Abortion

Engaging College Students and Faculty About Abortion By Madison Davis

The North Georgia Pregnancy & Family Resource Center had the opportunity to participate in a few university health fairs this year. Each of these prompted interesting questions from students and discussion. Many students were quick to defend the “choice” of mothers to abort their baby. After they saw a model of a 12-week-old baby, you could tell they began to see the humanity of the unborn. The looks on their faces suggested that their firm grip on the "right to choose" was beginning to soften. We also had the opportunity to speak to a Professor of Biology who told us she was 100% pro-choice. She argued that abortions are a natural part of life. When I asked what she meant by this, she began to argue that there are two types of abortion: natural abortion and elective abortion. Natural abortion is also known as a miscarriage and elective abortion is the mother willingly terminating her baby. This led to a discussion of the involuntary bodily function of miscarriage and the voluntary choice to brutally kill the unborn. She then discussed the belief that women should have the choice to abort in the case of chromosomal or genetic abnormalities or deficiencies (e.g. Down syndrome). She stated no woman should have to carry a baby to term if she doesn’t want to and used the word “baby” throughout this discussion.

Near the end of our discussion, she said “life is a miracle” – to which I asked how she could believe that and the things which we have discussed. She replied that a completely healthy baby without any genetic or chromosomal abnormalities is a miracle. She also said, replying to a comment made that babies who survive botched abortions are now being terminated on the table, "that would never happen; that would be considered murder." She didn't realize this egregious crime is unfortunately taking place as babies who survive botched abortions are not protected by the laws of the government, are not receiving proper medical care, and are not receiving justice for this human rights abuse. If these beliefs seem extreme, even for the pro-choice community, they are not. Unfortunately, these ideas are becoming mainstream. Abortion is no longer a debate of whether or not a baby inside the womb is a clump of cells or a living and feeling human being – science has proven this. Consider: • Abortion is now a debate of ethics – should a mother carry a baby to term even if she doesn’t want to? • Is an unborn baby which is testing positive for genetic or chromosomal abnormalities worthy of the right to live? This radical agenda is indoctrinating students on campuses across the United States. We are committed to defending the right to life, from conception to natural death, and are thankful to have been a part of these university health fairs and influencing the minds of students with the truth.
