Wylie ISD Student Services is responsible for a range of essential functions that contribute to the overall well-being and success of students. The department provides comprehensive assistance and support for students and families that is achieved through close coordination with district leadership and campus administration. Areas of oversight include:
Please visit the Wylie ISD website for up-to-date information on Dress Code, helpful guides and documents including the Student Handbooks, Student Code of Conduct and more.
Wylie ISD prioritizes the welfare of students, with a philosophy rooted in the belief that individual teachers are the most dynamic force in the educational process.
Effective teacher-student relationships are essential for maintaining proper classroom decorum and creating an environment conducive to learning. Discipline plays a crucial role in this process, aiding students in maturing and becoming productive members of society.
The Student Services department systematically aligns initiatives, resources, services, and supports to promote psychological safety,
positive behavior, and learning. It is essential for all students to feel safe, supported, and connected to succeed academically.
Discipline, when administered effectively, serves the purpose of changing behavior. When students violate the Student Code of Conduct, it presents an opportunity for educators to guide them in reflecting on their actions and understanding their impact on the educational environment. By consistently responding to misbehavior with a focus on relationships, personal accountability, and fair, equitable consequences, we support all students in their educational journey, developing an environment where they can thrive.
View the Student Code of Conduct.
We want to ensure that all students come to school dressed and groomed in a clean and neat manner, avoiding anything that could be disruptive or pose a safety risk. While students and parents have the freedom to choose personal dress and grooming styles for students, they must follow the general guidelines set by the Board policies and adhere to the dress codes outlined in the student handbooks. These guidelines help maintain a positive and focused learning environment for everyone. If you have any questions about the dress code, please refer to the dress code guidelines or contact your school principal for clarification.

Bullying is not tolerated in Wylie ISD. If you or your student need to report incidents of bullying, please visit our website at wylieisd.net/bullying. Remember, reporting bullying is an essential step in upholding our shared values and ensuring the well-being of our students. Together, we can work towards preventing and addressing bullying effectively.
Below is a quick overview of the Wylie ISD School Attendance/Absence Policies. It is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbook located on the Wylie ISD website. The district’s attendance policy can be found starting on page 33 of the Student Handbook.
1. When a student returns from an absence, the student must bring a parent-signed note to the attendance office that describes the reason for the absence or the parent may enter the reason for the absence in Skyward Parent Access. After three school days, the absence will be considered unexcused if a note has not been received by the school office.
2. If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school attendance office within three days of the absence for the appointment-day absence to be considered “medical.”
3. If a student is absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness, upon return to school, the student must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence.
4. Should the student develop a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s absence from school to determine whether the absence or absences will be excused or unexcused.
Attendance notes are processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted. As a courtesy, on the day of the absence, a parent may receive an automated phone call from the district in regard to the absence.
Ensuring the safety and security of students and staff is Wylie ISD’s top priority. The district has implemented state-ofthe-art technologies and procedures to create a secure and protected learning environment. These measures include the utilization of cameras for surveillance, automated doors for controlled access, a district-wide digital radio system for effective communication, and severe weather shelters. These initiatives work in tandem to enhance the overall safety of the schools within the district. To learn more about Safety & Security, please visit wylieisd.net/safety
In Wylie ISD, junior high and high school campuses benefit from the presence of School Resource Officers (SROs) employed by the Wylie Police Department. Each junior high has one SRO, while Wylie East and Wylie High each have two. Intermediate and elementary campuses are served by armed security guards, and the two elementary schools in Sachse share an SRO from the Sachse Police Department in addition to their armed guard. Additionally, both high schools are each supported by three unarmed security guards. These dedicated officers and guards work diligently to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
Visit the SRO webpage to learn more about the Wylie ISD School Resource Officers.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is a set of clear and consistent guidelines designed to enhance the safety and security of schools during emergency situations. It provides a unified approach to emergency response, ensuring that all students, staff, and administrators understand and can quickly implement the necessary actions.
The SRP was developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on school safety. It emphasizes the use of simple and easy-to-remember responses to different types of emergencies, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, lockdowns, and evacuations.
A Hold is used when there is a situation occurring in the school that requires students and staff to remain in their classrooms or out of the hallways. Holds may be initiated during a medical emergency or if there is an altercation or disturbance in a hallway.
Hold Example: A student is sitting in class and experiences a seizure a few minutes before the bell rings. Paramedics are called and a campus administrator initiates a “hold” to ensure the first responders can reach the student quickly and provide them with the medical attention needed. During this time, students and staff remain in their classrooms and out of the hallways. Once the medical situation is resolved, the school resumes its regular schedule. Communication to families will typically state that due to a medical emergency involving a student/staff member, the school has activated a “hold.” Updates will be provided as needed.
Implemented when there is a threat outside the school building. During a secure, all exterior doors are locked, and normal activities continue inside the building.
Secure Example: An armed individual burglarizes a home in the neighborhood adjacent to a school. When police respond to the crime, the suspect flees the scene. To ensure the safety of students and staff, police notify the school to activate “secure” as a precaution while they search for the suspect. All exterior doors remain locked, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, and usual school activities continue. The responding police agency will notify the school when it is safe to lift the “secure.” Communication to families will typically state that due to police activity in the area, the school has entered into “secure” until an all-clear is received from law enforcement. Updates will be provided as needed.
Lockdown is activated when there is a threat inside the school building. Students and staff quickly secure themselves in locked rooms, turn off lights, remain quiet, and prepare to hide or defend if necessary.
Lockdown Example: There is an intruder or an active assailant inside the school, there’s a report of a weapon, or there’s a dangerous animal inside the building. Communication to families will typically state that a “lockdown” has been initiated and more details will be provided as they become available. Families can expect frequent updates via all communication platforms in this situation. It is crucial that families do not come to the school if a lockdown is initiated.
continued on p. 40
Used to move students and staff from one location to a predetermined safe area. Evacuations may be conducted in response to a fire, hazardous materials incident, or other emergencies.
Evacuate Example: There is smoke inside the cafeteria or a visible fire. Communication to families will typically state that the school has been evacuated due to smoke/odor/ fire. Students and staff will remain outside until the fire department provides an all-clear. Updates will be provided to families as needed.
Implemented in response to severe weather or environmental hazards. Students and staff seek shelter in designated areas within the building to protect themselves from potential harm.
Shelter Example: There is a tornado warning for the county, and emergency officials have advised that our schools shelter-in-place.. Communication to families will typically state that the school is sheltering in place due to inclement weather. Students and staff will shelter until the school receives an all-clear from the district. Updates will be provided to families as needed.
The Standard Response Protocol is designed to be flexible and adaptable to different emergency scenarios. By providing clear instructions and a common language, it enables a coordinated and efficient response to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the school community. Training, drills, and ongoing communication are integral parts of implementing the SRP effectively.
Schools provide communication when one of the SRP actions is activated. Please take a moment to review SRP and have a conversation with your student about the five components and what they mean.
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
CoMMoN lANGUAGE
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an allhazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

In Spring 2023, Wylie ISD implemented the “Close, Click, Check” initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to safety and security. The initiative is represented by stickers placed on the exterior doors of schools and buildings within the district.
The purpose of this slogan is to remind everyone, including students, staff, families, and visitors, that maintaining a safe environment requires collective effort. It emphasizes the importance of keeping exterior doors closed, visitors checking in at the front office, and preventing unauthorized access by not allowing others to enter without following proper procedures.
The three steps of “Close, Click, Check”
serve as guidelines for individuals entering or exiting school premises. First, it is important to close the exterior door behind you, ensuring that it is securely shut. Second, listen for the audible click that indicates the door is properly locked. Finally, take a moment to visually check that the door is securely latched.
By following these simple steps, the Wylie ISD community can contribute to maintaining a secure school environment. So, the next time you visit a campus, remember to (1) close the door, (2) make sure you hear a ‘click,’ and (3) check that the door is securely latched.
Tip411 is an internet-based communication system designed to bolster student safety by providing a platform for swift and anonymous reporting of suspicious or criminal behavior within schools. This tool enables students and concerned citizens to report such incidents promptly, without revealing their identities. By offering a secure and confidential channel for reporting, Tip411 empowers individuals to contribute to a safer school environment.
*Tip411 should not be used for emergency purposes – call 911 for emergencies.*
Additionally, parents and students are highly encouraged to watch two important videos that highlight the significance of not making threats. These educational videos provide valuable insights into the serious consequences and impacts of making threats, helping to foster a safer and more responsible school community. The videos can be accessed by following these links: parent video and student video.
Wylie ISD takes pride in providing top-notch transportation services to our community. Beginning Aug. 1, bus routes will be available for viewing on our website at wylieisd.net/busroutes We strongly encourage families to check their routes and schedules, as there may have been changes since the previous year.
Below, you will find essential details concerning bus transportation in Wylie ISD. Should you have any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Transportation Department at 972-429-2300.
All elementary students will receive colored wristbands that match their bus routes.
Students in K-2 are required to have a parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop to take them home.
If a parent or guardian feels their children can walk home unattended, they must email jessie.murphy@ wylieisd.net stating that they give permission. This note will be attached to the child’s route.
In the event there is no parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop and no note is attached to the student’s information, the child is returned to the campus.
Here Comes the Bus is an easyto-use website and mobile device app that enables parents to view the real-time location of their child’s school bus on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Email alerts and push notifications help parents send their students to the bus stop at just the right time. This application can be viewed on any smartphone by entering the student’s ID and an account number provided by the school district. Getting started is easy! Visit the Here Comes the Bus website and use the Wylie ISD District Code: 29273. Create your parent account using the same email address that is in Skyward Family Access and you are done. Your bus-riding students will automatically be associated with your account so you can track their bus.
Students who live within two miles of their designated campuses are not eligible for transportation. See below for neighborhoods that may be affected. Please note, this list may not be exhaustive. For questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 972-429-2300.

Wylie ISD places a strong emphasis on Fine Arts education, ensuring its integration from the early years of kindergarten all the way through the 12th grade. The journey begins in elementary, where every student receives instruction from certified and degreed music specialists. As students progress, they are presented with diverse opportunities to explore their passions.
Starting in sixth grade, students have the freedom to select from an array of Fine Arts electives, including Art, Choir, Band, or Orchestra. In the seventh grade, Theatre Arts is introduced as an additional choice for students seeking creative expression. As students advance to grades 9-12, an extensive range of courses becomes available, encompassing Band, Choir, Orchestra, Dance, Visual Art, and Theatre.
Visit our Fine Arts page to learn more and to find a calendar of upcoming events.

When schools give students access to devices and online accounts, an incredible world of learning opportunities opens up — as well as potential dangers. Digital safety is critically important to Wylie ISD, which is why we are now using BARK for Schools to help us protect our students both online and in real life.
BARK monitors for signs of potential issues like:
Cyberbullying
Suicidal ideation
Sexual predators
Threats of violence And more
When possible dangers arise on school-issued accounts, BARK for Schools sends us alerts so we can address the situation in a timely manner. These alerts also give us insights that help us promote the wellness of the entire student body.
Kids use their school-issued accounts both at school and at home, and families are often in a better position to respond to urgent alerts after hours, on weekends, and during breaks. As soon as you opt in, you’ll be able to receive after-hours alerts if BARK detects potentially time-sensitive issues. Sign up and learn more on the BARK for Schools webpage.
