The walk may be challenging for smaller children. The ground near the cherry trees can be muddy. *Please note: because the monkeys are wild, they may not always be present in the park.
The summer scene at Nagano’s Jigokudani Monkey Park is quite different from the winter months. The trees are full of green leaves that shade the hot sun, and vegetation covers most of the ground. This ideal environment brings the monkeys closer to the park and gives them places to rest and hide. You’ll also find wild berries, flowers, and insects for them to eat. Summer is an important time when many of the babies born in early spring begin to appear — both to other monkeys and to visitors. During this season, you can see mothers with their babies clinging tightly to them, sunbathing, eating grass, and foraging in the open. It’s especially fascinating to watch how carefully the mothers observe their young when they wander away. After visiting the monkey park, we’ll stop by Shinshu Fruits Land for a cherry picking experience, including 30 minutes of all-you-can-eat cherries.
