam Melvin, this year’s 1886 Regatta Champions. Competition and camaraderie continued with our annual Hadden Tomes Tournament (‘Were you not entertained?’), culminating in the Saturday Night Dinner Dance - a celebration of epic proportions fit for Greek gods and Roman emperors alike. The Clubhouse transformed into a grand Colosseum worthy of Julius Caesar. We shifted gears the following week turning the Main Clubhouse into a spooky haunted haven for our Halloween celebration. Festivities included pumpkin carving and decorating, potion-making, and crafts for all ages. The costume creativity on display may have reached new heights - members truly outdid themselves.

As the weekend winds down, join us at the Main Clubhouse for a festive brunch featuring seasonal favorites, football, and plenty of holiday cheer for the entire family. CLUBHOUSE

A WONDERFUL SEASON AT THE BOATHOUSE By Boatmaster Ted Thiessen As the sun sets on another great season at the Boathouse, I want to share what an honor it has been to enjoy the Boathouse and Lake with so many of you.. Thank you for your support. FUN FACTS FROM THE BOATHOUSE THIS SEASON: Members with boats docked at the Boathouse navigated the waters nearly 500 times this year. The Club party boats were used by over 250 different members for a total of over 475 hours of good times on the water. Two guests that have been members for over 14 years took a pontoon boat out for the first time this year. They will be regulars. The fishing skiff delivered over 120 hours of memorable fishing fun. Four individual families took the Club boats out fishing with three generations represented. These memories will last a lifetime. Enjoy the Tuxedo winter wonderland and I will see you in the Spring for another unforgettable season.

TUXEDO RECIPE

WILD MUSHROOM RISOTTO By Arnold Kruck, Executive Chef

This is a fairly simple recipe for a delicious comfort food that can act as an appetizer, entrée or side dish. Look for nice wild mushrooms, they should be available this time of year in gourmet produce departments. Ingredients: 6 1/2 cups chicken stock, or 5 cups low-sodium chicken broth and 1 1/2 cups water 2 oz dry porcini mushrooms 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter 1/4 lb fresh wild mushrooms such as oysters, shiitakes, chanterelles, or hedgehogs, trimmed and chopped 1/3 cup finely chopped shallots (about 2) 1 1/2 cups carnaroli rice (10 oz) 1/2 to 1 teaspoon white truffle oil 1 1/2 oz finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese (3/4 cup) 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives

TUXEDO RECIPE

CONTINUED

Preparation: Bring stock to a simmer in a 4-quart pot, add dry porcini mushrooms and keep at a bare simmer, covered. Heat oil with 1 tablespoon butter in a 4- to 5-quart heavy saucepan over moderately high heat until foam subsides, then sauté mushrooms, stirring occasionally, until browned and any liquid they give off is evaporated, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then transfer to a bowl. Cook shallots in 2 tablespoons butter in the same saucepan over moderate heat, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes. Add rice and cook, stirring, until all rice is coated, about 2 minutes. Remove porcini mushrooms from stock. Chop and reserve. Ladle in 1 cup of simmering stock and cook at a strong simmer, stirring, until absorbed. Continue simmering and adding stock, about 1/2 cup at a time, stirring very frequently and letting each addition be absorbed before adding the next, until rice is just tender and creamy-looking, about 20 minutes. Add chopped porcini mushrooms. (Save leftover stock for thinning.)

Remove from heat and stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter, sautéed mushrooms, truffle oil to taste, cheese, chives, and salt and pepper to taste. If desired, thin the risotto with some of the leftover stock. Finish with additional cheese if desired.

RACQUETS

2025 HADDEN TOMES By Tim Chisholm, Director of Racquets Hadden Tomes, one of the staples of the Court Tennis calendar, was held October 17 th - 19 th at The Tuxedo Club - with another oversubscribed contingent of court tennis players! Historically, The Tuxedo Club’s themed party during this event is a rousing success; and 2025 was no exception. Congratulations to Randy St. John and his staff for their excellence at the party and throughout the weekend. After 40 Handicapped doubles matches, the 12 finalists were determined and then flighted based on their handicaps. In addition to all the Court Tennis, Hadden Tomes also included a full day of Padel matches on Tuxedo’s beautiful Padel courts in unseasonably warm weather under clear blue skies. Congratulations to all the participants in both racquet sports; in particular to the Champions and Finalists listed below. Flight 1 Champions – Paul Nieuwerburgh & Michael Haberkorn Finalists – Amy Gold & Jeremy Kidde Flight 2 Champions – Jonathan Pomeranz & Matthew Ezersky Finalists – Laura Veldkamp & Michael Gorzynski Flight 3 Champions – Serena Mueller & Grace Ormond Finalists – Dianne Christensen & David McFadden

GOLF UPDATE By Chris Muldoon, Director of Golf As the winter weather approaches, we wrap up another active season of golf. Rounds are up nearly 10% year-to-date through October compared to last season, which marks the highest round total within the past 15 years. With the turn of the new year just over a month away, the planning stages for next season have already begun. The finalized Golf Calendar will be forwarded along over the next several weeks to help you plan ahead. The tournament season wrapped up (except for Bloodies & Bagels!) in midOctober. After the Ladies’ 9-Hole & 18-Hole Closing Day tournaments, the two groups joined forces again to celebrate the season’s winners at the Year-End Dinner & Awards at the Main Clubhouse. The men’s tournament season closed with our final “major” – the Fall Classic Member-Member. Sean & Brendon McGuire outlasted three other teams down the stretch of the Flight Champions Shoot-Out to win the Fall Classic. CONGRATULATIONS CORINNA By Chris Muldoon, Director of Golf

It has been quite a year for Golf Shop Manager Corinna Limbocker who qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship after earning co-medalist honors with an even par qualifying round at Montammy Golf Club on September 10th. The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship originated in 1987 because of a need to provide a national competitive arena for amateurs age 25 and older. Corinna returned to her home course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s (MPCC) Dunes course in Pebble Beach, California, where the Championship was hosted. She took her first swings at MPCC as a twoyear-old, where her family has long been members. She won the 2005 California Junior Girls State Championship on the Dunes Course, set the women’s course record on the Shore Course with a 7-under 66 and was married at the club in 2013. A former University of Arkansas Razorback, she finished runner-up at the 2010 California Women’s Amateur. This was her third USGA Championship. “Ever since they announced that the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am was going to be at Monterey Peninsula, it’s been this goal of mine to get there,” says Limbocker. “I hit my first shots at the range at Monterey Peninsula. I learned how to play golf there, my dad taught me the game there. It’s been something truly special that I was looking forward to.” After 36 holes of stroke play, the Championship transitioned to match play with a cut to the low 64 qualifiers. After a disappointing score of 81 (+9) in her opening round, she rebounded with an impressive score of 71 (-1) to qualify for match play, the first of many goals in the tournament. While she didn’t advance past the opening round of match play, the tournament served as a special perfect full circle moment for Corinna – best told in the recent Met Golfer article Coming Full Circle by Juliana Bravo and in her own words when she was “…Mic’d Up at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur”.

CONGRATULATIONS CORINNA CONT’D Corinna’s year didn’t end in Pebble Beach. In early August, the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) announced its first six team members to be invited to the 18th Carey Cup at Portmarnock Golf Club in Dublin, Ireland. Corinna was selected to represent the MGA in her first international team event. A spot on this prestigious team is one of the most sought-after accomplishments for Met Area competitors. The Carey Cup – which originated as the Metedeconk International Challenge Cup – was first played in 1990. Spearheaded by Governor Hugh L. Carey, who envisioned the matches as an opportunity to foster sportsmanship and goodwill between the countries, the Walker Cup-style competition featuring Four-Ball, Foursomes, and Singles Matches have been played biennially in his honor with a spirit of camaraderie and competition. In the afternoon Four-Ball matches of day one, Corinna teamed with another international team rookie Rayee Feng of Fiddler’s Elbow for a ‘3 & 2’ victory to continue the women’s duos winning ways from the morning matches. On the final day, wins in seven of 12 singles matches secured the 12.5 – 9.5 victory for the MGA over Golf Ireland.
