Welcome to Wylie ISD! We are a fast-growing school district located in the vibrant southern Collin County, just 24 miles northeast of Dallas. Encompassing an expansive 41 square miles, our district proudly serves the City of Wylie and the surrounding communities of Sachse, Murphy, Lucas, Lavon, and St. Paul.
With nearly 19,000 students, Wylie ISD ranks as the 73rd largest school district out of over 1,200 public school districts in Texas. Our commitment to providing a top-quality
education is unwavering, and we continuously strive to meet the unique needs of our diverse student body.
Within our district, you will discover 20 exceptional campuses. From our two 6A high schools and one alternative high school to our three junior high schools and three intermediate schools, all the way down to our 11 elementary campuses serving grades Pre-K through fourth, our schools provide the very best educational experience for all students.
At Wylie ISD, we firmly believe in the power of relationships and values-driven education. Our dedicated educators and staff work tirelessly to create a supportive environment where students can flourish academically and personally. We emphasize character development and encourage our students to become compassionate, responsible citizens who positively impact their communities. It’s the Wylie Way!
Thank you for choosing to be part of our family – we’re glad you’re here.
It’s no surprise that Wylie ISD continues to be one of the fastestgrowing school districts in Texas. This year, we are preparing to welcome hundreds of new families into our school community. We understand that increasing enrollment may raise concerns about capacity limits. Rest assured – we have a well-thought-out plan in place. Over the past few months, we have developed a master facilities plan that ensures every family will be accommodated with spacious, safe, and modern classrooms where students will continue to thrive. We invite our families to visit our Master Facilities Planning web page to learn more. A couple of years ago, we began publishing an annual back-toschool guide to help prepare our families for the school year ahead. In this year’s back-to-school guide, families will discover information covering a wide range of topics. From safety and security to athletics and fine arts, we are equipping families with everything they need to kick off the school year on the right track.
I also encourage our families to get involved. Wylie ISD campuses are supported by our amazing PTAs and booster clubs that keep parents and the community involved and ensure that all voices are heard and valued. We have some of the best supporters on the planet, and we invite you to become a member of these organizations and be a part of the excitement. You’ll find more information about the Wylie ISD Council of PTAs on pg. 52. Our district theme this year is “BOLD.” In Wylie ISD, being bold means courageously living our values. As they famously say in Star Trek, we hope to grow our kids to “boldly go where no ‘person’ has gone before.” We can’t wait to get started! Welcome back, and thank you for your unwavering support and partnership. It’s going to be a great year… the Wylie Way!
Our district is dedicated to providing an outstanding educational experience that empowers our students to excel beyond high school and attain lifelong success. This goal, a vision of our school board, drives our commitment to deliver excellence in education.
Wylie ISD grew by 646 students this past school year. The district and all eligible campuses earned an “A” rating from the Texas Education Agency. Wylie ISD is the only district with more than 10,000 students to have every campus and district receive an “A”. Every eligible Wylie ISD campus received at least one Distinction Designation. The Wylie ISD percentage of eligible distinctions earned has risen 20% over the past five years. Wylie ISD earned a Distinction Designation for Postsecondary Readiness, recognizing its place in the Top 25% of comparable districts.

At UIL, 38 groups (high school and junior high band, choir, and orchestra) received a 1st Division for their Concert performances and for their Sightreading performances.
Two high school students received Gold Seals at the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) contest.
At Wylie ISD, we believe in being BOLD in all we do. We BOLDY lead with our values. We teach our students to be BOLD in the classroom and on the stage, court and field. We BOLDLY approach our finances to ensure we do right by our taxpayers.
By being BOLD, we instill in our students our community’s values: respect, responsibility, caring, giving, grit, preparation, gratitude and celebration. Our goal is to graduate good kids who go out and do great things.

Not only are Wylie ISD families able to pre-purchase school supplies via the PTA fundraiser at the end of the previous school year, but the district is also excited to offer school supplies through TeacherLists. Through TeacherLists, families are given a clear list of needed supplies by school and grade level. To purchase from your preferred online retailer simply click the store icon and the list will be added to your shopping cart. Out-of-stock and unavailable items will be noted as well.
School supply lists for each campus can be found at wylieisd.net/schoolsupplies

Wylie ISD is proud to offer quality transportation for our community. Bus routes will go live Aug. 1 on wylieisd.net/busroutes. Families are encouraged to check their routes and schedules as they may have changed from the previous year.
Below, families will find important information regarding bus transportation in Wylie ISD. For any questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 972-429-2300.
All elementary students will receive colored wristbands that match their bus routes.
Students in K-2 are required to have a parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop to take them home.
If parents or guardians feel their children can walk home unattended, an email must be sent to jessie.murphy@wylieisd.net stating that they give permission. This note will be attached to the child’s route.
In the event there is no parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop and no note is attached to the student’s information, the child is returned to the campus.
Here Comes the Bus is an easy-to-use website and mobile device app that enables parents to view the real-time location of their child’s school bus on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Email alerts and push notifications help parents send their students to the bus stop at just the right time. This application can be viewed on any smartphone by entering the student’s ID and an account number provided by the school district. Getting started is easy! Visit the Here Comes the Bus website and use the Wylie ISD District Code: 29273. Create your parent account using the same email address that is in Skyward Family Access and you are done. Your busriding students will automatically be associated with your account so you can track their bus.
Students who live within two miles of their designated campuses are not eligible for transportation. See below for neighborhoods that may be affected. Please note, this list may not be exhaustive. For questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 972-429-2300.

Wylie ISD places a strong emphasis on Fine Arts education, ensuring its integration from the early years of kindergarten all the way through the 12th grade. The journey begins in elementary, where every student receives instruction from certified and degreed music specialists. As students progress, they are presented with diverse opportunities to explore their passions.
Starting in sixth grade, students have the freedom to select from an array of Fine Arts electives, including Art, Choir, Band, or Orchestra. In the seventh grade, Theatre Arts is introduced as an additional choice for students seeking creative expression. As students advance to grades 9-12, an extensive range of courses becomes available, encompassing Band, Choir, Orchestra, Dance, Visual Art, and Theatre.
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Wylie ISD is dedicated to preparing students for success in the 21st century and facilitating smooth transitions to their future endeavors. We strive to offer every student the chance to enroll in CTE courses that are meaningful, relevant, and aligned with rigorous academic standards, as well as the demands of real-world industries. In Wylie ISD, we are committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their chosen paths and navigate the ever-evolving challenges of the modern world.

Below is a quick overview of the Wylie ISD School Attendance/Absence Policies. It is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbook located on the Wylie ISD website. The district’s attendance policy can be found starting on page 33 of the Student Handbook.
1. When a student returns from an absence, the student must bring a parent-signed note to the attendance office that describes the reason for the absence or the parent may enter the reason for the absence in Skyward Parent Access. After three school days, the absence will be considered unexcused if a note has not been received by the school office.
2. If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school attendance office within three days of the absence for the absence on the day of the appointment to be considered “medical.”
3. If a student is absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness, upon return to school, the student must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence.
4. Should the student develop a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s absence from school to determine whether the absence or absences will be excused or unexcused.
Attendance notes are processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted. As a courtesy, on the day of the absence, a parent may receive an automated phone call from the district in regard to the absence.
Ensuring the safety and security of students and staff is Wylie ISD’s top priority. The district has implemented state-of-the-art technologies and procedures to create a secure and protected learning environment. These measures include the utilization of cameras for surveillance, automated doors for controlled access, a district-wide digital radio system for effective communication, and severe weather shelters. These initiatives work in tandem to enhance the overall safety of the schools within the district. To learn more about Safety & Security, please visit wylieisd.net/safety.
*New in 2023-24* With the passing of House Bill 3 in the 88th Legislature, every Wylie ISD campus will have an armed, uniformed security presence at all times during the school day.
Visit the SRO webpage to learn more about the Wylie ISD School Resource Officers.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is a set of clear and consistent guidelines designed to enhance the safety and security of schools during emergency situations. It provides a unified approach to emergency response, ensuring that all students, staff, and administrators understand and can quickly implement the necessary actions.
The SRP was developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on school safety. It emphasizes the use of simple and easy-to-remember responses to different types of emergencies, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, lockdowns, and evacuations.
Used when there is a situation occurring in the school that requires students and staff to remain in their classrooms or out of the hallways. Holds may be initiated during a medical emergency or if there is an altercation or disturbance in a hallway.
Hold Example: A student is sitting in class and experiences a seizure a few minutes before the bell rings. Paramedics are called and a campus administrator initiates a “hold” to ensure the first responders can reach the student quickly and provide them with the medical attention needed. During this time, students and staff remain in their classrooms and out of the hallways. Once the medical situation is resolved, the school resumes its regular schedule. Communication to families will typically state that due to a medical emergency involving a student/staff member, the school has activated a “hold.” Updates will be provided as needed.
Implemented when there is a threat outside the school building. During a secure, all exterior doors are locked, and normal activities continue inside the building.
Secure Example: An armed individual burglarizes a home in the neighborhood adjacent to a school. When police respond to the crime, the suspect flees the scene. To ensure the safety of students and staff, police notify the school to activate “secure” as a precaution while they search for the suspect. All exterior doors remain locked, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, and usual school activities continue. The responding police agency will notify the school when it is safe to lift the “secure.” Communication to families will typically state that due to police activity in the area, the school has entered into “secure” until an all-clear is received from law enforcement. Updates will be provided as needed.
Activated when there is a threat inside the school building. Students and staff quickly secure themselves in locked rooms, turn off lights, remain quiet, and prepare to hide or defend if necessary.
Lockdown Example: There is an intruder or an active assailant inside the school, there’s a report of a weapon, or there’s a dangerous animal inside the building. Communication to families will typically state that a “lockdown” has been initiated and more details will be provided as they become available. Families can expect frequent updates via all communication platforms in this situation. It is crucial that families do not come to the school if a lockdown is initiated.
continued on p. 46
continued from p. 45
Used to move students and staff from one location to a predetermined safe area. Evacuations may be conducted in response to a fire, hazardous materials incident, or other emergencies.
Evacuate Example: There is smoke inside the cafeteria or a visible fire. Communication to families will typically state that the school has been evacuated due to smoke/odor/fire. Students and staff will remain outside until the fire department provides an all-clear. Updates will be provided to families as needed.
Implemented in response to severe weather or environmental hazards. Students and staff seek shelter in designated areas within the building to protect themselves from potential harm.
Shelter Example: There is a tornado warning for the county, and emergency officials have advised that our schools shelterin-place.. Communication to families will typically state that the school is sheltering in place due to inclement weather. Students and staff will shelter until the school receives an all-clear from the district. Updates will be provided to families as needed.
The Standard Response Protocol is designed to be flexible and adaptable to different emergency scenarios. By providing clear instructions and a common language, it enables a coordinated and efficient response to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the school community. Training, drills, and ongoing communication are integral parts of implementing the SRP effectively.
Schools provide communication when one of the SRP actions is activated. Please take a moment to review SRP and have a conversation with your student about the five components and what they mean.
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an allhazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

Last spring, Wylie ISD implemented the “Close, Click, Check” initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to safety and security. The initiative is represented by stickers placed on the exterior doors of schools and buildings within the district. The purpose of this slogan is to remind everyone, including students, staff, families, and visitors, that maintaining a safe environment requires collective effort. It emphasizes the importance of keeping exterior doors closed, visitors checking in at the front office, and preventing unauthorized access by not allowing others to enter without following proper procedures.
The three steps of “Close, Click, Check” serve as guidelines for
individuals entering or exiting school premises. First, it is important to close the exterior door behind you, ensuring that it is securely shut. Second, listen for the audible click that indicates the door is properly locked. Finally, take a moment to visually check that the door is securely latched. By following these simple steps, the Wylie ISD community can contribute to maintaining a secure school environment. So, the next time you visit a campus, remember to (1) close the door, (2) make sure you hear a ‘click,’ and (3) check that the door is securely latched.
Check out the video below, which explains more.
Tip411 is an internet-based communication system designed to bolster student safety by providing a platform for swift and anonymous reporting of suspicious or criminal behavior within schools. This tool enables students and concerned citizens to report such incidents promptly, without revealing their identities. By offering a secure and confidential channel for reporting, Tip411 empowers individuals to contribute to a safer school environment.
*Tip411 should not be used for emergency purposes – call 911 for emergencies.*
