From the General Manager

We have a lot going on at the Club right now. Not only do we have a busy holiday season right around the corner, but we also have a couple of renovation projects that are underway. The Wakefield Patio renovation is moving right along, and we are looking forward to our grand opening in April. The Grounds Maintenance/Cart Barn renovation began the demo phase of the project, and we are hoping for a mild Winter to help us push through this project as quickly as possible.

We continue to see a surge in Club Events attendance as well as some of our more popular Club Events during the month of December, our Santa Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, December 7th (and is already sold out), our Christmas Cookie & Gingerbread Decorating Event on December 14th, our Golf Shop Holiday Event on Saturday, December 13th and of course who can forget our everpopular New Year’s Eve festivities.

Thanks to those who chose to vote in our electronic annual meeting –Sean Kelly was elected as President, Scott Siegel was elected as Vice President, and Jason Flemmons, Brian Pettis, and Rocky Thurston were elected as At-Large Governors. With the welcoming of the incoming Board members, we must also give thanks to our outgoing Board members- Kerem Demirci and Dan Lemieux for their Board service. Many thanks to Jeff Klein who has served as our Board President for the past two years as well as his prior Board service. I would like to thank them for their service, and I look forward to working with our new Board members in the near future.

Please remember that the main Clubhouse is closed the first couple

of weeks of January – this closing will incorporate some substantial maintenance related capital improvements, general deep cleaning and during this time many members of our staff will take vacation. We will be closed from Thursday, January 1st through Tuesday, January 13th, and plan to reopen for service on Wednesday, January 14th.

See you around the Club and have a great holiday season!

Golf Course Update

Dear Member:

The end of the year is fast approaching but the maintenance staff has no shortage of projects at the moment. I am writing this from my new, temporary office in the pool lobby since construction has officially begun on our new shop – or really, I should say demolition has begun!

I am sure you have noticed that with construction on the Wakefield patio also in full gear that the road to the chipping green as well as the cart path that goes around 9 green and runs to 10 tee is quite congested. Please be careful in these areas. The construction companies are doing their best to stay out of the way but we need everyone to pay attention. If using the chipping green, please pull your cart all the way off the road and on to the grass by the bunker. This will prevent the road from getting blocked for truck traffic and keep everyone safe.

Apart from transitioning to our temporary facilities, these are some of the projects we are currently working on

out on the course:

• Grading, draining and sodding 16 fairway

• Edging bunkers

• Adding sand to bunkers and sodding edges

• Spreading compost in high traffic areas and seeded spots in rough

• Annual cutting of tall grasses and plants around ponds

• Removing summer annual flowers

• Planting bulbs on 7 tee bank

While we have not started yet we will eventually remove quite a few dead and dying trees. This summer was particularly rough on trees across the mid-atlantic and we were not spared. The majority of these are pines but we did lose a few large oaks as well.

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and I hope to see you out on the course!

A Magical Visitor is Arriving at ICC!

Hello ICC families,

Something very special is splashing into the Club this holiday season and we could not be more excited. Please join us in welcoming Gator Gigglepants, our part-elf, partgator holiday helper who is full of cheer, giggles, and just a pinch of mischief.

Starting December 1st, Gator Gigglepants will be exploring every corner of International Country Club. You might spot him tiptoeing across the golf course, sneaking around the racquet courts, or peeking out from the Clubhouse and Pro Shop. Every morning, he will find a new hiding spot. Our youngest Gators will love the surprise of discovering where he lands. Parents can check each day for special hints about where Gator Gigglepants might be hiding on Facebook.

Gator Gigglepants is here to bring sparkle, laughter, and holiday magic to every member of the family. Families are invited to join the fun and look for him each day in December. Every day with Gator is brighter, sillier, and full of holiday joy.

We cannot wait for you to meet him and share in all the festive cheer he brings to the Club.

See you around the Club, Gator Gigglepants

P.S. Keep your eyes open and your giggles ready because you never know where I might pop up next...

Retired Men’s Golf Team

The 2025 Northern Virginia Retired Men’s Golf Association season has come to an end. We finished with 10 wins, 12 losses, and 2 ties. Unfortunately, this was not good enough to make the playoffs. For the first time, the Fort Belvoir squad won the NVRMGA championship. Read below for some fun facts on the league’s history and ICC’s success (or lack thereof) over the years.

NVRMGA Membership History

The original league included 6 teams: Chantilly, CC of Fairfax, ICC, River Bend, Springfield, and Woodlawn (which became Mount Vernon). Over the years, Army Navy Arlington and Fairfax, Belle Haven, Westwood, and others joined in. The latest club to join is the Regency Country Club, which entered in 2022. Only one club – Cedar Crest, later called Ridgeview and Fairfax National – has ever left the league. The course closed in 2010.

NVRMGA Championship History

With 6 championships, ICC has won the third most since the league began. Our latest occurred in 2013 (so we’re due!).

Springfield leads the list with 13 wins, and Cedar Crest/ Ridgeview/Fairfax National follows with 10.

Next Season

League play begins at the beginning of April 2026. Half of the teams play 24 matches and the others play 20. Our team remains in the “East” division with 3 other teams – Fort Belvoir, Belle Haven, and Army Navy Arlington – playing 24 matches. We will play all teams except Evergreen, Belmont, and CC of Fairfax in 2026.

New Team Members

Our squad has benefitted greatly from the performance of new players who joined the team in the past 2 years. One must be at least 50 years old and can be working or retired. We ask current team members to reach out and query others who might be interested in joining the team. If so, please let Team President Jim Judkins (jimjudkins99@gmail.com) or me (rlevin4@gmail.com) know.

Outdoor Courts Still Open

The outdoor courts will be open until we shut off the water due to freezing temperatures. For our new members or anyone who hasn’t played in a while, rates for the indoor courts are $20 an hour year-round. Singles reservations will be limited to one hour during the indoor season. Doubles reservations may book an hour and a half.

The tennis ball machine and pickleball machine are also available for $25 an hour. You can make a reservation seven days in advance. The Racquets Pro Shop opens every day at 8:00 a.m. We close at 8:00 p.m. on weekends and at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays (Monday through Friday.)

Reminder to Cancel Indoor Court Reservations

As we move indoors, the court space is limited. Please remember to cancel your court time if you are not going to use it. This allows another member to use one of our four indoor courts for tennis or pickleball. Unused court times will be charged if the reservation is not cancelled ahead of time. Please remember, your unused reservation prevents another member from using the space.

Non-Marking Shoe Rule

With the start of the indoor season, we want to remind the players of the need to wear proper non-marking tennis shoes. If there are questions about acceptable shoes, the tennis staff at the tennis shop can help you. Non-marking shoes are sold in the shop.
