Orlando, Florida. For the third time, the Dominican Republic offers a Roadshow, in the city of Orlando, Florida where more than 350 tour operators, travel agents and representatives of the main airlines gathered to learn about the tourist wonders of the Caribbean country.
During the event, the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, presented the tourist offer of the country highlighting the paradisiacal beaches, the rich culture and the hospitality of its people. In his speech, Collado seized the opportunity to share statistics regarding the initiatives underway in the tourism industry, emphasizing the significant rise in tourist numbers and flights since the pandemic. He also noted the introduction of new daily service from Southwest Airlines from MCO to PUJ, along with the existing nonstop flights provided by JetBlue, Spirit, and Frontier, making the destination more accessible for visitors from Central Florida.
The United States is the main source of tourists of the Dominican Republic and Orlando represents the third lar-
gest city and the sixth in the world. In 2023, 215 thousand tourists were received from the Orlando airport, representing 19% of the total tourists received from the United States. As of September 2024, this percentage rises to 22%. This is why it is very important for the country to strengthen commercial ties, business and investment opportunities with this city.
"We continue working with the firm commitment of promoting tourism in the Dominican Republic with the objective of continuing to create jobs, generating foreign currency and strengthening the economy of our country. From Orlando Airport, as of September we have already received 197 thousand tourists by air, with a projection of 10% growth for 2024. Figures that fill us with pride and motivate us to continue positioning the Dominican Republic as a preferred destination in the international market¨, words expressed by Minister Collado during the night.
This space also gave the opportunity to explain the Do Travel Rewards program, a loyalty program in the country whose main objective is to recognize
the efforts of travel agents from around the world in promoting the Dominican destination, providing them with firsthand information and strengthening the relationship with such important members of the industry. Likewise, the program works as a connection channel for the hotel sector with the more than 18,0000 agents around the world enrolled in the program and offers the ideal platform to create value offers for travelers visiting the Dominican Republic.
This event is part of the Ministry of Tourism's strategy to strengthen the promotion of the country in the international market and attract more visitors, contributing to the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.

The event will take place until November 17 at the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte Santo Domingo.
The twenty-sixth Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2024) opened its doors this Thursday, in an edition dedicated to the writer Mateo Morrison, 2010 National Literature Prize, and which has Washington Heights as a guest community.
The opening ceremony, held in the Carlos Piantini room of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, was attended by the Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, and Andrés Bautista García, administrative minister of the Presidency.
He was also accompanied by the general director of Books and Reading, Ángela Hernández; the director of the Book Fairs, Joan Ferrer; the writer honored in this edition, Mateo Morrison; Government officials, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country and national and international writers.
Minister Germán stated that for the Dominican Government and its management, this fair is “the most revolutionary, most democratic and most popular event that we present to our public; the best of the world of thought, the publishing world and the book industry.”
The official added that, being organized by the Ministry of Culture, this event is an open and
plural fair that welcomes all current currents of thought without any bias, celebrating freedom of ideas, publication, participation and expression.
The ceremony began with the interpretation of the national anthem by the Koribe choir group, under the direction of teacher Nadia Nicola, an act that gave way to the welcoming words by Joan Ferrer, who highlighted the importance of this fair as a space for cultural encounter and the promotion of reading.
One of the most surprising moments was the presentation of “FIL”, the event’s mascot: an interactive hologram with artificial intelligence technology that will be available to all visitors in the Imagination Pavilion, one of the fair spaces that captured the greater attention in 2023.
During this presentation, FIL maintained a dialogue with the actor and theater director Fausto Rojas, to whom he answered questions about the activities that will take place at the fair, in addition to demonstrating in his interactions a sense of humor that was developed for those present.
Likewise, in an emotional tribute, the Minister of Culture gave recognition to the writer Rhina Espaillat, a prominent representative of the Dominican community in the United States.
“This recognition symbolizes the wave of the sea that separates us and, at the same time,
connects us,” said Germán, referring to the FILSD 2024 motto, “Books connect.” Espaillat deeply appreciated this honor and expressed his pride in bringing Dominican culture to international stages.
The event concluded with an artistic presentation that included Morrison’s poetry and the interpretation of musical pieces by artists such as Maridalia Hernández and Adalgisa Pantaleón. Finally, to the sound of the merengue “I’m from here, I’m from there”, the official theme of the fair, the ribbon cutting took place that officially marked the beginning of FILSD 2024 About the 2024 Book Fair
With a program that includes more than 500 activities and in which 61 international guests from 18 countries participate, FILSD 2024 promises to be a meeting space for the entire public that comes to the Plaza de la Cultura, where you can enjoy a total of 15 pavilions and various literary spaces.
This festival of letters will bring together representatives of 242 publishing labels, as well as more than a dozen local distributors, while areas will be set up for magazines, institutions, religious literature and foundations.
The complete schedule of the Santo Domingo 2024 Book Fair is available on the Ministry of Culture portal (www.cultura.gob.do) and can also be followed on the institution’s social networks.

Casa De Teatro is a cultural center located in the colonial city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, inaugurated in 1974 by the well-known Dominican writer Freddy Ginebra.
Many new national artists have been born there. Dream and project were unified and all efforts were combined so that this old space would become a cultural center where new and established artists would find their nest. Singers, musicians, dancers, poets, storytellers, actors, painters, designers, photographers... made the old colonial house their home.
The creative effervescence made that a space thought only for theater, was transformed into a painting gallery, rehearsal room, school for children and adults, theater group formation, dance school, photography groups, jazz night, puppet theater, poets meetings, lecturers center... the house came to life and became a channel for new and young artists to express their talent without the need of economic resources or prestige.
Every year more than 30 exhibitions of painting and photography are held in its gallery, music, ballet, theater, conferences and many other cultural expressions are produced. Cultural exchanges are made with other countries, its works and exhibitions are taken to the cities of the interior, presentations to companies are organized. The house is open every day of the year and the artists meet in its café bar and on weekends and holidays.

We’re
with a lot of effort, as a lawyer. I completed my work at night, sometimes with little light, but always with the desire to improve myself, to continue growing.
I was born in San Francisco de Macoris, a town in the north of the Dominican Republic. I was raised in absolute poverty, so I wore my first shoes at the age of ten. I used to cover my feet with rubber flip-flops found in the garbage, which almost always peeled my feet.
At the age of eight I started selling vegetables at the public market in my village with my mother. Another way to subsist was to raise pigs in the backyard where we lived, which were fed with the leftovers from the meals of the richer neighborhoods, where I went every afternoon with a can. Pigs in my country were called “the piggy bank of the poor”, and it was thanks to the sale of one of them that I was able to put on my first shoes.
Our poverty was such that we almost always went to school without breakfast, because sometimes we didn’t even have enough wood for the stove.
In this situation of misery my father decided to go to another town to look for work, which was another hard blow for us, because he was not doing well either. It was many years later that he found a homemade, natural recipe and started a small seasoning factory. This enterprise of my father’s made it possible for me to work with him. I remember that I had to peel the garlic, which was always very hot, which burned my fingers, and they were always full of blisters.
I worked eight hours and sometimes more, when orders increased. This work also made it possible for me to go to university where I graduated,
In my country graduating, especially if you are poor, does not guarantee you a job, because you need to have many relationships, so in 2002, I decided to come in search of the American dream. It was a hard blow for my children, one 2 years old and the other 9 months old. But the biggest blow was for me, because of the need they had for me and thinking that they needed me.
The first barrier to overcome was the language barrier, difficult but not impossible. I managed to get a job working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week with a salary of 50 dollars a week.
This job helped me in what has been my world since I was a child, sales, and with a capital of $70 dollars I started in the watch business. At that time I started to bring some samples of the sazon that my father produced and offered it to my customers to taste, they fell in love with the flavor immediately. The sazon has its trick.
I invite a friend of mine, José Luis is his name, to make me a web page to sell my products. I offer him rice with stewed chicken and when he tastes it, he is left savoring it until he asks me what I had added, I answered him that the seasoning that my father makes in Santo Domingo, he too, like my clients, had been enchanted with the flavor.
That’s when it occurred to me that with a good investment in the factory and processing the permits I could bring them to the United States, so that Hispanics or people from anywhere in the world could enjoy the quality of this seasoning.
And the pandemic, yes, the pandemic made all the investment almost lost, but it did not make me lose faith, I kept looking for a way to sustain it until I was able to bring it, after
overcoming all the bureaucratic barriers of the permits. I remember when my children would ask me, “Mommy, when are the sazones coming? It was hard, but I always answered “soon!
After bringing it in, comes the marketing process. But I know that it is a staple product, nobody eats meat without seasoning anymore, so as my friends say, I put my heart into it!
Many doors were closed to me, I lost money, many questions remain unanswered, many criticisms saying don’t go on with it, a lot of discouragement. But I kept faith in that divine God who is always there for his children.
One day the first boxes arrived, 63 to be exact, I went out in my “guagüita” and in one day they were all sold out. I brought them back and our CLARIBEL, SAZÓN DOMINICANO is already in the main supermarkets of New York, Connecticut, Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey.
I continue to ask for everyone’s support, because my desire is that CLARIBEL SAZÓN DOMINICANO, reaches all the tables of the world, because it is a completely natural seasoning, zero calories and very low in salt.
Thank you Primer Impacto of Univision, the television network that supports Hispanics, for the opportunity, I want that through you doors continue to open for me and be a MOTIVE of inspiration for many, especially for those who come in search of the American dream, which I believe is possible

Being a woman gives us the story of pain and improvement of a writer from her own life... Through her words we find a refuge of understanding and a guide for those who have also faced similar losses.
But it is the author herself who expresses the very essence of her work: “Everything that is written here happened to me and to several friends, collaborators in the domestic sphere and acquaintances who, as women, wives and mothers, seek to please God in our actions”
