從嘉義邁向世界，一段圓滿的旅程

千里之行，始於足下。點滴前行，迎向嶄新未來。

自創辦人夏荊山於 2014 年成立基金會以來，我們秉持回 饋社會的初心，點滴累積，藉由一場又一場的展覽，將夏 荊山大師精彩豐富的藝術內涵分享給海內外的好朋友們。

在疫情三年間，我們馬不停蹄在全臺舉辦展覽，接獲不少 來電，表達對於夏大師佛畫的敬佩與喜愛，希望展覽能夠 更頻繁地在臺灣舉行。這些肯定都是基金會持續前進的動 力！

2023 年，適逢夏荊山大師的百年冥誕。基金會除了維持 在臺的展演活動，也開始跨足歐洲地區，基金會在法國巴 黎策劃了兩場展覽，分別在佛光山佛光緣美術館巴黎館、 歐洲時報文化中心。能夠在巴黎展出夏大師的佛畫藝術， 分享其為人處世的哲學理念，都要感謝許多藝友及合作單 位的邀請、支持，牽起合作的緣分。11 月，基金會和歐 洲華創會簽訂「藝文交流合作備忘錄（MOU）」，推廣 夏荊山大師的佛學與藝術。夏大師從嘉義走進臺灣，由臺 灣走向世界！這是別具意義的一年！回想起夏大師一生的 行誼，不僅是個涵養豐富、學問深廣的智者，他的足跡更 是踏遍世界，年輕時曾遊歷歐美，探訪各大知名博物館，

積累出他深厚的文化與藝術底蘊。基金會透過十年在臺深 耕，將夏荊山的畫作再次帶往歐洲。在多次拜訪倫敦、巴 黎之行中，也獲得許多正面的反饋，未來的合作充滿著無 限可能與希望，值得期待。

在 2023 年的尾聲，基金會再次回到夏大師來臺原點，於 嘉義市政府文化局舉辦「眾神回嘉：夏荊山大師鍾馗特 展」，夏大師晚年創作為數不少的鍾馗作品，這次在嘉義 再度以鍾馗為題展出，更是展示了從未展出的鍾馗畫作， 頗受佳評，並獲邀至佛光山嘉義會館展出，串連起突破的 2023 與嶄新的 2024。

2024 年首月，在 2023 年的努力和催生之下，基金會以 巴黎第十六區市政廳為起點，展開「佛：夏荊山大師展」 巡迴展，這是基金會與歐洲華創會首次合作舉辦的展覽。 新的一年，透過跨國交流，期許基金會接下來的十年能將 夏大師豐富精彩的畫作與人生哲理推廣至世界更多的角 落。

From Chiayi to the world – a perfect journey

A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Taking small steps and head towards the brand new future.

Sincethe founder Xia Jing Shan established the Foundation in 2014, we have adhered to the original intention of giving back to the society. Through the slow accumulation of one exhibition after another, we have shared Master Xia Jing Shan ’s wonderful and rich artistic connotations with good friends at home and abroad. During the three years of the epidemic, we have been holding exhibitions across Taiwan non-stop, and received many calls from people wanting to express their admiration and love for master Xia's Buddhist paintings.They hope that exhibitions can be held more frequently in Taiwan, as those affirmations are definitely the driving forces for the Foundation to keep moving forward!

The year 2023 would have been the 100th birthday of Master Xia Jing Shan. In addition to continuing holding exhibitions and events in Taiwan, the Foundation has also begun to expand into Europe. The Foundation had quickly curated two exhibitions in Paris, France: one at Fo Guang Shan Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery France, and the other at Association des Amis de Nouvelles d ’ Europe. It was all thanks to the invitation and support of many friends in art and the institutions that the Foundation was able to create these collaborative relationships so that master Xia’s Buddhist art and paintings can be exhibited and his life philosophy can be shared with others. In November, the Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for art and culture exchange with the Développement France-Chine in order to promote the Buddhist learning and art of master Xia Jing Shan. Master Xia and his work took their first step from Chiayi into Taiwan, and now are moving from Taiwan and onto the world stage, making it a particularly significant year! Looking back on Master Xia's life, he was not only a wise, cultured man, profoundly knowledgeable, but also traveled all over the world. When he was young, he traveled

to Europe and the United States and visited major wellknown museums, allowing him to develop a profoundly deep sense of cultural and artistic heritage. After a decade of intensive cultivation of resources and relationships in Taiwan, the Foundation has brought Xia Jing Shan's paintings to Europe again. During the many visits to London and Paris, the Foundation had also received a lot of positive feedback, and future collaborative endeavors are filled with infinite possibilities and hope, all of which is worth everyone looking forward.

Towards the end of 2023, the Foundation once again returned to where Master Xia's first resided when he arrived in Taiwan, holding “ The Deities Gathering in Chiayi: Xia Jing Shan’s Zhong Kui Exhibition”, in his late years, Master Xia created not a small number of Zhong Kui themed works, and this exhibition in Chiayi revolved that theme, even displaying some Zhong Kui paintings that has never been shown in public before. The exhibition was well received, and the Foundation was also invited to hold an exhibition at Fo Guang Shan Chiayi Vihara, linking the year 2023 that was full of breakthroughs with the approaching new year.

In the first month of 2024, thanks to the efforts and efforts of 2023, the Foundation will start off the year by launching the "Bouddha : L'exposition de l'art de XIA Jing Shan" at Paris 16th arrondissement city hall. This is the first time that the Foundation and the Développement France-Chine are jointly organizing an exhibition. In this new year, through crossborder exchanges, it is hoped that the Foundation will be able to promote master Xia’s rich and exciting paintings and life philosophy to more corners of the world in the coming decade.

此尊白衣觀音，盤坐於山涯邊巖之菩提團上，身軀微俯，雙手結降魔觸地印。

引喻學人「不識本心，學法無益」。唯有明心見自本性，才真是觀自在菩薩。

朱蔓與雅竹，隱喻世間繁華朱錦，唯有虛竹，謙謙而不染，自能降伏驕慢自大之心。

《楞嚴經．五十陰魔》中有言，色、受、想、行、識之五陰（或五蘊），為修行所 產生的境界，若存聖解即各有十種心內魔或外魔障礙，唯能降伏自我心魔，不起貪 愛驕慢自大之心，則內外魔均不能得便。白衣觀音身軀衣紋用筆柔順恭謹，設色淡 雅中不失華麗，帶有濃纖合度之感。

This Avalokiteśvara in white sits in lotus position on the putan atop a rock on the edge of the mountain. She is leaning forward slightly, forming the Bhumyakramana-Mudrā with both hands. It infers that learning Dharma is of no benefits if one does not know their original citta. The real Avalokiteśvara exist only through seeing one’s own true nature. The red vines and elegant bamboos infers that among the bustles of the world, only the bamboo remains humble and unstained, and is able to tame the arrogant and haughty heart. The fifty Māra (evils) section of the Śūraṃgama-sūtra speaks of the five Skandhas – rupa (form), vedana (sensations), samjna (perceptions), sankhara (mental activity), and vijnana (consciousness) – that arises from practicing Buddhism. Unless one is holy person, one shall be obstructed by the ten internal or external Māras, and only when one’s own Māra of the heart is tamed, when the heart is not greedy, arrogant, or haughty, then the other Māras cannot take over. The paint strokes for the clothing of Avalokiteśvara in white in soft, smooth and respectful, using color setting that are light and elegant without losing any splendor, bringing a feel of perfect proportion.

「明心見性．見性成佛：夏荊山大師佛畫藝術展」（ Éveil spirituel sur la Voie du Bouddha: Exposition de peinture de XIA Jing Shan ）由佛光山法華禪寺、佛光緣美術館總部與財團法人夏荊山文化藝術基金會主 辦，佛光緣美術館巴黎館、林聲文化（舊稱林生文化）承辦， 2023 年 2 月 26 日在法國巴黎碧西市（ Bussy-SaintGeorges ）法華禪寺舉辦盛大開展儀式。

The “Éveil spirituel sur la Voie du Bouddha: Exposition de peinture de XIA Jing Shan” (Finding Enlightenment on the Way to Buddhahood: the Buddha Painting Exhibition of Master Xia Jing Shan) held its opening ceremony at Fo Guang Shan FranceBussy-Saint-Georges On February 26, 2023. The exhibition was organized by Fo Guang Shan France, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery headquarters, and Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, and undertaken by Fo Guang Yuan Paris Art Gallery and Lissome Art & Culture Co., Ltd.

They were joined by over a hundred art enthusiasts at the event.

展覽以「明心見性 見性成佛」為題，集結 夏荊山畢生精華之佛畫藝術瑰寶共 44 件， 分為「俯首澗月」、「入世紅塵」、「超 凡入聖」三大子題，呈現轉凡成聖的創作 歷程，傳達夏荊山「自學、自修、自悟、 自覺、自成佛」的理念。正如佛光山開山 祖師星雲大師所教導的「做己貴人」，要 認清自己的佛性，肯定自己的佛性，每個 人都是自己悟道的貴人，都能夠成佛，寶 藏就在自己的心田裡，就看怎麼發掘出 來。

開幕式中，基金會董事長趙忠傑博士也以

主辦方代表致詞，提到自己與星雲大師的 因緣，看到夏荊山大師和星雲大師的書信 往來，才知原來是舊識，非常感謝星雲大 師的因緣，而能有這次的展覽。夏荊山一 生對藝術及教育相當注重，被讚譽與張大 千、溥心畬為佛教藝術界中的重要三者。

趙忠傑表示，自己很有福報，得以收藏超 過萬幅夏荊山的作品。

法華禪寺監院妙訓法師以主辦方代表致 詞，指出星雲大師創辦佛光緣美術館， 便是以「人」為中心，對於佛光緣美術館 而言，收藏世界珍貴文物不是最主要的目 的，而是透過展覽，舉辦教育推廣，促進 社會人際關係的和諧，達到以藝術弘揚佛 法，以教育淨化心靈。這是 2006 年大師 就提出的觀念，而在 2022 年國際博物館 協會 ICOM 的年會上，確認了「博物館的 新定義」：「要以符合倫理而專業的方式 運作和溝通，並在社區參與下，提供教育、 娛樂、反思和知識共享等多重體驗。」

因展期將逢佛誕日，趙博士致贈夏荊山畫 作〈佛彩千秋〉予法華禪寺，妙訓法師以 《與大師面對面 – 星雲大師書法和張大千 書畫合集》做為回禮，指出此次展覽是為 傳承大師們的慈心悲願，為世間注入更多 真善美的因緣，意義非凡。

The exhibition was focused on the theme of “finding enlightenment on the way to Buddhahood”, and brought together 44 Buddhist art treasure by Xia Jing Shan that are a culmination of his life’s work. The three sub-themes “bowing one’s head to the moon in the creek”, “The Secular World”, “The Transcendent Realm”, displayed the creative path of the ordinary becoming saintly, which also conveys Xia Jing Shan’s ideal of “self-learning, self-study, self-enlightenment, self-consciousness, and selfattainment of Buddhahood". Just as Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, taught "to be your own benefactor ", one must recognize one’s own Buddhanature and affirm that Buddha-nature. Everyone is their own benefactor who can realize enlightenment and reach Buddhahood. The treasure everyone seeks is in their own heart, it all just depends on how they can uncover it.

At the opening ceremony, chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Chung-Chieh Chao also made an address on behalf of the organizers. He mentioned the history between himself and Master Hsing Yun, and he only realized that master Xia Jing Shan and Master Hsing Yun were old acquaintances from the letters they wrote to each other. He was very appreciative for having known Master Hsing Yun, which led to the exhibition, and stated that Xia Jing Shan had always been focused on art and education through his life, and was praised as the one of the three important figures in Buddhist art along with Dai-chien Chang and Xinyu Pu . Dr. Chao indicated that he has been very fortunate to be able to have collected over ten thousand pieces of work by Xia Jing Shan at the Foundation.

Fo Guang Shan France superintendent Master Miao Xun also spoke as a representative of the organizers, and stated Master Hsing Yun founded Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery with “man” at its center. For Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, collecting valuable cultural relics from around the world is not its main objective, but it is rather to facilitate social and interpersonal relationships through exhibitions and educational promotions, to advocate Dharma through art, to purify the spirit and soul through education. This was the concept that Master Hsing Yun proposed in 2006, which matches part of the new definition the Extraordinary General Assembly of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) proposed in 2022: “….They operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with the participation of communities, offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing”,

Since the exhibition coincided with Buddha's birthday, Dr. Chao gifted a painting of Buddha by Xia Jing Shan to Fo Guang Shan France. Master Miao Xun responded in kind with Face to Face with the Masters - A Collection of Master Hsing Yun's Calligraphy and Chang Dai-chien’s Calligraphy and Painting, and she pointed out that this exhibition has inherited the compassionate wishes of the masters and is of extraordinary significance as it injects more truth, goodness and beauty into the world.

Master Miao Xun presents Face to Face with the Masters - A Collection of Master Hsing Yun's Calligraphy and Chang Dai-chien’s Calligraphy and Painting as a gift in return

Under the accompaniment of an elegant performance by the chamber string orchestra le Quatuor Hiver, the unveiling of the giant work astounded those present.

趙博士特地從台灣帶來夏荊山巨幅名作〈佛國〉，全長近 9 公尺，為夏荊山 75 歲時所作，描繪華嚴三聖主尊釋迦 牟尼佛、脅侍文殊菩薩、普賢菩薩。佛像飽滿，設色豐富，背景大片沉穩的藍，襯托出主尊釋迦牟尼的莊嚴與雍容， 畫中細節，精心描繪。在優雅的室內弦樂團 le Quatuor Hiver 的演奏聲中，進行開大畫的儀式，讓現場與會大眾 為之驚嘆。

趙博士於開幕式當日為貴賓們導覽，傳達展覽策畫之理念與夏荊山佛畫的特色之處。當代佛畫藝術巨擘夏荊山 （1923-2019），被譽為「跨世紀佛畫藝術第一人」，出身於山東濰坊，自幼便隨知名畫家郭味蕖學習丹青。

1949 年隨國民政府來臺期間，於南亭法師門下皈依佛教，更結識恩師南懷瑾，奠定自身佛法基礎，潛心鑽研佛像 繪畫藝術。1988 年後因自身感悟，發願以畫弘揚佛法，將自身修持體悟與定力投射於畫中，傳達更高的佛法深蘊 與精神表徵，進而永續傳承中國佛像藝術文化。

Dr. Chao especially brought a giant painting by Xia Jing Shan Buddha Nation from Taiwan, and personally introduced the work to the audience.

Dr. Chao made special preparation to bring a giant work Buddha Nation by Xia Jing Shan from Taiwan. The work is just over 9m in length, and was composed by Master Xia when he was 75 years of age, portraying the three saints of Mahāvaipulya Buddhāvataṃsaka Sūtra, Buddha Śākyamuni and his attendants Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra. The figures are full and colorful, and the expansive background in a calming blue brings out the solemnity and grace of Buddha Śākyamuni. The details in the painting were painted meticulously. The unveiling of the giant painting was accompanied by an elegant performance from the chamber string orchestra le Quatuor Hiver, and this combination of art and music astounded those present.

On the day of the opening ceremony, Dr. Chao provided a guided tour for the distinguished guests, conveying the concept in the curation of the exhibition and the features of Xia Jing Shan’s Buddhist paintings. Xia Jing Shan (1923-2019), a giant in contemporary Buddhist art world, has been praised as "First Buddhist Art Maestro Across Centries". He was born in Weifang in Shandong Province, China. He studied Chinese painting with the famous painter Wei-Qu Guo as a child. When he came to Taiwan with the Nationalist government in 1949, he became a Buddhist under Master Nan Ting. He also met his mentor Hua-Chin Nan, which laid the foundation for his own Buddhist beliefs, and he devoted himself to studying the art and painting of Buddhist figures. After 1988, due to his own enlightenment, he vowed to promote Buddhism through painting, projecting his own practice, understanding and concentration into his paintings to convey the deeper meaning and spiritual representation of Buddhism, and to further continue the inheritance and legacy of art and culture inspired by Chinese Buddhist figures.

2010 年在北京故宮博物院展出，時任院長 鄭欣淼將夏荊山的佛像譽為「未來文物」， 並典藏其〈自在觀音菩薩像〉，填補北京故 宮博物院當代佛教藝術的收藏。亞洲大學現 代美術館館長潘襎博士指出，「近代中國佛 像藝術饒富特色者，首推 3 人，一為張大千、 二為溥心畬，三則為夏荊山。夏荊山晚出， 更能博彩眾長，匠心獨造。」讚譽夏荊山與 張大千、溥心畬，同為當代佛教藝術界中唯 三，足能等量齊觀、睥睨全球。

夏荊山與佛光緣美術館創辦人星雲大師，對 於社會都高度的關懷，其遺留在人間的善美 精神，賦予此次展覽更深遠的意涵，可謂宗 教家星雲大師與藝術家夏荊山大師慈悲與願 力的交會。

When exhibited at the Palace Museum in Beijing in 2010, the then Museum Director Xin-Miao Zheng praised Xia Jing Shan's Buddha figures as "cultural relics of the future" and collected one of Xia’s Avalokiteśvara to fill the gap the Palace Museum had in contemporary Buddhist art collection. Dr. Pan Fan, Director of Asia University Museum of Modern Art, pointed out, “When talking about artists with their distinctive style in contemporary Chinese Buddhist art, three people come to mind: the first is Chang Dai-chien, the second is Pu Xin Yu, and the third is Xia Jing Shan. Xia Jing Shan emerged later compared to the other two, absorbing the best of the others, and has his own unique creative thoughts.” His praise put Xia Jing Shan on par with Chang Dai-chien and Pu Xin Yu in the world of contemporary Buddhist art, with sufficient artistic energy to match the other masters and stand out on the global stage.

Both Xia Jing Shan and the founder of Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Master Hsing Yun have demonstrated great concerns for society at large, and their spirit of goodness has remained in the world, giving this exhibition even more profound meaning – an intersection of compassion and willpower between the religionist Master Hsing Yun and the art Master Xia Jing Shan.

佈置，覺得展廳入口曲徑通幽、別有洞天，相當讚嘆。在展覽結束的前 一天，趙博士也為巴黎奕德書院的小朋友們進行導覽介紹，結合菩薩及鍾馗的 小故事，在一問一答的互動中，讓學生更認識佛教故事及夏爺爺精彩的佛像創 作。導覽結束後，趙博士送給小朋友及家長們一張開運錦囊明信片，不亦樂乎。

The space in Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery is exquisite and quiet, and visitors particularly liked the layout of the exhibition. They were also very impressed by the winding and tranquil path at the entrance of the exhibition hall creating a scene of exceptional charm. The day before the exhibition closed, Dr. Chao also gave a guided tour to the children of Yide Academy in Paris. Through a combination of short stories about Bodhisattva and Zhong Kui, and through question-and-answer interactions, the students learned more about Buddhist stories and the wonderful Buddhist figures created by grandpa Xia. After the tour, Dr. Chao gifted the children and their parents postcards of good fortune, ending the day on a high note.

未來文物在巴黎 「未來文物，世界瑰寶：夏荊山大師畫展」

緊 接佛光山法華禪寺的展出，基金會海外第二站來到 歐洲時報文化中心（ ASSOCIATION DES AMIS DE NOUVELLES D'EUROPE ，以下簡稱歐時）。「未來文物， 世界瑰寶：夏荊山大師畫展」 2023 年 6 月 10 日在歐洲時 報文化中心盛大舉行開幕式。佛畫藝術在巴黎展出實屬難 得，觀展人潮絡繹不絕，眾人熱情響應。展覽由財團法人夏 荊山文化藝術基金會、科特迪瓦駐聯合國教科文組織、 My Exclusive Collection (M.E.C) 主辦；法國華僑華人婦女聯合 會、連勝培訓公司、林聲文化藝術股份有限公司（舊稱林生 文化藝術股份有限公司）承辦，跨界合作，推展中華文化與 藝術之美。

Immediately following the exhibition at Fo Guang Shan France, the second stop for the Foundation was at Association des Amis de Nouvelles d’Europe (hereafter known as the Association d’Europe), where the “Artistic Journey Beyond Time: Xia Jing Shan Art Exhibition” was held and opened on June 10, 2023. It is rare for Buddhist art and paintings to be shown in Paris, and this drew endless crowds and enthusiastic responses from the public. The exhibition was organized by the Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, the Côte d'Ivoire delegation to UNESCO and My Exclusive Collection (M.E.C); the event was also a cross-sector effort undertaken by Association des Femmes d'Origine Chinoise Résidant en France, NextUp Formation, and Lissome Art & Culture Co., Ltd., as a promotion of the beauty in Chinese art and culture.

夏荊山文化藝術基金會董事長趙忠傑博 士致詞時提到，他感受到法國華僑朋友 們很熱情，在籌備展覽的一路上都有他 們的護持，看到眾位朋友對佛畫藝術的 喜愛與支持，對基金會除了是一種肯 定，也是基金會再到法國展出的重要推 力。2010 年，夏大師的〈自在觀音菩 薩像〉被北京故宮博物院收藏，這幅 畫被當時的館長鄭欣淼譽為「未來文 物」，也是展覽名稱「未來文物，世界 瑰寶」的緣由。夏大師自幼學習丹青筆 墨，1970 年移居美國，使其作品納古 典於現代、融匯中西藝術，超越時間、 空間的限制，自成一格，如今來到西方 藝術重鎮巴黎展出，更是意義非凡、因 緣殊勝！

Numerous invited guests were present at the ceremony, including permanent delegate of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO Ramata Bakayolo-ly, Deputy Mayor of Gentilly David Allais, president of Développement France-Chine Chun Wong, chairperson Lan Chen and deputy chairperson Zhen Wang of Association des Femmes d'Origine Chinoise Résidant en France, Vice president of La Maison des Artistes Ma Tse Lin, chairman of Association des Compatriotes de Qing Tain en France Wei Zhou, chairperson of Global CEO Clubs France Caroline Gao, chairman of European Contemporary Art Association Qing-Bo Sun, Chairperson of French Eastern Art Association Hsin-Li Wu, president of NextUp Formation Yi-Hsin Chen, deputy chairman of Amicale des Teochew en France Jing-Han Zhang, and collector Yi-Qiang Luo.

During his address, the chairman of Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, Dr. Chung-Chieh Chao stated that he felt the passion from the Chinese expats in France, as their support was felt throughout the entire process of preparing and curating the exhibition. Seeing everyone’s love and support for Buddhist art and painting was not only an affirmation for the Foundation itself, but also an important motivation for the Foundation to hold more exhibitions in France in the future. In 2010, when master Xia’s Avalokiteśvara painting was collected by the Palace Museum in Beijing, the painting was praised by the then Museum director Zheng Xin Miao as a “relic of the future”, which is where the title of the exhibition “Cultural Relics of the Future, Treasures of the World” originated from. Master Xia learned Chinese painting and calligraphy from a young age, and settled in the U.S. in 1970. This made his work incorporate the classical into the modern, fusing Eastern and Western art, and surpassing the limitation of time and space to create his own style. The fact that now his work was now being exhibited at Paris, the bastion of Western art, carried profound significance, and is a rare event indeed.

開幕式重頭戲，在氣勢磅 礴 的樂聲中， 基金會董事長趙忠傑博士帶領團隊展 開一幅夏荊山大師的巨幅名作—〈佛 國〉。畫作全長近 9 公尺，寬 2 公尺， 色彩飽滿鮮豔，人物眾多，氣勢非凡。 在趙博士的帶領解說下，眾人更能徜 徉在畫中豐富的細節。釋迦牟尼佛穩 坐於中央，神情莊嚴祥和，守護著太 平盛世 ; 日月光菩薩、文殊菩薩與普 賢菩薩隨侍在一旁，此外，也有道釋 人物與儒家人物，此幅畫集儒、釋、 道三家於一體，融洽和諧，象徵儒家 所稱大同世界，也表達藝術無分國界， 可以融合不同的文化、語言。

The highlight of the opening ceremony was the giant painting Buddha Nation unveiled by Dr. Chao and his team under the accompaniment of majestic music. The painting is over 9m long and 2m wide, with rich and bright colors, numerous figures, creating an extraordinary aura. With the introduction and explanation from Dr. Chao, everyone enjoyed the rich details in the painting: Buddha Sakyamuni is firmly seated in the center with a solemn and peaceful expression, guarding the peaceful and prosperous world; Sūryaprabha, Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra are on the side accompanying him. In addition, there are also Taoist, Buddhist figures and Confucian figures in the scene. This painting combines the three schools of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, integrated into one harmonious scene symbolizing what Confucianism calls the world of great unity. It also presents the idea that art knows no boundaries and can integrate different cultures and languages.

The giant painting Buddha Nation is over 9m in length, 2m wide, including figures from Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism in bright and vibrant colors. Many guests were capturing the moment with their cellphones.

夏大師筆下題材多元，此次共展出 其畢生傑作共 66 件畫作，共分為 6 個主題，分別是佛、菩薩、觀音、 道釋人物、鍾馗、書法。有別於巴 黎常見的西方當代藝術，夏大師的 佛畫藝術涵蓋中國文化深厚的底 蘊，前來觀展的民眾對其筆觸細膩 與人物的唯妙唯肖感到驚豔。在藝 術的國度，有東西方觀念碰撞出的 火花，更有超越時空、文化的無盡 想像空間，觀展時可以感受到佛畫 藝術的源遠流長以及佛菩薩捨己 為人的慈悲胸懷，使人感到身心自 在祥和。

The themes painted by master Xia ranged far and wide, and a total of 66 superb works drawn from various points in his life was on display at the exhibition. The works were divided under 6 themes: Buddha, Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara, Taoist and Buddhist figures, Zhong Kui and calligraphy. In comparison to the Western contemporary art that is often seen in Paris, master Xia’s Buddhist painting and art covered the profound history of Chinese culture; the details and meticulous brushwork as well as the realistic portrayal of the figures astounded the visiting public. In the realm of art, there were sparks that are generated by clashes between Western and Eastern ideals, and limitless space for imagination that can cross space, time and culture. When viewing the exhibition, it was possible to feel the long history of Buddhist art and painting, the compassionate, self-sacrificing heart of Buddha and Bodhisattva, all of which put people at ease physically and spiritually.

2023夏荊山百年暝誕歐洲將迎來佛教藝術文藝復興的浪潮

夏荊山文化藝術基金會與歐洲華創會簽署「藝文交流合作備忘錄（ MOU）」，雙方將在互信、長久的基礎 上，透過舉辦畫展、學術講座等藝文交流活動，推廣佛畫藝術與中華文化。

The Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation and the Développement France-Chine signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for art and culture exchange. Based on long-term mutual trust, both parties will strive to promote the art of Buddhist painting and Chinese culture through organizing events such as painting exhibitions and academic lectures.

簽署備忘錄的儀式中，基金會董事長趙忠傑表 示，在法國辦展覽的一路上遇到許多志同道合 的朋友，很開心在法國的朋友如此熱情、共襄盛舉這 樣的文化盛事。華創會會長黃進表示，不久前他在歐 洲時報文化中心「未來文物·世界瑰寶：夏荊山大師 畫展」中接觸到夏大師的作品，對其筆墨精湛、題材 多元感到佩服，與基金會更進一步交流後，更敬佩夏 大師一生對佛畫藝術的貢獻，也與基金會趙董事長相 談甚是投緣，希望能開啟更多合作的可能性，為文化 事業貢獻一份心力。

2023年10月14日，在法蘭西藝術學院通訊院士高 立昂(Jean-François Collignon)、巴黎市第11區議 員曾永革與資深旅法文化學者徐利生的見證下，夏荊 山文化藝術基金會董事長趙忠傑博士與歐洲華創會會 長黃進分別在備忘錄上簽字，雙方代表有志一同，推 廣中華文化與佛畫藝術，嘉惠歐洲、甚至全球的朋友。

此次合作協議的簽署是個開端，期待未來共同舉辦展 覽以及各種文化推廣活動，開創新格局，雙方團隊都 信心滿滿，準備好迎接嶄新的未來。

During the MOU signing ceremony, Dr. Chung-Chieh Chao, Chairman of Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, said that he had met many like-minded people along the way when the Foundation was organizing exhibitions in France, and that he was very happy that those in France were so enthusiastic about getting involved in such cultural feasts. Mr. Chun Wong, the Chairman of Développement France-Chine, said that he came across Master Xia's works not long ago at the “ Voyage Artistique à Travers Le Temps : Exposition de peinture de XIA Jing Shan” held at the Association des Amis de Nouvelles d’Europe. After viewing the works, he came to admire the mastery of master Xia’s brushwork and the diversity of his themes. After further exchanges with the Foundation, his repsect towards Master Xia's lifelong contribution to the art of Buddhist painting increased even more; he also had connected with Dr. Chao, and hoped to foster more possibilities for cooperation and contribute to the cultural cause.

On October 14, 2023, in the presence of Jean-François Collignon, correspondent of Académie des Beaux-Arts; Yung-Ge Tseng, Councilor of the 11th arrondissement of the city of Paris, and Mr. Li-Sheng Xu, senior French culture scholar, Dr. Chao, and Mr. Chun Wong, signed the MOU on behalf of their organizations, in which the two representatives expressed their intention to work together, to promote Chinese culture and Buddhist painting art for the benefit of audiences in Europe and even around the world. The signing of this memorandum was just the beginning, and the public should look forward to exhibitions and various cultural promotional event jointly held by the two organizations in the future, forging a new path where both teams are fully confident that they are ready to embrace a brand-new future.

「萬法心生：夏荊山大師佛畫藝術經典展」自3月 17日至4月19於慈濟高雄靜思堂進行展出，是 財團法人夏荊山文化藝術基金會（以下簡稱基金會）與慈濟 慈善事業基金會（以下簡稱慈濟基金會）合作，展覽規模最 大的一場巡迴展出。在展覽中，同場亮相共十幅夏荊山大師 的巨幅佛像，場面雄偉盛大。

The "All the Dharmas Emanate from Within: Xia Jing Shan Master Art Exhibition" is on display at the Tzu Chi Kaohsiung Jing Si Hall from March 17th to April 19th. This exhibition is a collaboration between the Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) and the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Tzu Chi Foundation), making it the largest touring exhibition to date. The exhibition features ten large-scale Buddha images by Master Xia Jing Shan, presenting a grand and majestic spectacle. ▶ 高雄靜思堂「萬法心生：夏荊山大師佛畫藝術經典展」為基金會與慈濟基金會合作， 規模最大的一場展覽，場面壯闊，莊嚴肅穆。

The "All the Dharmas Emanate from Within: Xia Jing Shan Master Art Exhibition" at the Kaohsiung Jing Si Hall is a collaboration between the Foundation and the Tzu Chi Foundation. It is the largest exhibition to date, presenting a broad, solemn, and aweinspiring spectacle.

展覽由高雄市政府為指導單位，財團法人夏荊山文化藝術基金會與慈濟慈善事業基金會聯合主辦，林聲文 化藝術股份有限公司（舊稱林生文化）承辦。與會嘉賓包括高雄市長陳其邁、臺南市長黃偉哲、嘉義縣長 翁章梁、財團法人夏荊山文化藝術基金會董事長趙忠傑博士、慈濟傳播人文志業基金會董事蔡堆。

The exhibition is guided by the Kaohsiung City Government and co-hosted by the Foundation and the Tzu Chi Foundation, with Lissome Art & Culture Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Lissome Culture) undertaking the organization. Distinguished guests include Kaohsiung Mayor Chi-Mai Chen, Tainan Mayor Wei-Che Huang, Chiayi County Magistrate Chang-Liang Weng, Dr. Chung-Chieh Chao, Chairperson of the Foundation, and Tui Tsai, Director of the Tzu Chi Culture & Communication Foundation.

當代佛畫藝術巨擘夏荊山在臺灣、中國大陸 開辦學院並無償教授學生，一如慈濟證嚴上 人無私為眾生的慈悲精神，均是一生孜孜不 倦地為眾生付出。本次展覽「萬法心生」為 基金會與慈濟基金會合作，期以藝術展覽形 式傳遞佛法，使大眾受益，啟動全臺靜思堂 巡迴展，起迄時間為 2022 年 8 月至 2023 年 4 月，繼花蓮、新店之後，最終站來到高雄， 夏荊山大師也是第一位於慈濟靜思堂巡迴展 出的佛畫藝術家。

Master Xia Jing Shan, a giant in contemporary Buddhist art, has established academies in Taiwan and mainland China, teaching students for free. This mirrors the selfless and compassionate spirit of Venerable Master Cheng-Yen of Tzu Chi, who tirelessly devotes her life to all sentient beings. The "All the Dharmas Emanate from Within: Xia Jing Shan Master Art Exhibition" is a collaboration between the Foundation and the Tzu Chi Foundation, aiming to disseminate Buddhist teachings through art for the benefit of the public. The exhibition is part of a tour across Tzu Chi Jing Si Halls in Taiwan, running from August 2022 to April 2023. After Hualien and Xindian, the final stop is Kaohsiung. Master Xia Jing Shan is also the first Buddhist artist to have his work exhibited in a touring exhibition at Tzu Chi Jing Si Halls.

高雄「萬法心生：夏荊山大師佛畫藝術經典 展」共集結夏荊山大師畢生作品共 168 件， 分別為三大主題：「巨幅佛像」、「入世紅 塵」與「超凡境界」，包括佛、觀音、菩薩、 鍾馗、達摩、羅漢與書法等系列。觀者猶如 進入三千大千世界，佛像莊嚴殊勝、菩薩低 眉慈祥，道釋人物題材多元，仿若道盡人生 百態 ; 觀看其筆觸，微妙細膩，題款與書法 啟迪人心，是場十分難得的藝術饗宴。

The "All the Dharmas Emanate from Within: Xia Jing Shan Master Art Exhibition" in Kaohsiung brings together a total of 168 works by Master Xia Jing Shan. These works are divided into three major themes: "Large Buddha Images", " Engagement with the Secular World", and "Transcendent Realm". They include a variety of subjects such as Buddha, Avalokiteśvara, Bodhisattva, Zhong Kui, Dharma, Arhat, and calligraphy. As viewers step into this exhibition, they are as if entering the "three thousand worlds." The Buddha images are solemn and extraordinary, the Bodhisattvas are kind with lowered eyebrows, and the themes of Taoist and Buddhist characters are diverse, as if narrating all aspects of life. The subtlety and delicacy of his brushwork, along with the enlightening inscriptions and calligraphy, make this a truly rare feast of art.

Master Xia Jing Shan's depictions of Avalokiteśvara often originate from the "Universal Door Chapter" of the Lotus Sutra , the Avatamsaka Sutra, and the " Three Canons of Pure Land ". The majority of his works feature Avalokiteśvara in white robes, but there are also rich creations such as Avalokitesvara and Sudhanakumara, Avalokitesvara and a Boy Worshiper, Avalokiteśvara, vermilion bamboo, Avalokiteśvara standing on a lotus base, and Dhyāna.

Master Xia Jing Shan's works seamlessly integrate Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, displaying a profound mastery of various subjects with impeccable skill in his brushwork.

主辦單位財團法人夏荊山文化藝術基金會董 事長趙忠傑博士在致詞中，首先感謝賴清德 副總統特別致電祝賀，夏荊山大師與張大 千、溥心畬並列為當代佛畫藝術三大家，其 所畫的佛像法相莊嚴，使人感到身心自在祥 和。這次很開心可以來到高雄，與大家分享 夏大師的畫作，也感謝高雄市政府、證嚴上 人和慈濟團隊，使展覽可以在偌大莊嚴的場 地舉行。

In his speech, Dr. Chao Chung-Chieh, Chairperson of the Foundation, the organizer of the event, first expressed his gratitude to Vice President Lai Ching-Te for his special congratulatory call. He mentioned that Master Xia Jing Shan, along with Chang Dai-Chien and Pu Xin-Yu, are considered the three masters of contemporary Buddhist art. The Buddha images painted by Master Xia are solemn and dignified, bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to the viewer. He expressed his joy at being able to share Master Xia's paintings in Kaohsiung and thanked the Kaohsiung City Government, Venerable Master Cheng-Yen, and the Tzu Chi team for providing such a grand and solemn venue for the exhibition.

夏大師被譽為當代佛畫藝術第一人，到了耄 耋之年依舊勤於創作，藝術境界臻於完善， 使得不同文化、國籍的人都可透過夏大師的 藝術親近佛法。

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai expressed his gratitude to the Foundation and the Tzu Chi Foundation during his speech. He thanked both foundations for their collaboration in making this grand exhibition possible in Kaohsiung. Through Master Xia's Buddhist art, the citizens of Kaohsiung can get closer to Buddhism and experience the mystery of "To see a world in a wild flower, and a Tathagata in a leaf." Master Xia, hailed as the foremost figure in contemporary Buddhist art, continues to create diligently even in his old age. His artistic realm has reached perfection, allowing people of different cultures and nationalities to get closer to Buddhism through his art.

Tainan Mayor Wei-Che Huang stated, “Master Xia Jing Shan's calligraphy and ink work is proficient and diverse, with no piece lacking in refinement. The 168 pieces exhibited in Kaohsiung and the 108 pieces previously displayed at the Tainan Art Museum are almost entirely unique, demonstrating the high artistic achievement of Master Xia, unmatched by others. Furthermore, Buddhist art conveys a message of peace and has the power to soothe the soul. We are grateful to the Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation and the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation for bringing a positive impact to society through this exhibition. As people admire the extraordinary Buddhist images, they can find tranquility within themselves.”

嘉義縣長翁章梁致詞時提到，夏荊山大師抵 臺後的第一個據點即在嘉義，足見夏大師與 嘉義的緣份深厚。翁縣長也向趙博士請精緻 版畫，他認為夏大師把佛法裡的「自在」充 分體現在其作品中，使觀者在觀畫時心靈沈 澱，並能夠轉化心境，十分符合本次展覽主 題「萬法心生」，也希望大家藉由畫展，得 到精神層面的昇華，追求心中的理想，悠遊 於廣闊的心靈之海。

During his address, Chiayi County Magistrate Chang-Liang Weng mentioned that after arriving in Taiwan, Master Xia Jing Shan's first foothold was in Chiayi, highlighting the deep connection between Master Xia and Chiayi. Magistrate Weng also requested a refined print from Dr. Chao, noting that Master Xia fully embodies the concept of "unbounded" from Buddhist teachings in his artwork, allowing viewers to achieve spiritual tranquility and transform their mindset while contemplating his paintings. This aligns perfectly with the exhibition's theme of "All the Dharmas Emanate from Within." He hopes that through this art exhibition, people can experience a spiritual elevation and pursue their ideals, wandering in the vast sea of the mind.

慈濟傳播人文志業基金會董事蔡堆表示，夏 荊山大師原本就有很高的藝術造詣，在 1988 年閉關頓悟，此後發願只畫殊勝佛畫，因此 觀看夏大師的佛畫可以達到身心健康平和。

在證嚴上人講《法華經》中，即便一個小孩 拿樹枝或用手指畫佛像，都是無量功德，慢 慢累積，都可成菩薩、成佛，夏大師畫眾多 殊勝的佛像，與大家結緣，絕對是菩薩，也 使得眾人得以同霑法喜、獲益良多。

Tui Tsai, the director of the Tzu Chi Culture & Communication Foundation, stated that Master Xia Jing Shan was already a highly accomplished artist. In 1988, after a period of intensive meditation and enlightenment, he made a vow to exclusively create exceptional Buddha images. Therefore, viewing Master Xia's Buddha paintings can promote physical and mental well-being. In the context of Venerable Master Cheng-Yen's teachings on the Lotus Sutra, even a child drawing a Buddha image with a twig or their fingers accumulates immeasurable merit. Over time, these merits can lead one to become a Bodhisattva or attain Buddhahood. Master Xia has painted numerous exceptional Buddha images, establishing connections with everyone. He is undoubtedly a Bodhisattva, allowing others to share in the joy of the Dharma and benefiting greatly.

開幕式後，由中國文化大學史學所系陳清香 教授為與會來賓進行藝術導覽，在陳清香教 授的解說下，眾人更能領略夏大師畫中的箇 中妙趣，也能深入理解佛畫藝術的歷史源流， 為本次展覽開幕式劃下圓滿的句點。

Following the opening ceremony, professor Ch'ing-Hsiang Chen from the History Department of the Chinese Culture University conducted an art tour for the attendees. Under Professor Chen's commentary, everyone was able to appreciate the subtleties in Master Xia's paintings and gain a deeper understanding of the historical origins of Buddhist art, bringing a perfect conclusion to the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

夏荊山文化藝術基金會與佛光山基隆極樂寺、基 隆市立法委員蔡適應辦公室共同舉辦「未來文物 世界瑰寶：夏荊山大師展」，展期自 2023 年 7 月 1 日 至 10 月 31 日，並於 7 月 16 日在佛光山基隆極樂寺大 雄寶殿舉行開幕儀式，開幕式近 200 人與會，莊嚴隆 重，法喜充滿。

Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, Fo Guang Shan Ji Le Temple, and the Office of Legislator Shih-Ying Tsai (Keelung City) jointly organized the “Artistic Journey Beyond Time: Xia Jing Shan Art Exhibition” from July 1 to October 31, 2023. The opening ceremony was held at Mahavira Hall of Fo Guang Shan Ji Le Temple in Keelung City on July 16, where over 200 people were in attendance, and the event was a solemn and grand occasion, but also filled with dharmic joy.
