Dear Friends for Life, Have you ever noticed that Christianity seems to be backward? At least it seems to be that way to the world. The world sees children as a hassle, an inconvenience, and a problem to be solved. Christianity sees children as a blessing from the Lord, an arrow in your quiver, and examples of simple faith. They aren’t something we just throw away because they’re inconvenient.

I really saw the paradox of Christianity when my son posted the following prayer on his Facebook page. You can see how upside down Christianity seems to be – and yet it so wonderfully depicts how we should live in this world.

At the North Georgia Pregnancy and Family Resource Center we see this “backward thinking” come alive in the lives of the families we serve. They so often see their lives in worldly terms – and it ruins their lives. Once they see how their worldly thinking affects them, their lives begin to change in wonderful ways.

But they’re not the only ones this paradox affects. The directors, counselors, staff, and volunteers who serve the families at the center also realize that except for the Grace of God, we are all doomed to failure, to ruin.

The excitement of being a follower of Christ and serving at the Center allows us to offer the hope, help, and healing that only the truths of Scripture offer. What’s more, we’re not only providing them with tangible help, but we’re privileged to love them, help them, pray for them, offer resources for their spiritual growth, and walk alongside them in their journey.

Our prayer is that this magazine would help all of us, no matter what season of life we’re in, realize that we can GLORY in our VALLEY – that we can see life upside down – because of the riches of the GRACE of GOD that are available to us.

Why Pregnancy Centers Play a Vital Role in Reducing Abortions

Pregnancy centers continue to save tens of thousands of lives each year – and the pro-abortion world sees the threat and is attacking viciously.

One example: In March 2018, the American Medical Association’s Journal of Ethics published an article entitled: “Why Crisis Pregnancy Centers Are Legal but Unethical.”

In that article, the authors offer broad, sweeping generalities but do not offer any evidence from unbiased sources. They also fail to say anything about the very real ethical issues surrounding abortion clinics. Nevertheless, some journalists spread around the one-sided attack, partly because it conforms to pro-abortion prejudice, and partly because few know that the AMA once stood by the Hippocratic Oath, which includes a prohibition on doctors promoting abortion.

Many doctors were involved, as well. Unlike today, the American Medical Association was a staunch opponent of abortion. It even dubbed the practice “unwarrantable destruction of human life.” It never would have published an article like the AMA did last year.

Why Are Pregnancy Centers So Successful?

Sadly, pro-abortion thinking now dominates the AMA, which realizes the massive threat that each pregnancy center presents to the pro-abortion agenda. Every day at pregnancy centers, dedicated professionals and volunteers influence men and women – almost all of them facing unplanned pregnancies or considering abortion – to choose life.

In the late 19th century, pro-life Americans fought what they called “the evil of the age” in two ways: Their movement had a political, educational, and social side, and a grassroots side.

The political arm tried and tries to prevent abortions through persuasive argument, focusing on the horrors of abortion, and seeking laws to regulate and eventually outlaw the murderous act.

Every time they succeed they’ve convinced one or two more people to change their view on the value of unborn children’s lives, and thereby on the abortion debate. It’s America’s best sustained grass-roots campaign since at least the 19th century – when an earlier pro-life campaign also made a difference.

Pregnancy centers, on the other hand, spoke and speak a message of hope and life into the men and women at the point of their life-and-death decisions.

They show each parent the value of the life they have created. Theirs is a person-to-person approach.

Changing an Abortion-Minded Culture to a Pro-Life Culture

As abortion began to decline after the Civil War, many states passed laws against abortion. Most local officials ignored them and prosecuted few abortionists. Eliminating abortion by law, while useful and important, is not as powerful a tool as many people believe. Inclining the hearts and minds of the people against it is a much more effective option.

The U.S. had an abortion epidemic from 1830 up to the Civil War. Sometimes literally blowing dust off stacks of old documents in the Library of Congress, I learned that abortion during that era was more frequent, in proportion to the U.S. population that totaled 30 million in 1860, than it is now. All that changed during the 50 years from 1860 to 1910, when the number of abortions in America, again in proportion to the population, declined by at least 50%. Why?

It was largely because of groups like our modern day pregnancy centers. Organizations like the WCTU (Women’s Christian Temperance Union), the YMCA and YWCA (Young Men's or Women's Christian Association), and the Salvation Army helped women who were at risk for abortions. They offered programs of education, refuge, and adoption. These programs were highly successful because they provided concern and care for the women, helped them avoid unwanted pregnancy, and walked with those already pregnant through difficulties so they wouldn’t kill their children.

Syndicated columnist Laura Hollis acknowledged the difference between the pregnancy centers and the political arm of the movement in the July 2, 2018 Boston Herald. Hollis wrote her op-ed piece in response to the recent Supreme Court decision in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra. This decision overturned California’s Reproductive FACT Act of 2015, which advocates claimed “was necessary to ‘protect’ women from ‘unlicensed’ centers.”

Her article showed how slanted media coverage labels pregnancy centers as “‘abortion rights opponents,’ rather than pro-life advocates.”

While pregnancy centers are clearly against abortion, their primary focus is not on opposing it politically, as some journalists want us to believe. Their primary focus is on each and every individual who comes through their doors for help. They are not trying to hinder those individuals’ right to choose: They are helping them make an informed choice. And the results are impressive.

Hollis explains: “For liberals, the real problem with pro-life clinics is not their licensure but their efficacy…. The vast majority of women who visit pro-life pregnancy centers decide not to have an abortion. The existence – and success – of these clinics threatens Big Abortion’s bottom line. For all the blather about being ‘pro-choice,’ abortion advocates

seem perennially perturbed by the number of women who choose life for their babies, rather than abortion.”

How You Can Help Parents Chose Life Every day pro-life centers encourage parents to choose life. They are winning the pro-choice battle.

Every life saved is an incalculable victory, but they are also having a cumulative effect on the culture simply by virtue of the number of people they have cared for – truly cared for – over the many years of the battle.

Add to the cumulative effect a generational effect.

Each mother who decides to have her baby will pass on her story to her child(ren). The multiplying effect is personal, powerful, and ongoing. By changing the minds and hearts of the people they serve, pregnancy centers are at the center of a cultural revolution that will have long-lasting effects.

Just as abortion spreads through institutions like Planned Parenthood, more people are choosing life through the work of pregnancy centers around the country. That’s why it’s time for all Americans who see that life starts at conception to support, volunteer in, and promote their local pregnancy centers. The more people that do so, the faster we’ll see our culture stop the killing of babies – regardless of what the politicians and courts do.

Interview With State Senator From North Georgia Who Helped Pass the “Heartbeat” Bill Within two months of New York passing its law expanding abortion-rights, Georgia passed a bill that went the opposite direction. HB 481, which significantly limits abortion rights, passed the state legislature on March 29, 2019.

Georgia’s “heartbeat” bill, as it is known, prohibits abortion once a heartbeat is detected by a doctor.

This typically happens around six weeks into a pregnancy. The bill is a huge victory for those of us who are fighting to protect the lives of innocent children.

North Georgia State Senator Steve Gooch was one of the lawmakers who was eager to support the bill. As a supporter of the North Georgia Pregnancy Center, Senator Gooch was gracious enough to speak with the us about his experience with the passage of the bill.

Senator Gooch was thrilled about the legislation. He said, “We had the opportunity to save hundreds of thousands of unborn children. So this was probably the best vote I’ve taken in the nine years that I’ve been in the Senate. I truly believe that this was a vote that will go down as one of the most important in the history of Georgia, one I’m proud to be a part of.”

Georgia’s bill does have a few exceptions for rape or incest (when the woman has filed a police report) and if the mother’s life is in danger or when the fetus would be unable to live after birth. Even with these

rare exceptions, Senator Gooch was glad to see that this new law is now one of the strictest in the nation.

Because of this, Senator Gooch “didn’t hesitate for a moment to vote for the bill. It truly will save the lives of unborn children. Too many people use abortion as a means of birth control, and this bill limits the use of abortion to very specific and rare instances.”

Some pro-life advocates didn’t think the bill went far enough. But thankfully this new law will protect the lives of almost all unborn children in Georgia.

We’re thankful for the many pro-life legislators like Senator Gooch who were brave enough to stand up for the lives of the unborn. The media spotlight on Georgia before, during, and after the vote brought voices from Hollywood who vowed to boycott Georgia because of the heartbeat bill.

But Governor Kemp, Steve Gooch, and the others who passed this bill know that the lives of these babies are worth far more than money.

The heartbeat bill will undoubtedly face many legal challenges, so we need to be in prayer that the Lord would enable this law to stand up through the courts and continue to save lives.

Justice Aborted New laws turn their back on the unborn. What is behind the new laws and the new fights over abortion?

Many people around the country were shocked by the news on January 22, 2019 That fateful day was the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion in all 50 states. But in 2019, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took abortion rights to an all-new low.

That’s the day Governor Cuomo signed a bill into law establishing broad protections to the right to abortion. The new law: • Removed the unborn from all considerations in criminal prosecutions • Eased restrictions on who was allowed to perform abortions to include nurse practitioners and registered nurses in certain situations • Protected abortion access into the third trimester up to birth.

New York wasn’t the only state to pass such legislation. Virginia, Vermont, and Illinois quickly began the process of passing similar legislation in the days following. Virginia Governor Ralph Northum defended a Virginia State representative’s proposed bill to protect abortion up to and during child birth. He suggested that if a child was born alive during an abortion, then the doctors would make the child comfortable – usually understood as placing the dying child in a warming blanket – while they had a conversation with the mother about what to do from there. Presumably the conversation would be about whether to allow the child to die of neglect.

But why was there so much action in state legislatures around abortion. Did all of this come out of nowhere?

Abortion supporters are afraid Roe v. Wade might be overturned. President Donald Trump has appointed two Supreme Court justices.

Neal Gorsuch filled the seat vacated by the death of Antonin Scalia, and Brett Kavanaugh filled the vacancy left when Anthony Kennedy retired. Anthony Kennedy’s seat, as the swing vote between the four conservatives (Roberts, Gorsuch, Alito, and Thomas) and the four progressives (Ginsberg, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Breyer) was the most powerful seat in government. It is clear that there are efforts from the left to woo Chief Justice Roberts to fill the Kennedy position of moderating the court. Failing to do so leaves Roe/Doe/Casey vulnerable in a manner it has not been in nearly 30 years.

However, overturning Roe does not mean abortion becomes illegal. It simply means that abortion laws return to the states to decide abortion law for themselves. If that happens, there will be no unified approach to abortion throughout the United States. Facing the real possibility of an America without Roe, the states wishing to protect access to abortion, as it currently exists, are scrambling to put the legal structure in place.

This creates the rare opportunity to force them to defend the letter of the law. We can’t be squeamish now. We cannot be polite now.

In this moment we must confront the ugliness of abortion without apology. The more people know about abortion, the more they tend to favor laws restricting it.

The Shocking Truth About the Morning After Pill Walk into any drugstore or pharmacy and for $35 you can buy the “morning after pill.”

You don’t need a prescription. You don't need an ID. And, if you’re a minor, you don’t need parental approval. This wide open access to the morning after pill has created another sexual revolution among our teenagers. Girls think they no longer have to worry about getting pregnant from a one-night stand or a “fling.” So the “free love” of the 1960s has come full circle, with teenagers sleeping around at an alarming rate.

This is shocking to parents like Anon. She’s the mother of a 17-year-old daughter. When she finally talked to her daughter about her sex partners, she was disturbed to find out that her daughter had already slept with nine different boys. Anon said in an online forum, “She told me that this was normal and that most of her friends are in double figures (out of the friends she was at school with, she is one of the oldest – a lot of them haven't turned 17 yet). I’ll be honest, I didn’t think she had been with that many partners – I knew of three or four. She said that one of her friends has been with more than 20.”

Anon’s daughter isn’t alone. Dr. Leslie Kantor, Vice President of Education at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “By the time they are seniors in high school, most U.S. teens will be sexually active.” Many girls become sexually active as early as age 12. One girl discussed in the aforementioned forum was 14 and she had “lost count” of her sexual partners.

While not all teens are this sexually active, it’s clear the social stigma of “sleeping around” has disappeared from our teen culture.

Of those who don’t sleep around, a recent survey found that the main reason they avoid having sex is that they don’t want to get pregnant (or, for the boys, they don’t want to get a girl pregnant). The number of these teens is dropping – largely due to the easy access to the morning after pill.

The morning after pill is the drug levonorgestrel.

This is a high-dose progestin hormone pill that will prevent a pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. It prevents the pregnancy in one of three ways. It can prevent the release of an egg if taken prior to ovulation. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker, which helps prevent sperm from reaching the egg. And, it changes the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg.

While most abortion advocates say the pill is not an abortive pill, the last method of prevention does destroy a fertilized egg. For those who believe life begins at conception, this is an abortion.

Levonorgestrel is the same hormone used in many birth control pills that women take regularly.

However, the morning after pill is a much higher dose of the hormone. And with that higher dose come more potential side effects.

WebMD says this “emergency contraception should not be used as a routine method of birth control.” The site also lists possible side effects to include nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, menstrual changes, dizziness, breast tenderness, and vomiting. However, these are only the shortterm side effects of the hormone.

One article in the British Medical Journal link the hormone to life-long autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphosphlipid syndrome, and increased risks of several cancers, including breast cancer. Other studies have found that extensive use of the morning after pill can cause significant weight gain (on average 15 pounds), clinical depression, ovarian cyst enlargement, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, respiratory disorders, increased risk of ectopic pregnancy, bulimia, anorexia, and death.

Most teenagers who take this drug have no knowledge of these risks. And, since they don’t have to talk to a pharmacist to purchase the drug, no one is going to tell them. In fact, most websites – the primary source of information for teenagers – talk about how safe these drugs are.

The devastation the morning after pill is going to have on teenagers doesn’t just end with potential health risks. The pill isn’t guaranteed to prevent pregnancy. In fact, it’s much less effective at preventing pregnancy compared to regular contraception. If taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex, the drug is 95% effective. In other words, 5 out of every 100 girls will still become pregnant after taking the pill. If taken between

24 and 72 hours after sex, the percentage drops to 89% effectiveness. So 11 out of 100 girls will become pregnant.

Does the morning after pill lower the number of pregnancies among teens? This is best answered by showing just how excited Planned Parenthood is about the pill. They advertise the morning after pill throughout their websites. And they give misinformation – saying the pill can prevent pregnancy if taken within 5 days. Most medical sites are clear. It works within 72 hours, but the sooner you take it, the more effective it is.

So why would Planned Parenthood be so excited about the morning after pill? The answer is simple – it increases the number of teenagers who are having regular unprotected sex. And more teenagers having more unprotected sex will result in more unwanted pregnancies. Planned Parenthood has a vested interest in teenagers have sex and getting pregnant. It is the best way to ensure the number of abortions they conduct increases. While they say they want fewer unwanted pregnancies, their actions say otherwise.

Abortion advocates have long said, “We need to promote more contraception in schools, social programs, and the workplace” in order to reduce abortions. However, in the mid-1990s, the World Health Organization (WHO) began to realize that increased access to routine methods of contraception led to increased rates of abortion.

The WHO also discovered routine use of the morning after pill is “unsuitable primarily because of the high incidence of cycle disturbances.”

Even the notorious abortion promoter, David A Grimes, MD, acknowledged that the morning after pill has a serious negative effect on a woman’s menstrual cycle: “Repeated use of EC (emergency contraception) wreaks havoc on a woman’s cycle,” Grimes said, “so the resulting menstrual chaos acts as a powerful deterrent to using this method too often.” But studies have found that the “menstrual chaos” doesn’t deter girls from using the morning after pill. They consider it just part of the process.

The morning after pill is allowing kids to have more

and more unprotected sex. And they take the pill every time they have sexual intercourse. What’s more, since the drug is available to anyone at any time without a prescription, kids are taking 4-5 pills as a first dose. That’s 4-5 times the approved dose.

Then, many of them are taking another pill 12 hours later just to be sure. So they are taking up to 6 times the recommended dose of a hormone that can cause serious harm at the regular dose.

Even worse, the easy access to the morning after pill creates another huge problem for teenagers.

Their risk for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) goes up astronomically. Teenagers in particular would rather not deal with condoms or other contraceptives. Since the morning after pill allows them to avoid pregnancy, they don’t use any protection for STDs.

In August 2018, the Atlantic magazine said “the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that reported cases of three sexually transmitted diseases in the United States had reached an all-time high in 2017. Rates of gonorrhea rose by 67%, syphilis by 76%, and chlamydia by 21%, to a total of almost 2.3 million cases nationwide. According to the CDC, 2017 surpassed 2016 as the year with the most reported STD cases on record – and marked the fourth year in a row that STDs increased steeply in the U.S.” The packaging for the morning after pill doesn’t include any clear warnings of these risks and it doesn’t mention the abortion-inducing function of the drug. As a result, the need for pregnancy centers to help the women and girls who are the victims of both the pills and the abortions that accompany them has never been greater.

Truly Set Free!

An Abortion Healing Story By “Anne” I was born and raised in Atlanta in a very dysfunctional home. My dad went to church, my mom did not … although she said she was a Christian. I went to a Baptist church with my aunt and grandmother. The biggest thing that impacted me was my grandmother singing “Jesus Loves the Little Children….”

After I graduated high school, I went to Young Harris College for awhile. I soon quit and went to work for Georgia Power, and moved into an apartment. One of my best friends went to Emory Nursing School and I met "David"

through her. We had one date, we drank too much and had a one night fling.

At the time I was dating “John.” He was in medical school and we had been dating only about two months. That's when I found out I was pregnant from “David.” I went to a gynecologist and found out I was 10 weeks along. We did not have intercourse and never dreamed I could get pregnant just by fooling around.

When I told my parents, there was basically no reaction. Mom said, “We will work this out.”

My sister offered to raise my baby and mom had a solution for me go to a home for unwed mothers.

I told John I was pregnant when I was about three months along. He said, “If you don’t get an abortion, I won’t marry you.” John was not a believer either. I did want a future with John, and David (the father of the baby) was not going to have a future with me.

Up to this point, I could have avoided this abortion. Abortion was not legal in the early ‘70s. But my friend found a doctor in Maryland who would do this procedure. My sister and brother-in-law flew me to Washington DC for the abortion. Ironically, while we were in DC, we visited the Smithsonian Museum and the exhibit was the progression of Life in the Womb. This was another reminder that there is a life in the womb. The next day, we went to the doctor in Maryland.

The abortionist asked me, “Honey, are you sure you want to go through with this … you are three months along.” I was 23 years old, but felt like I was too young to be a mom. I was not a professing believer, but I always loved the Lord. However, I told the doctor, that I wanted to go through with the abortion, regardless. So the arrangements were made for the next morning.

During the procedure, I was not completely out, and I heard the nurse identifying the sex, examining the baby parts and I felt like I was in a fog. When I came to, I felt like I was in such an oppressive place. After the procedure, they took me straight to the airport to fly home. John met me at the airport and took me to my house.

We continued to date and, eventually, John and I got married. We never talked about the abortion. Fast forward to after we had our children, we started attending church. One Sunday, we both got saved and gave our lives to the Lord. After the Lord saved us, we both changed 180 degrees. I realized that it was only through Jesus that I could be healed from my abortion.

I was secretly hurting and struggling every day from my abortion. My husband and I never talked about it and I was having such a hard time loving and respecting him. When we had our first child, I told the Lord that I needed help being a mother, because I was so angry that my husband made me abort my first baby from the one-night fling.

I heard a lady speak about post-abortion syndrome in a small group. I had never even heard that this was even a thing. It truly touched my heart and I was broken. When she spoke, I felt every pain that she was talking about. I fell to the floor sobbing and she held me like a baby. She and I got together the next day and she had so much discernment about my life and she spoke as though she knew all about me. Then she said to me, “Anne, I don’t know what this is, but there is something like a vine that has grown inside of 15

you and choked the life out of you.” You need to cry out to Him and He will reveal what this is.

Long story short, I found out from one of my sisters that I had been sexually molested as a 2 year old and that opened the door to promiscuity in my life. My sister confirmed this to me and it explained a lot about my anger and discontent. When my mom found out that I knew about this molestation, she was so distraught that she almost abandoned me.

She was broken hearted.

But since I had gotten saved, I knew that the Lord could truly help me. I never doubted that He had forgiven me, but I could not even like myself and accept His forgiveness. But there is nowhere in Scripture that says we have to forgive ourselves, because we can’t.

But, because of His mercy and grace, we can accept His forgiveness of us.

For years, I was in agony. When I attended a study, “Forgiven and Set Free,” only then was I able to move forward. This study was written by a group of RNs from South Carolina. I was asked by a friend to facilitate this study, but when I read the material, it was then that JESUS TRULY SET ME FREE! It has been very difficult for me to share my story and the only

reason I share it now in writing is so that the Lord might be able to encourage a woman out there who may have suffered with an abortion, just like me.

I know that the Lord has forgiven me. I still often struggle with that decision that was made a long time ago. But the Lord has blessed me with a wonderful family and I trust that He can use me to make a difference in the lives of women who have never been able to confess and receive the forgiveness of Jesus.

Since then, the Lord has given me many opportunities to speak to other women regarding post abortion healing. I’m currently serving women in North Georgia and ministering hope and healing that only Christ can give. CAPH’N Carnival Brings More Families Into the Angel Baby Boutique The NGPC had the pleasure of hosting the CAPH’N Carnival this June.

In partnership with Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center and CARES, the carnival kicked off a two-month pilot program to provide free nutritious food to women and children in our community.

The carnival included games and activities for children, snacks, cooking demonstrations and the opportunity to talk with local physicians about health and dental needs.

Held on the same day as our Angel Babies Boutique Fill-A-Bag sale, we had families waiting at the door to get in and shop! The carnival brought awareness to our location and to the programs we offer at the center.

We were blessed to watch families enjoy some free, healthy fun.

As part of the CAPH’N program, parents who came into the center and took one of our eight classes on nutrition earned a voucher for a free box of healthy food from CARES. Local farms and grocery stores donated fresh produce to be included in the large boxes given to the families.

Celebrating 10 Years of God’s Goodness in Ministry at NGPC Pat Page, Executive Director Never in a million years would I ever have thought I would be an executive director of a Pregnancy Center in North Georgia. I began to realize how God had been preparing me for this opportunity from a very young age.

I was born into a pastor’s home in 1955 in Columbia, South Carolina. I was the second of four children.

The Lord saved me and gave me a heart to serve Him at a very early age. Upon high school graduation, I attended Columbia International University to receive an AA in Biblical Studies. I then went on to graduate in 1977 from Mississippi State University with a Business Education Degree and moved to Jackson, Mississippi.

Eventually, I ended up at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain working as Secretary

to the Dean of Faculty. There I met a professor who introduced me to Jim Page from Woodstock, GA. When I married Jim Page in June of 1981, we had grand plans to start a family as soon as possible. The Lord blessed us with three girls and a boy within nine years. When my son started his senior year of high school in 2009, I began to wonder what I was supposed to do now that my kids were grown. I had been home educating our four children for over 20 years and found myself looking for more to do.

For as long as I can remember, Jim and I were involved in the pro-life movement. We helped start Cherokee County Right to Life in Canton in the mid-1980s and have always had a heart for the unborn – speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Our family was also involved in picketing abortion clinics in Atlanta and marching in pro-life parades for many years.

That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born.... Psalm 78:6

In the fall of 2009, a friend from Jasper called asking if I would be interested

in working at a pregnancy center in Jasper as an administrative assistant. Thrilled to have an opportunity like this, I applied and was hired immediately. My first job was to plan a fundraiser banquet within 60 days. It was the joy of my life, because as a wedding coordinator, I always loved event planning!

Within a few years, I was asked to be the new executive director, since the current director was retiring.

What a joy it has been (and a huge learning curve) for the Lord to bless me and entrust to me the responsibility of running a pregnancy center. Shortly after I became director, we changed the name from Pickens Pregnancy Center to North Georgia Pregnancy and Family Resource Center since we wanted to reach out and serve an expanded area. We also added “Family Resource� to our name since the bulk of our ministry involves families in need.

I have truly been honored and humbled to oversee, along with a wonderful board of directors, volunteers, and staff, the ministry of serving others in the community. What a blessing to be part of a community of people who truly WANT to give birth to their children.

However, the need is great for teaching truth and being a guiding light to the families here.

We have seen many families turn a corner, some families reject our advice, but many families take advantage of the many services we offer.

all, the joy of seeing them grow in their walk with the Lord and growing in wisdom in their relationships and prospering in their personal lives is a true blessing.

The future of the center and the vision the Lord has given us for growth is so exciting!

As we observe the culture and demographics in our community, we attempt to direct our marketing efforts to the needs of our area.

However, one thing will never change ‌ the need for the truth of the Gospel to be shared in the lives of people. People desire to see authentic Christianity, and I trust that we can come alongside them to give them the Help they need, present the Hope of the Gospel, and the healing and restoration that only His Grace can bring. What a blessing to be here and what a joy to serve the Lord in North Georgia! Thank you all for your encouragement and support through the years! To God be the Glory, Great things He has done!

During the last 10 years, I have witnessed the Mercy and Goodness of the Lord more than I ever thought possible. I have loved getting to know people and families in Pickens County.

I do not believe there is another area in the state that does more to reach out and serve needy families like Jasper, Georgia. What a joy it has been to see men and women seek out our services, learn about childbirth, parenting, boundaries, and more. But most of

Judy Dean Celebrates 10 Years of Service Judy Dean has been serving as Prayer Intercessor at the North Georgia Pregnancy and Family Resource Center since late Spring 2009. She is visually disabled, but she knows there is power in prayer.

So when a call went out for volunteer help at the Center, she responded. Even though she depends on friends in the community and in her church for transportation, she’s an inspiration and a blessing to so many people in Jasper.

Judy moved to Jasper, Georgia shortly after her marriage to Randy Dean. She and Randy met in Hallandale, Florida in 1982. Judy was working at the local hospital in the housekeeping department and helping her girlfriend clean rooms at the motel that she managed. Randy was working in construction and happened to be rooming at the same motel. Their paths crossed, their conversations deepened, and their relationship blossomed. They were married in 1983.

Randy’s family encouraged them to move to Jasper so they wouldn’t be so far away and offered them the rustic home they owned on Burnt Mountain.

They accepted the offer and Judy found work at the Pickens County Nursing Home, which is now Pruitt Health and Rehabilitation Center. Randy found work in the textile industry. They were settling into life in the North Georgia mountains, balancing work, family and social time. Sadly, they had completely ignored their spiritual lives until financial and health challenges started knocking them down.

Their son, David was born in 1987, so Judy became a stay-at-home mom. But when he was just a toddler Judy began losing her vision. After much testing, it was determined that she had a genetic disease that would eventually lead to blindness. Since she was no longer able to drive, they decided to move closer to Jasper. Randy was having a hard time coping with Judy’s impaired vision and began drinking heavily, which led to physical and verbal abuse. It wasn’t long before he started using drugs too. They separated in 1992.

Thankfully, the church reached out to minister to Judy and her five year old son. Their acts of kindness and compassion showed her unconditional love. A friend invited her to a prayer meeting on July 24, 1993 and Judy heard Jesus calling her name. She quickly answered His call. She trusted Him as her Lord and Savior that night and just knew He was going to take care of her and her son.

Amazingly, the Lord was working on Randy’s heart too. He repented and received forgiveness of sin while serving a jail sentence for possession of drugs.

Pastor Frank Lathery faithfully prayed with and discipled Randy until he was released from jail. Pastor Lathery knew Randy needed work, so he hired him to help in his home construction business. God is so good!

Judy and Randy were reunited in 1995. Together with God as their foundation, they have a strong marriage and family. Their son, David, graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College in 2013 and works as a Computer Technician in Marietta.

Judy has a heart for people in need – especially single young mothers and couples struggling with abusive behavior. If you or someone you know needs prayer, stop by the Center and ask for Judy. She would be privileged to pray for you. We’re so thankful for the many years she has prayed for the Center, our staff, and for everyone who comes through our doors. She’s a true prayer warrior!

NGPC Now Offers Addiction Counseling

For years, people living in North Georgia have experienced a growing dependence on drugs and alcohol. It doesn’t matter whether the substance is legal (alcohol and pain pills) or illegal (marijuana, heroin, cocaine, etc.), the area has been hit hard by addiction. And the impact greatly affects teenagers, families, out-of-wedlock pregnancy rates, and the babies themselves.

Because the need has been so great, the North Georgia Pregnancy and Family Resource Center saw the need for biblical addiction counseling.

We’ve been blessed with two certified biblical counselors in Tim and Kit Brown, who started working with the Center in 2018. But in 2019, the Browns took on a much bigger role within the Center and are now formally offering biblical addiction counseling in the NGPC offices.

Addiction is a very difficult issue to handle, but Tim and Kit have been doing this type of ministry for nearly 20 years through His Steps Ministries.

Tim said, “We committed to this as a couple because both husband and wife need counseling when one or the other is caught in the bondage of addiction. We have been blessed to work with several individuals and couples and are

encouraged to watch God change lives through the power of His Word. Sometimes these couples do not change but we do not lose hope.

We have confidence in the Word of God that assures us if we are faithful to sow the seeds of the Word, God will bring a harvest if He desires in His time. We are thankful for this opportunity and would like to encourage others to get involved in helping counsel those struggling in North GA.” We look forward to sharing more about our addiction counseling ministry as the Lord brings the fruit. Engaging College Students and Faculty About Abortion

The North Georgia Pregnancy & Family Resource Center had the opportunity to participate in a few university health fairs this year. Each of these prompted interesting questions from students and discussion.

Many students were quick to defend the “choice” of mothers to abort their baby.

After they saw a model of a 12-week-old baby, you could tell they began to see the humanity of the unborn. The looks on their faces suggested that their firm grip on the "right to choose" was beginning to soften.

We also had the opportunity to speak to a Professor of Biology who told us she was 100% pro-choice. She argued that abortions are a natural part of life. When 32

I asked what she meant by this, she began to argue that there are two types of abortion: natural abortion and elective abortion. Natural abortion is also known as a miscarriage and elective abortion is the mother willingly terminating her baby. This led to a discussion of the involuntary bodily function of miscarriage and the voluntary choice to brutally kill the unborn.

She then discussed the belief that women should have the choice to abort in the case of chromosomal or genetic abnormalities or deficiencies (e.g.

Down syndrome). She stated no woman should have to carry a baby to term if she doesn’t want to and used the word “baby” throughout this discussion.
