President ’s Message The 2015 Club Board met on February 19th with a full agenda of work. The new committees have been formed and chairs of each committee elected. There are a lot of ideas to enhance the Club’s activities and several recommendations on what can be accomplished to make the Club experience enjoyable. The membership drive as I am sure you know is off and running full speed. The Membership Committee has set goals and a reward system to encourage members to participate. We have had an excellent response in just a few days and would like to have a full membership well before the end of June. The House Committee has met and made recommendations on changes in dining menu to a la cart pricing. The continued increase in cost has required some price adjustments on the menu. The Board, at the recommendation of the Committee, has changed Club policy on credit and debit card usage for dining. The Club will now accept cards for dining and bar payment from nonmembers. This will allow non-members to pay for dining and encourage members to invite their friends to the Club experience without feeling obligated to pay for meals and drinks. The Golf Committee has recommended some changes in pricing for guest and family member fees, which the Board approved. The addition is to help off-set the cost of carts, similar to other clubs. There will be some changes to the scheduling system on Saturday to allow more usage of the course and allow the maintenance crew time to mow without interruption. The Board continues to be very much aware of the membership numbers which affect the financial well being of the Club. Today we are in good financial condition and it is our intent to strengthen the Club thru full membership and enhance the Club experience and enjoyment for all members. I would like to encourage more usage of the Club by all members. The spring season is just around the corner. The staff and Board will make every effort to make the Club the best in the Northwest. Don Harwood, Board President

From the Kitchen The largest challenge of producing meals for several outlets is doing it from one kitchen. The complexity of simultaneously preparing food for pool service, the lounge, formal and informal dining rooms as well as banquets is the significant difference between our club and small venue restaurants. In an effort to keep up with times, the club will be implementing a la carte service for our dinner menu. The only change in this transition is that the side soup or salad will no longer be included in your meal price and will be charged separately from your entree. Along with our standard house salad of mixed greens with cherry tomatoes and pickled onions, another petite salad will be offered that pairs ingredients that are appropriate with the season. With full support from the House Committee and the Board of Directors, this change will take place March 1st. With spring quickly approaching, I will also be adjusting a few menu items to compliment the season. I hope to see you out at your Club very soon. Mike Crimins, Executive Chef

General Managers Report The six new Board Members elected by the stockholders and announced at the Annual Meeting of the Membership are Jim Abajian (Membership), Bill Fleenor (Finance), Tim Larkin (Tournament), Greg Pepin (Greens), Ronnie Smith (Golf) and Jim Wilson Jr. (Swim/Social). They join this year’s President Don Harwood, Annette Bergevin (House), Christie Klundt (Tennis) and Gregg Loney as Past-President. After the new Board elected Don Harwood as President, they then elected Bill Fleenor as Vice-President and appointed John Patterson as Secretary/Treasurer. The “Membership Drive of 2015” that lowers the Regular Membership initiation fee from $5,000 to $2,000 during the four months of March -- June is already heating up! The Club has already accepted 6 new Regulars, a Special and one Social Member who will begin their memberships March 1st, and have a list of 8 individuals who have said they will join within the month. So continue to encourage your family, friends and business associates to join the Club this spring to take advantage of the reduced initiation fee. The Club has started its own “March Madness”! Everyone can join in on the Madness as the entire month of March is “Free Guest Month” on the golf course! That’s right…bring all your guests to the course for free golf during the entire month of March and then sign their membership application before the Membership Drive ends June 30th. It just doesn’t get any easier to join the Club as a Regular Member than now as the initiation fee is only $1,000 at time of acceptance then the other $1,000 isn’t due until February of 2016 with no interest being charged. For those new Special Members under age 36, it’s a $500 initiation fee at time of joining with the remaining $1,500 due when they accept Regular Membership upon turning 36 years of age. And for Social Members, it’s a one-time $500 charge at time of joining thus completing their initiation fee. If any Social Member is looking to transfer to Regular Membership during the Membership Drive, they may pay $500 upon transferring with the remaining $1,000 due in February of 2016 also with no interest. New to the Club this year: Acceptance of Credit Cards in the Restaurant and Lounge for non-members. Members will now be allowed to use a Credit Card through the office to pay their monthly account. A 3% service fee will be added to all Credit Card transactions. Newly designed Club Website-- WallaWallaCountryClub.com Ability to make dining reservations on-line

The “Hole-in-One Club” has been a tradition at the Club for the past 346 Aces made by men and the past 73 A ces made by women. It was 40 years ago that the “Hole-in-One Club” began at the Walla Walla Country Club with the members of this “Club” scoring 419 hole-in-ones here at the Club. When an A ce is scored, everyone in the “Hole-in-One” program is charged $5 each with $4 going to the Club to cover the cost of the drink that everyone just earned while the person scoring the A ce in the “Hole-in-One Club” receives a dollar from everyone in this program. It’s a win-win program, so stop by the Office and sign-up to receive your own “Hole-in-One” card and pad your wallet when a good shot takes that perfect bounce and finds the bottom of the cup…odds are it will happen to all of us! “Wine Wednesdays” are such a big hit that the Club will be starting “Wine Saturdays” beginning the first Saturday in March which is March 7th! “Wine Saturdays” will be ½ price Wine with dinner, but Club functions such as tournaments, dances and events plus private parties will be excluded from the half priced Wine. Additionally, Thursdays beginning in March will become known as “Guest Thursdays”. Bring a non-member to dinner and everyone at your table will enjoy ½ price Cocktails! Once again, Club functions and private parties will be excluded from the half price Cocktails when dining with a guest. So this year all our members can enjoy ½ price Wine on Wednesdays and Saturdays and ½ price Cocktails on Thursdays when you bring a guest! Enjoy these nice incentives while dining at the Club this year! Watch for further notices of “Kids’ Camp” at the Club. We are committed to offer 4 one-week camps during the month of July for children, grandchildren and any interested children of non-members between the ages of 4-10. KE Camps have provided exceptional children’s summer camps for country club Members and Guests since 1999. The highly qualified professional staff is attentive to the needs of each and every child and parents. Besides golf, tennis and swimming, activities such as martial arts, kids’ fitness, fun with foods, community service, kids’ yoga, athletic large group games, arts and crafts and super science projects are offered weekly. Children may sign-up for one week at a time or all 4 weeks if they wish. Clubs across the country are contracting with KE Camps to provide all aspects of these camps. So if you’re looking for a week long camp for your child to attend, check out KE Camps on the internet and read their forthcoming media blitz. All the information we’ve heard from other clubs has been extremely complimentary of the entire day camp experience provided by KE Camps! Jeffrey C. Thomas, General Manager

IMPORTANT Changes in Tee Times this Spring Please be aware of the current change on Wednesdays and Saturday tee times. The tee times on both of these days will run from 7:00am until 7:00pm off the number one tee with Men's Day from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Members may play in other tee times before and after Men's Day but keep in mind if you are a slower player please avoid the early morning times as it will slow down the golf course for the entire day. Parents with small children or young juniors or beginning golfers don't forget about Sunday afternoon tee times from 2:00-5:00pm to play. This time is blocked off just for your use. The tee will be monitored and those members who do not complete nine holes in under 2 hours will be asked to speed up or find a time more suitable to play. This is a trial period for the months of April and May and will be re-evaluated in June. If you need help on making a tee time or finding a tee time best for you, please call the golf shop we will be happy to help you. Thank you for trying something new and different and for your patience while we work out what will work best for all the members.

Food Minimum Changes Monthly cycles for Dining Room monthly minimum expenditure will be changing on the 20th of January when the clubhouse reopens after its 2 week cleaning period. The new minimum cycles will end on the day of the month the “main’ member was born… example: Jim Abajian was born on the 11th day of his birthday month so his and Rhonda’s minimum cycle will run from the 12th of every month through the 11th of the following month.. The current minimum cycles will run through the 31st of December, then those “main” members whose birthdays are on the 19th of the month will begin their minimum cycle on the 20th of January and will end their cycle on 19th of February. Then the following day (January 21st), those born on the 20th of a month will begin their minimum cycle and will end their cycle on the 20th of February. It’s very simple, just remember to have spent your minimum of $45 no later than the day of the month of your birthday! Those who have birthdays later than the end of the month, will fall on the last day of the month. So if you were born on the 31st and there are only 30 days in the current month, your cycle would end on the 30th. Board of Directors

From the Golf Course With the warmer than normal temperatures in February, the course is somewhat ahead of schedule with grass beginning to grow, and already beginning to turn a brilliant green. It’s a good thing the maintenance staff has the equipment sharp and ready as we will be out on your course mowing areas very soon. The course appeared to go through the winter pretty well, with some areas in the rough receiving some damage from the cold spell we encountered. I am not too sure yet how much damage may have occurred to our ornamentals and trees with the November cold snap we went through. Time will tell.... Everyone knows that the DOC crew cleaned Stone Creek in the summer and the results were incredible. We continued to keep the cover cut down through the winter and had the DOC come back for a couple days and pick up all the leaves along the banks. I am not sure if the creek has ever looked this good in February! This is a very healthy, beautiful and environmentally friendly Stone Creek we have now. I hope everyone had a great winter and I am sure like myself, everyone can’t wait to get back out on their golf course! We are finishing some winter pruning and tree planting and are preparing for the upcoming golf season. Once again, we will be replacing and removing old asphalt paths throughout the course. The first path we will be replacing is from #10 green to #11 fairway. We will also be adding a short path on the right side of #4 and repairing the approaches to the bridges on #5 and #6. By using our heavy duty utility vehicles, we do not have to bring out the heavy concrete trucks which can cause severe damage from the sheer weight of these large trucks. Remember, we still might have some cold weather and frost in the upcoming month! Make sure before you go out on an early morning that the course is clear of frost and open for play. Enjoy the upcoming spring and I will see you on the course! Jeff Blanc, CGCS

Everyone had a great time at Parent / Child Dance!

Bocce Ball and Bean-Bag Toss “Bocce Ball” and “Bean-Bag-Toss”… anyone interested?! It would be great to start a Couples’ League of both Bocce Ball and Bean-Bag-Toss! These games can easily be played on the Blue Tee on #10, making it very convenient to enjoy an hors d’oeuvre and a glass of wine! And if these catch on, multiple sets can be ordered and played by members on an evening basis. Another great area for playing these games would be around the “chipping green” by the pool. Maybe we can warp this into a season ending “tournament”... just think…the “Bocce Ball” and “Bean-Bag-Toss” Champions of the Year are ???!!!
