Shuki Taisai, or the Grand Autumn Festival, is held annually on October 17. The highlight of the event is a magnificent procession of a thousand warriors, reenacting the solemn transfer of Tokugawa Ieyasu’s remains from Kuno-zan Shrine to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, in accordance with his final wishes.
