DAVID VINSON, Ph.D. SUPERINTENDENT OF WYLIE ISD
“ It’s more than a saying, it’s a belief. We’re proud of who we are, proud of the work we do, and proud of the people who make this district what it is.
“
I hope your summer brought you rest, joy, and some time with the people who matter most. As we begin a new school year, I want you to know how proud I am of this district, of our staff, our students, our families, and our community.
This year, you’ll see our focus reflected in our year’s theme Proud to Be Wylie ISD. It’s more than a saying, it’s a belief. We’re proud of who we are, proud of the work we do, and proud of the people who make this district what it is. We don’t need to compare ourselves to anyone else. We know what makes Wylie ISD special: strong relationships, high expectations, and a culture built on doing things the right way, the Wylie Way.
Our school board continues to lead with a clear vision: to provide a world-class
education that prepares every student for success beyond graduation. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or in the community, we want every student to grow, thrive, and feel a deep sense of belonging.
To help you get ready for the year ahead, we’ve put together our annual Backto-School Guide. It includes important information about student services, safety, fine arts, athletics, and more – all in one place. We hope it makes your transition into the new year a little smoother. If you ever have suggestions for how we can improve, we’re always open to feedback.
Let’s make it a great year. Let’s lead with pride. Let’s show the world what it means to be Proud to Be Wylie ISD.

Wylie ISD Student Services is responsible for a range of essential functions that contribute to the overall well-being and success of students. The department provides comprehensive assistance and support for students and families that is achieved through close coordination with district leadership and campus administration. Areas of oversight include:
Please visit the Wylie ISD website for up-to-date information on Dress Code, helpful guides and documents including the Student Handbooks, Student Code of Conduct and more.
The start of a new school year is a great time to revisit the expectations and shared responsibilities that help keep our schools safe, supportive, and focused on learning.
What you need to know:
Two important resources for families are the Wylie ISD Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.
These documents outline the rules, policies, and procedures that help create a positive school environment. From attendance to behavior expectations, dress code to digital device guidelines, they cover the essentials that students and families need to know.
The Student Code of Conduct also explains how the district responds when expectations aren’t met. It’s not just about consequences — it’s about helping students learn from their mistakes, understand the impact of their choices, and grow into respectful, responsible members of our school community.
We encourage all families to review both documents together and reach out to your campus if you have questions. Understanding these guidelines is one way we can all work together to make it a successful school year.
View the Student Code of Conduct View the Student Handbook.
Wylie ISD’s dress code reflects our commitment to maintaining a school atmosphere that is appropriate for learning, while also allowing for flexibility and personal choice. Everyone’s comfort level is different, and Wylie ISD believes this dress code represents a reasonable standard that promotes respect, responsibility, and readiness to learn.
The district dress code is reviewed every two years for students in grades 5–12. The secondary dress code (grades 5–12) has been updated for the 2025-26 school year. Elementary dress code remains the same as previous school years.
If you have any questions about the dress code, please refer to the dress code guidelines or contact your school principal for clarification.
Starting this school year, a new state law (House Bill 1481) prohibits students from using personal devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and personal laptops, from the first bell to the last bell, in all areas of campus. Devices must be powered off, out of sight, and stored during the school day.
Exceptions include:
Documented medical needs
Approved IEP/504 accommodations
Emergency situations
Details on how this law will be implemented will be emailed to families before the first day of school and posted on the Student Services section of the district website.
For the latest update on Immunizations for 2025-26, please visit wylieisd.net/ immunization. Find immunization resources here.
Bullying is not tolerated in Wylie ISD. If you or your student need to report incidents of bullying, please visit our website at wylieisd.net/bullying.
Remember, reporting bullying is an essential step in upholding our shared values and ensuring the well-being of our students. Together, we can work towards preventing and addressing bullying effectively.
Below is a quick overview of the Wylie ISD School Attendance/Absence Policies. It is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbook located on the Wylie ISD website. The district’s attendance policy can be found starting on page 33 of the Student Handbook.
When a student returns from an absence, the student must bring a parent-signed note to the attendance office that describes the reason for the absence or the parent may enter the reason for the absence in Skyward Parent Access. After three school days, the absence will be considered unexcused if a note has not been received by the school office.
2. If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school attendance office within three days of the absence for the appointment-day absence to be considered “medical.”
3. If a student is absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness, upon return to school, the student must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence.
4. Should the student develop a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s absence from school to determine whether the absence or absences will be excused or unexcused.
Attendance notes are processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted. As a courtesy, on the day of the absence, a parent may receive an automated phone call from the district in regard to the absence.
utilization of cameras for surveillance, automated doors for controlled access, a district-wide digital radio system for effective communication, and severe weather shelters. These initiatives work in tandem to enhance the overall safety of the schools within the district. To learn more about Safety & Security, please visit wylieisd.net/safety
In Wylie ISD, junior high and high school campuses benefit from the presence of School Resource Officers (SROs) employed by the Wylie Police Department. Each junior high has one SRO, while Wylie East and Wylie High each have two. Intermediate and elementary campuses are
Wylie ISD follows the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which is a set of clear, consistent safety procedures used across all campuses and with first responders. Developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, the SRP helps ensure everyone knows what to do in an emergency. Each response is simple, easy to follow, and designed to protect students and staff in situations ranging from medical incidents to severe weather. By providing clear instructions and a common language, it allows for a quick, coordinated response in any situation. SRP actions are practiced regularly through training and drills, and when one is activated, the school communicates with families. Please take a moment to review these five actions and talk with your student about what they mean.
What it means: Everyone stays in their classroom or current area; hallways are kept clear.
Why we use it: To manage situations like a medical emergency or hallway disturbance.
Example: If a student experiences a medical emergency just before class ends, a “Hold” keeps students and staff in classrooms as the bell rings, giving first responders and administrators uninterrupted access to reach the student quickly and manage the situation. Inside the classroom, it’s business as usual—students keep learning and teachers keep teaching—they just don’t leave the room. Once the situation is resolved, the school returns to normal movement. Families will be notified if a Hold is initiated.
What it means: All outside doors are locked; school continues as normal inside.
Why we use it: There’s something happening outside the school, such as police activity nearby.
Example: If police are searching for someone in the neighborhood, we may go into “Secure” as a precaution. Instruction and regular operations continue indoors. Families will be notified and updated when the situation is resolved.
What it means: There is a threat inside the building.
Why we use it: To protect against intruders, reports of weapons, or other serious dangers.
Example: During a lockdown, doors are locked, lights are off, and everyone stays quiet and out of sight. Families are notified quickly and kept informed with frequent updates. Please do not come to the school during a lockdown, as it can interfere with emergency response.
continued on pg. 40
What it means: Everyone leaves the building or area in an organized way.
Why we use it: There’s a need to get to a safer location, such as in case of smoke or fire.
Example: If smoke is detected in the building, students and staff evacuate to a safe area. Families will be notified of the reason and updated once it’s safe to return.
What it means: Everyone moves to a safe space inside the building.
Why we use it: For protection from severe weather or hazardous conditions.
Example: During a tornado warning, students and staff shelter in designated areas. Families are informed and will receive updates until the all-clear is given.
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
CoMMoN lANGUAGE
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an allhazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

In Spring 2023, Wylie ISD implemented the “Close, Click, Check” initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to safety and security. The initiative is represented by stickers placed on the exterior doors of schools and buildings within the district. The purpose of this slogan is to remind everyone, including students, staff, families, and visitors, that maintaining a safe environment requires collective effort. It emphasizes the importance of keeping exterior doors closed, visitors checking in at the front office, and preventing unauthorized access by not allowing others to enter without following proper procedures.
The three steps of “Close, Click, Check” serve as guidelines for individuals entering or exiting school premises. First, it is important to close the exterior door behind you, ensuring that it is securely shut. Second, listen for the audible click that indicates the door is properly locked. Finally, take a moment to visually check that the door is securely latched.
By following these simple steps, the Wylie ISD community can contribute to maintaining a secure school environment. So, the next time you visit a campus, remember to (1) close the door, (2) make sure you hear a ‘click,’ and (3) check that the door is securely latched.

Wylie ISD takes pride in providing topnotch transportation services to our community. Beginning Aug. 1, bus routes will be available for viewing on our website at wylieisd.net/busroutes
We strongly encourage families to check their routes and schedules, as there may have been changes since the previous year.
Below, you will find essential details concerning bus transportation in Wylie ISD. Should you have any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Transportation Department at 972-429-2300.
All elementary students will receive colored wristbands that match their bus routes.
Students in K-2 are required to have a parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop to take them home.
Here Comes the Bus is an easy-to-use website and mobile device app that enables parents to view the real-time location of their child’s school bus on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Email alerts and push notifications help parents send their students to the bus stop at just the right time.
If a parent or guardian feels their children can walk home unattended, they must email jessie.murphy@ wylieisd.net stating that they give permission. This note will be attached to the child’s route.
In the event there is no parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop and no note is attached to the student’s information, the child is returned to the campus.
This application can be viewed on any smartphone by entering the student’s ID and an account number provided by the school district. Getting started is easy! Visit the Here Comes the Bus website and use the Wylie ISD District Code: 29273. Create your parent account using the same email address that is in Skyward Family Access and you are done.
Your bus-riding students will automatically be associated with your account so you can track their bus.

Wylie ISD places a strong emphasis on Fine Arts education, ensuring its integration from the early years of kindergarten all the way through the 12th grade. The journey begins in elementary, where every student receives instruction from certified and degreed music specialists. As students progress, they are presented with diverse opportunities to explore their passions.
Starting in sixth grade, students have the freedom to select from an array of Fine Arts electives, including Art, Choir, Band, or Orchestra. In the seventh grade, Theatre Arts is introduced as an additional choice for students seeking creative expression. As students advance to grades 9-12, an extensive range of courses becomes available, encompassing Band, Choir, Orchestra, Dance, Visual Art, and Theatre.
Visit our Fine Arts page to learn more and to find a calendar of upcoming events.
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Wylie ISD is dedicated to preparing students for success and facilitating smooth transitions to their future endeavors. We strive to offer every student the chance to enroll in CTE courses that are meaningful, relevant, and aligned with rigorous academic standards, as well as the demands of real-world industries. In Wylie ISD, we are committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their chosen paths and navigate the ever-evolving challenges of the modern world.
Wylie ISD offers a diverse range of CTE courses at both high school campuses. These courses provide students with an enriching learning experience that is firmly rooted in real-world applications and practical settings.

In Wylie ISD, it’s important to us that parents and families join their students for special school programs and celebrations. To help manage the large number of parents who attend school events during the day, Wylie ISD has implemented a TSAstyle pre-screen system. Our goal is to reduce lines and wait times on these days. Wylie ISD Pre-Check ID cards are available for parents of students at all grade levels. For more information, please click here, or to request an ID, please click here.
Joley Martin, District Family Liaison, works to connect families with a variety of community resources to meet their needs. For more information, contact Joley at joley.martin@wylieisd.net or 972-429-2996.
Wylie ISD will continue with its 1:1 Chromebook take-home program for the 2025-26 school year. Each student in grades 5-12 at the intermediate, junior high and high school campuses will receive a Chromebook to be used both at school and at home for the entire school year.
At the completion of the school year, students will turn in their Chromebooks where they will be cleaned, updated, and checked for necessary repairs. At the high schools, students will receive the same Chromebook from year to year. For additional information, please click here.
Family Access provides parents access to our student information system for secure access to student schedules, progress reports, grades, discipline, attendance, and food service. This is a secure web-based application that promotes more effective communication between the district and our parents by pushing “real-time” information.
From the Skyward family access login screen click the “Forgot your Login/Password?” link, enter your email address or username. A temporary password reset link will be emailed to you.
Please complete annual online registration by Sept. 2, 2025.
As part of our continued commitment to student safety, Wylie ISD is excited to introduce Qustodio, a new tool that supports healthy online habits and digital well-being.
Qustodio is replacing BARK for Schools as our district’s digital monitoring service. While BARK helped us detect potential safety concerns like cyberbullying, threats of violence, or other harmful content, Qustodio takes things a step further by giving families more access into their child’s online activity on district devices.
Monitor your child’s screen time on their school-issued device
See the websites, apps, and online activity your child accesses during the school day
Access expert tips and tools through Wylie ISD’s Online Safety Hub
Monitor one personal device at home for free, with the option to upgrade and monitor more personal devices if desired (not required)
This new service works alongside our existing internet filters and is designed to help families and schools work together to support safe and responsible tech use, both in and out of the classroom.
You’ll soon receive an email from Qustodio with instructions on how to activate your free account. You can also get started now by visiting www.qustodio.com/my-school and registering using the same email address you have on file with the district.
We’re proud to partner with families in creating a safer digital environment for our students.
