By Beatrice Santos Dear ICC Members, As we welcome the New Year, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for making ICC such a special place. Because of you, our new and prospective members feel welcome and at home from the moment they arrive. The sense of community we share is what sets ICC apart and distinguishes it from other country clubs in the DMV.

Looking ahead to the coming months, it is exciting to see the continued interest in our Club across all membership categories. Your enthusiasm, engagement, and willingness to share ICC with friends and family continue to be the driving force behind our growth and success.

GOLF From the Golf Shop

By Tom Melideo Happy New Year! We hope your holiday season was filled with joy and laughter. As we begin the promising journey of 2026, the Golf Shop team is excited to share important updates and information for the upcoming season at International Country Club.

Off-Season Club Repair

$75. This is a great opportunity to enjoy golf with friends and family during the winter season.

Monday Golf Operations Please note that during December, January, and February, the Golf Course, Golf Shop, Bag Room, and Clubhouse will be closed on Mondays. Please plan accordingly if you need access to your golf bag.

The winter months are a great time to take care of off-season club repairs. If you are considering regripping your clubs for the 2026 golf season, now is the perfect opportunity. Simply reach out to the Golf Shop, and we will ensure your equipment is in top condition.

Winter Guest Rates Take advantage of our winter guest rate from December 1st through February 28th. Guests may play for a special rate of

Enjoy the excitement of our TrackMan Simulator this winter.

Reservations can be made through the app or the club website, similar to booking a tee time. Members receive one complimentary hour per week, with a $30 guest fee. This is a great way to gather fellow members for a fun two-hour session.

2026 Golf Calendar & Member-Guest Events We are currently finalizing the 2026 Golf Calendar, which will be completed by early February. Please mark your calendars for the Men’s Annual Member-Guest on June 11th, 12th, and 13th. The Women’s Member-Guest will be played on June 15th and 16th. Additional details regarding sign-ups, timing, and formats will be shared soon.

Golf Course Update

Dear Member: The arctic temperatures have truly slowed down the activity on the golf course. We are moving in to some warmer temperatures now however, so I am sure golfers will return en mass!

If you have been here a few years then you know that during the heart of the winter we cover some of our Par 3 tees with tarps. This membership is very active all winter and if we keep the tees open there would be literally no grass on them by the time spring rolls around. The tarps not only keep golfers from using the tee but they also help to germinate grass seed. While nothing will germinate when it is this cold, as soon as the temps return to “normal” for the winter, we will be able to germinate divots under the tarps.

Please keep in mind that when temperatures get this low this often, the bunkers freeze. We do our best to get out there in the afternoon to rake them but there will be many days when it is simply not possible. We shall see where this winter takes us, most long range forecasts are calling for a colder than normal winter. We will do our best to get you out on the course but on days like today we will remain closed.

We had hoped to have finished sodding #16 by now but the winter weather blast prevented us from getting any more sod.

We have it on order and are hopeful that by the time you get this article we will have buttoned up all of our bare spots.

Each tee that is tarped will now have a hitting mat for you to use. Please use just the mats to tee off from – we need everyone’s cooperation to protect the golf course. This also pertains to the driving range tee as well. We ask that you NEVER hit any club off of the grass when we are utilizing the mats. That means no drivers as well.

If you have played recently than you have probably noticed the dark compost that we have spread in the rough around many of our greens. Composting provides many beneficial things to the turf including nutrients, water holding capacity and compaction reduction.

We like to use it in high traffic areas that suffer from wear and tear. Another perk is that the dark color absorbs heat which then promotes growth even during the cold winter. This also enables seedlings to establish themselves faster than if we had not spread compost over them at all. We understand that it can stick to your shoes which then tracks on to the greens and tees – and possibly your carpet if you are not careful! Please try to just wipe your feet off in some tall grass before entering the green if you can.

Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon The ICC Lady 18ers wrapped up the 2025 golf season on December 9th with our Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. The luncheon was well attended with everyone looking wonderfully dressed for the holidays.

Bea Pham started off the meeting with a recap of the 18ers season. Sally Nadanyi gave us a detailed treasurer’s report.

ARFAX Team Captain Bette Rutherford followed with a recap of the ARFAX team season and a look forward to 2026.

WDCGA Team Captain, Dottie Bennett talked about the similarities between ARFAX and WDCGA and praised both groups for their high standards of team competitiveness and good sportsmanship.

After 40 years of volunteer service as the WDCGA team captain and rep, Dottie announced that she is turning over that responsibility to Cindy Cox. We thank Dottie for her strong leadership and selfless giving of time and energy. (continued on page 9)

Bea talked about the success of the newly formed ICC Career Women’s League. It was a popular Sunday league for many of our players and will continue in 2026.

ICC Lady Niners

By Clare Kersten Happy New Year to everyone at ICC! The Niners celebrated our Holiday Luncheon in high spirits on December 9th with a cozy atmosphere and delicious ICC fare. The traditional gift exchange lost none of its thrill with the new Lightning Round format!

We had our Season Wrap-Up, with recognition awards for so many players. Lots of achievements and thanks, along with sweeps! Patti Freeman and Barb Cushman, our fabulous leaders and Co-Chairs, hosted the event with great cheer, and announced that they will be back next year with a long list of social and golf events, some new, some tried-and-true, all fun! Reminder: Sweeps awarded at the end of the season are extended through the end of March.

and others were unable to attend. Best wishes for a Happy New Year – take care and see you soon!

What’s Next?

NINERS SIM LEAGUE Cold weather moves us indoors, and this year’s Ladies SIM League filled up fast! A wait list has formed, and teams should be brushing up on their gaming skills, as we’ll start in January and go through March. (continued on page 12)

The Pro Shop has kindly blocked-off the Sim Room on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 –10:00 a.m. for the Lady Niners starting the third week of January.

Balmy days are fewer in January and February, but we can count on many beautiful golf days here at ICC. The course is so well-maintained and beautiful year-round that come April, you will regret not having spent more days out there with an extra layer or two. Keep an eye on the forecast and sign up with your Niner buddies for a round!

The ICC Practice Facilities are open every day EXCEPT MONDAYS in January and February. Make plans to practice putting, short game or hitting on the range when you are missing your clubs, have an hour or two to yourself, or looking to get outside without feeling guilty about not taking the dog for a walk.

Think about treating yourself and your game to lessons with one of ICC’s awesome Pros, and return in April with sharper skills and lower scores!

Keeping fit and round-ready might also involve getting to the Fitness Center to work on cardio, stamina, strength and flexibility, and maybe even mindfulness with yoga. All

RACQUETS Reminder to Cancel Indoor Court Reservations

Highlights • Reservation Time Limits

During the winter season, we are limited to four courts.

Please remember to cancel your court time if you are not going to use it. This allows other members to use the court for tennis or pickleball. Empty courts are a frustration to all members. Uncancelled reservations will be charged after 15 minutes of a no-show.

Reservation Time Limits To help make sure that everyone has court time, we have limited reservations to one hour for singles, and an hour and a half for doubles. If the court happens to be empty at the end of your reservation, you may ask the desk to extend your time for another half hour.

During the indoor season, we want to remind the players of the need to wear proper non-marking court shoes. Examples of shoes that tend to mark the courts are running shoes and cross-trainers. If you do notice your shoes leaving black or white marks, please vacate the court and change your shoes.

If there are questions about acceptable shoes, the tennis staff can help you. Non-marking shoes are sold in the shop.

This group emphasizes footwork, stroke production, scoring, and preparation for high school competitive tennis.

High Performance Tournament Group Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

This group is designed for intermediate to high-intermediate, and advanced players and emphasizes high level stroke production, court strategy, mental toughness, and match play.

It’s geared towards those preparing for High School/College competitions and tournaments. Evaluation is required to determine appropriateness for class.
