Report It Against Fraud and Abuse

We rely on our healthcare providers to give us quality care and to guide us in making good decisions about our health—and the majority of them do. But in any large industry, there are some providers who may try to take advantage of the system. The National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) estimates that the financial losses due to healthcare fraud are in the billions of dollars each year.You can be an advocate and help your Benefit Fund guard against fraud.

Here’s how: • Read your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements carefully. When you receive EOB statements in the mail (or use “My Account” to review your claims online), make sure you received the care that’s been billed.

• Safeguard your Health Benefits ID card and benefit information.

• Report suspected fraud. If you notice anything unusual or incorrect on your EOB statements or when you access “My Account,” such as charges for services you did not receive, or if you suspect a provider is using the Fund’s benefits fraudulently, please email our tipline at BenefitFraud@1199Funds.org or call our Fraud and Abuse Hotline at (646) 473-6148.

Your Health Benefits ID cards are for use by you and your eligible dependents only. Keep them secure so that no one else can use your cards to obtain healthcare services. If you prefer, you can report suspected fraud anonymously. Together, we can preserve valuable healthcare dollars and protect all of our members’ benefits.
