Hello beautiful readers,

As we close the chapter on 2024, I find myself reflecting deeply on what has been a year of resilience, change, and undeniable strength This year has not been easy some moments felt like gut-punch blows, the kind that leaves you breathless We faced unexpected closures, including our Western Plains chapter, which never quite found its rhythm within our community (We wish Melissa and the community well for the future) It felt like being one of those clown balloons that gets knocked down, only to bounce right back up a little weathered but still standing

Through it all, what has kept me going what has always kept me going is you The incredible women in this network show up, give and receive, share wins and lessons, and lean into the spirit of mutual support that makes this community so uniqiue. The circular flow of giving and receiving has been my lifeline

I know I’m not alone in facing challenges this year Many of you have endured heartbreaks, curveballs, and unexpected detours yet you’ve risen with courage and grace You’ve inspired me in ways words can’t fully express. Seeing your strength reminds me why we do what we do

Looking ahead, I feel renewed hope. We have exciting plans for 2025 exciting events,

deeper connections, a return of the WWA podcast, and more ways to help all of you reach your goals in career and life None of it would be possible without the passionate, dedicated team that keeps this community thriving

In this edition we celebrate the 2024 Altitude Awards, its was an amazing weekend with the Ignite Conference on the day before and the morning of! - you could say it was an inspo and action weekend - Thank you to everyone who participated!

As we wrap up this year, I want you to know how deeply I appreciate each of you Thank you for being part of this journey, for standing together, and for reminding me that even in tough seasons, we rise stronger, wiser, and more connected

Thank you to all of our leaders and team membersmembers of the community who make such amazing contributions we just couldn't do it without you I especially want to thank Candace Coughlan, Mo Standen-Greer, Krys Francica, Cate Scolnik, Gabby Benkovich, Elizabeth Elenor, Elise Maunder & Jodi McConaghy who have been a huge source of extra support to me this year, Im so so grateful

While the recognition of winning the 'Beauty Brilliance' Award was truly humbling, the standout lesson for me was the process of applying. The questions were so incredibly well thought out and allowed me to sit and reflect on my personal and business journeys. I had the privilege of considering all the ups and downs of the past few years and acknowledging the resilience I had that I developed There were serious challenges that I had not processed properly too, and I think that bringing them to the forefront was very healing.

If you told me 5 yrs ago I would get Triple Negative Breast Cancer, study health and nutrition to learn how to stay alive, then leave my corporate career to run my own business as a health and nutrition coach, I wouldn't have believed you I cannot believe I get to spend my days supporting women to become the healthiest, most authentic version of themselves. To help women feel confident and in control after cancer. I've done many things I'm proud of over the last 5 years, but to spend my days helping others, recognised for my excellence in coaching is by far my highlight. I am so, so grateful!!

We were thrilled to be awarded the Charity Champion Award, giving us the opportunity to shine a light on affordable, person-centred cancer care within our community. To celebrate the night with incredible, heart-centred business owners and their achievement, while being supported with their fundraising going towards our cause was greatly appreciated – collectively we raised a total of $1,845

Immense gratitude to our therapists, volunteers, CWS team and community supporters - as we stepped on the stage, we felt their love and knew we represented every one of them – as we cannot do this without them.

Thank you, Andrea, and the WWA community, you made us feel very supported, appreciated and acknowledged

Winning this national award is an emotional and humbling milestone that fills me with gratitude. It’s a recognition not just of my journey but of the challenges, people, and experiences that have shaped me into someone more aligned with my mission to empower women. Thank you for recognising my efforts with this award. One fateful evening, in the middle of a Lego minefield, the idea for Weary Theory struck me like a lightning bolt. With a leap of faith and a bit of caffeine-fueled courage, I dove headfirst into the world of machine embroidery. I purchased my first machine and spent many late nights (and failed attempts) teaching myself to embroider and find the cutest backpacks for my templates. It's been a journey!

We feel very honoured to receive this award amongst our peers. It is affirming to be recognised for the hard work that we have put into our business over the last 25 years but more specifically the last 5 years. We had to go back to basics and build strong foundations From that we saw massive growth and increased profits We are now able to employ more people, the next stage is freedom and autonomy.

I really wasn’t expecting to win this – the finalists in this category are incredible – so when my name was called out I yelled so loud I hurt my throat!! We are incredibly honoured and thrilled to receive the Team of the Year award at the Women with Altitude Awards. It’s a celebration of what we can achieve together, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to inspire and empower others through our work This award energizes us to continue pushing boundaries and supporting each other to reach new heights.

Being recognised as a voice of influence fills me with immense pride when I reflect on how far I’ve come For just over 30 years I stayed quiet, believing “Who would listen to someone like me?” But I’ve discovered that I have a lot to say, important things to share, and people DO want to hear it. Through my podcast, my first book, and speaking on international stages, I’m learning to embrace a powerful truth: our voices matter

After an incredibly tumultuous year, that taught me to slow down a little, it was wonderful to have my work recognised. This year I had to give up so much, and to have my work recognised in this way has been incredibly humbling and I am so looking forward to the future

Another Year of Impact

Celebrating Our Ongoing Partnership

Women With Altitude’s commitment to partnering with social enterprises and charities that align with their values shines brightly through the ongoing collaboration with Cancer Wellness Support

In 2024, this partnership continued to flourish through The Love Project, a meaningful initiative that builds genuine connections and uplifts those in need

As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible impact we’ve achieved together

Established by Robyn Yates OAM in 2005, we are a locally based, not-for-profit organisation servicing the Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury regions.

In 2023-2024, we delivered 6,849 complementary therapies to our clients and carers as well as holistic education, wellness retreats and group programs

We are guided by our social purpose of supporting people living with cancer and their families by removing the financial barriers and accessibility constraints of complementary therapies

We have been 100% self-funded since inception through our Op Shops, fundraising activities and the generosity of our community

Record Funds Raised for Dry July

With heartfelt gratitude, we celebrated the collective efforts of our fundraising team, including Women with Altitude members raised a mind blowing $43,029 96 for Cancer Wellness Support during Dry July

Whether you fundraised, participated in our events, made a donation, enjoyed baked goods or spread the word, every effort made a significant impact

Shop & Swap: Fashion, Fun, and Fundraising

In November, we co-hosted two vibrant Shop & Swap evenings in Leura on 1 November and Penrith on 8 November, where fashion met sustainability. Guests donated beautiful clothing pieces they no longer wore, refreshed their wardrobes, and adopted a more eco-conscious approach to fashion by steering away from the cycle of fast fashion - all while raising vital funds for people living with cancer and their families.

Together, we raised $1,800 across both nights, proving that small actions can make a big difference

Candace Candace Coughlan Coughlan

Please tell us a little about you

I’m Candace, the heart and soul behind Wild Health Hub, a wellness business rooted in the beautiful Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia Originally hailing from Canada, I moved to Australia in 1994 to pursue a degree in Naturopathy Over the years, my path has taken me from the corporate world back to my true passion holistic health and wellness I’ve built Wild Health Hub as a space where I can share my knowledge and experiences, empowering others to live healthier, more vibrant lives Fun fact: I have a passion for high altitude mountaineering and have climbed to nearly 7000 meters of altitude This adventurous spirit reflects my approach to life embracing challenges and striving to reach new heights in everything I do

How does what you do help people?

At Wild Health Hub, I focus on equipping people with the tools and knowledge they need to take control of their health Whether it's through gut health coaching, fermentation or culinary nutrition workshops, or online resources, my goal is to make wellness accessible and achievable for everyone I help people understand the critical connection between what they eat and overall well-being, offering practical solutions that they can easily incorporate into their daily lives My work empowers individuals to not only improve their physical health but also to enhance their mental and emotional resilience, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life

What did you learn recently that you can share with us?

Recently, I’ve been reminded of the profound impact that rest and recovery have on our overall well-being It's easy to get caught up in the hustle, especially when you’re passionate about your work, but I’ve learned that taking time to rest isn’t just beneficial it’s essential By prioritising rest and recovery, we allow our bodies and minds to recharge, which ultimately leads to greater productivity, creativity, and resilience This lesson has inspired me to emphasise the importance of rest in my workshops and online content, encouraging others to see rest as a vital component of a healthy lifestyle

What is one thing you do consistently every day?

Every day, I practice gratitude. It might sound simple, but starting my day by reflecting on what I’m grateful for helps me maintain a positive mindset, no matter what challenges come my way This daily practice keeps me grounded and reminds me to appreciate both the big wins and the small joys in life It’s a habit that has had a profound impact on my overall well-being and has helped me stay focused and motivated in both my personal and professional life

What is your big scary goal for the future?

My big, scary goal is to establish a global academy or my "Hub" for holistic health care that brings together leading experts in various wellness fields. This Hub would offer a comprehensive range of courses and resources, helping people around the world access the knowledge they need to improve their health and well-being. Additionally, I dream of hosting international wellness retreats again and eventually creating my ideal homestead a space where traditional skills and modern conveniences coexist in harmony, and where I can continue to inspire and educate others

When your business is complete/at a level of success, what does it look like?

When Wild Health Hub reaches its full potential, it will be a thriving community of wellness enthusiasts and practitioners who come together to learn, grow, and support each other. The business will offer a diverse array of practitioners, workshops, online courses, and retreats that cater to people at all stages of their wellness journey.

Connect with Candace: Wild Health Hub

I envision Wild Health Hub as a hub of innovation and education in the wellness industry, where people can find the resources and support they need to achieve their health goals It will also be a platform that empowers other wellness practitioners, providing them with the tools and guidance they need to succeed in their own ventures

Who would you love to have a conversation with, and what would you ask them?

I would love to sit down with Dr. Zach Bush, a pioneering expert in microbiome science and holistic health. His work on the microbiome and its connection to overall health is incredibly inspiring. I’d ask him about the latest research on how our environment, particularly soil health, impacts the human microbiome. I’m also curious about his thoughts on how we can better educate the public about the importance of gut health and its role in preventing chronic diseases His insights would be invaluable as I continue to develop content and resources for Wild Health Hub

What is one thing you did in your business that changed things for you for the better - can you give us an example?

One pivotal change was fully embracing digital content creation Launching my YouTube channel and developing online courses allowed me to reach a global audience, sharing the message of Wild Health Hub far beyond the confines of my local community This shift not only expanded my reach but also opened up new opportunities for collaboration and growth For example, our online fermentation workshops have connected people from all over the world, creating a vibrant community of learners who support and inspire each other

Building Your Business

Smart Spending This Summer

Navigating Tax and Gifting Rules

With summer celebrations just around the corner, many Australian businesses gear up for staff parties, client events, and thoughtful gift-giving While it’s the season for rewarding hard work and strengthening business relationships, it’s also essential to understand how these expenses interact with Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)

FBT is an additional tax employers pay on certain benefits provided to employees, including entertainment and gifts Knowing when FBT applies can help businesses manage costs and maximize tax deductions

Here’s a quick guide to summer-related expenses and their FBT implications:

Summer Staff Parties

Hosting a summer party for your team? It’s considered ‘entertainment,’ which typically attracts FBT However, the minor benefits exemption might apply if the cost per head is less than $300

On-site Staff Party:

If the event is held on business premises during work hours, the cost is FBT-exempt under the minor benefits rule if it’s under $300 per person.

Off-site Staff Party:

If the event is held at a venue, the cost is subject to FBT unless it qualifies for the minor benefits exemption

Client Entertainment

Taking clients out for a summer lunch or event? The good news is that expenses related to entertaining clients are not subject to FBT However, the tradeoff is that these costs are not tax-deductible, regardless of how much you spend

Gifts: Employees vs. Clients

Employee Gifts:

Gifts like gift cards, hampers, or bottles of wine are subject to FBT unless they qualify as minor benefits (under $300) If they do, they are both FBT-exempt and tax-deductible

Client Gifts:

Gifts given to clients, such as branded merchandise, gourmet baskets, or event tickets, are not subject to FBT and fully taxdeductible

Stay Tax-Savvy This Summer

Tis the season to be spendy?

With the festive season approaching – our penchant for gift giving and splurging increases As businesses wind down their operations and celebrate the end of another year, it’s common for many Australian SME’s to provide Christmas parties and gift to employees and clients

Many businesses fall into the trap of thinking that these costs are automatically tax-deductible

However, in many cases, entertainment or gifts are subject to Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT)

FBT is an additional tax paid by employers for some benefits, such as entertainment, that they provide to their team Where FBT is paid, in most cases you can also receive a tax deduction for the cost of the benefit

So, what are the rules when it comes to hosting parties and gifting your clients and colleagues?

Here is our rundown, below:

Christmas Parties

A Christmas party is considered ‘entertainment’ and FBT does apply Where FBT is paid, in most cases you can also receive a tax deduction for the cost of the benefit. However, an exception to this rule may occur under the minor benefit exemption (a benefit that has a value of less than $300).

The same applies for Christmas parties held off business premises; the benefit is exempt from FBT again under the minor benefit exemption, however, only if the cost per head for the employee (and associates, if any attend) is less than $300

Clients

Entertaining clients is not subject to FBT and the cost is not tax-deductible This means you can spend more or less than $300 per head on your Christmas lunch, and for clients, their lunch will be exempt from FBT and not tax-deductible

Gifts

Gifting can be a little bit trickier, as it is important to consider whether the gift is classed as a gift or entertainment A gift generally includes things like a chocolate box, gift voucher, pen, or Christmas hamper Where gifts are provided to clients, they are not subject to FBT and are tax-deductible regardless of spend Gifts provided to employees are subject to FBT, unless the cost of the gift is less than $300, in which case it falls under the minor benefit exemption and is exempt from FBT

If you’re looking to make the most out of the festive season, just ensure you are across the FBT policies so you can enjoy the gift of giving this Christmas

Shaping Your Brand Identity

With Your Unique Brand Story

STOP! Before reading further, list 10 questions you would like to ask a business or individual you admire. Keep these handy – we'll use them later.

The term “brand story” is often thrown around, but what does it actually mean? And how important is it? Simply put, it's your business journey – who you are, where you’ve been, and how you got here More than marketing, your brand story humanises your business, making it memorable and relatable When people connect with your story, they're not just buying a product or service; they're investing in who you are and what you stand for

Further, your story is your compass, keeping you grounded in your values and purpose, offering the reassurance: "I’m on the right path, I’m ok”

In today’s digital world anyone can manufacture their own fame Standing out requires more than just quality work You need to blend various skills such as creator, broadcaster and educator with your personality and unique interests. This is where your brand story becomes invaluable. You are not just another replaceable commodity – your brand story is uniquely yours. Imagine if every business told the same story - wouldn't that be boring?

Your brand story should also embrace your flaws and lived experiences. You want to build familiarity and trust, and sanitised stories don't resonate anymore. People connect with the human side of your journey.

There are 4 key principles of a memorable and authentic brand story:

Your name or persona: Names aren’t just labels, they carry history, culture, and values and often the first thing people remember about you 1

2 Being imperfect is perfect. Embrace imperfections. Your audience relates to real experiences

4

What is normal? Normal is vanilla It’s not memorable enough Reveal that quirky side of your personality or aspect that no one knows Ask yourself “By day people know me as [insert day job/persona/role]. What they don’t know is by night I am [insert your character/passion/surprising pursuit]”.

3. Who are the villains?Identify the challenges your audience faces or the obstacles in your industry Position yourself as the guide or problem-solver in your story

Once you’ve shaped your brand story, you can translate it into your brand identity with imagery and graphics Here’s a few ideas:

Embrace your quirky personality and include something memorable into your logo like a photographer incorporating a camera lens

Gentle spirits can add warmth to their brand by utilising free-flowing illustrations and candid videos of real customers using their services Romantics can enhance their products with gold floral packaging and a hidden poem inside and a principled and law-abiding professional may combine navy tones with bold, capitalised headings in their marketing.

For fun and cheerful souls the inclusion of cartoon characters can invoke a light-hearted brand So how do you bring your brand story to life?

Return to those 10 questions you drafted earlier and conduct an honest self-interview, guided by the 4 principles Your answers will reveal the unique experiences and values that shape your story For new businesses, this creates a foundation to build on; for established brands, consider a budget-friendly brand refresh or gradually introduce new words, images, and ideas into your marketing Refine everything based on feedback but stay true to yourself

Your brand story is a reflection of who you are and what you stand for and weaving it into your brand identity helps build lasting connections and sets you apart in the market

Thriving as an Entrepreneur During the Holidays

Balancing Work, Family, and Festivities

The holiday season is both a joyous and demanding time for entrepreneurs Balancing family, celebrations, and work requires thoughtful planning By setting clear boundaries, prioritising self-care, and preparing in advance, you can fully embrace the season without compromising business goals

1. Prioritise and Plan Ahead

Effective planning is key to managing work during the holidays Start by listing critical tasks to complete before year-end, such as wrapping up client projects or admin work Grouping similar tasks boosts efficiency, and delegating responsibilities to team members or a virtual assistant can lighten your load, giving you more time to enjoy holiday moments

Think about how you want to spend the season with family and friends Blocking out specific days on your calendar prevents work from intruding on personal time and ensures you can be fully present to recharge

2. Know When to Say “No”

The holidays bring plenty of invitations and commitments, from social events to family gatherings Prioritise engagements that align with your values and bring you joy, and don’t be afraid to decline others. Saying “no” keeps your schedule manageable and reduces stress, allowing you to focus on what truly matters.

Look over your workload, too Are there tasks that could wait until after the holidays? Streamlining commitments now can help you enter the holiday season with peace of mind

3. Set Boundaries and Communicate Clearly

Setting boundaries helps you enjoy time off without constant work interruptions Let clients, colleagues, and family know your availability early Consider an email auto-responder to inform clients of your holiday hours and expected response times Updating your business hours on your website and social media also helps manage expectations.

At home, share your schedule with family, especially if you need time to complete tasks before winding down. Clear communication prevents misunderstandings and helps balance work and festivities, making it easier to transition into time off.

4. Make Time for Self-Care and Reflection

While it’s tempting to maximise productivity, the holidays are also a valuable time to recharge Incorporate small self-care practices each day whether it’s a walk, reading, or mindfulness to stay energised and reduce stress These moments allow you to pause, relax, and enjoy the season

Taking time to reflect on your achievements and challenges from the past year can also be grounding Recognising your growth provides a sense of fulfilment and prepares you to enter the new year with renewed motivation

5. Prepare for a Smooth January Return

A bit of preparation before you take a break can make returning to work much easier Outline your key goals and projects for January, and make a quick to-do list for when you’re back If you work with clients, notify them of your holiday hours and any tasks they may need to address while you’re away. These steps help you avoid the post-holiday overwhelm and ensure a smooth start in the new year.

6. Express Gratitude & Celebrate Connections

The holiday season is an ideal time to show appreciation to clients, colleagues, and family A simple thank-you message, a handwritten note, or a holiday greeting can make a meaningful impact and build goodwill with others

Spending quality time with loved ones is equally important Taking a moment to share gratitude with family and friends adds depth to the season, bringing a sense of fulfilment as you move into the new year Embracing gratitude fosters a positive mindset and supports both personal and professional growth

In the end, thriving as an entrepreneur during the holidays is all about balance By planning ahead, setting boundaries, and focusing on self-care, you can enjoy a holiday season that feels both productive and restorative With these strategies, you’ll enter the new year refreshed, inspired, and ready for what lies ahead

From Invisible to Unforgettable

How the Right Colours Can Change Your Life

Have you ever walked into a room and felt like no one noticed you? Many women feel invisible, and for years, I didn’t realise that colour could change everything

I’ve spent my adult life helping women step into their power through movement, makeup, and selfcare But discovering the transformative power of colour analysis was a game-changer Wearing the right colours isn’t just about looking good it’s about being seen, remembered, and stepping into your most authentic self

The Moment It All Changed

I’ve always loved pink Everything had to be pink clothes, accessories, even my nails, which I’d painted pink for 40 years. It was my safe, signature colour. I never considered red until I rebranded Her Smile, and red became one of our brand colours. At first, I was reluctant Red felt bold and daring I felt like it was shouting at me! Then I was invited to an event at Parliament and found a stunning red three-piece suit I bought it, and when I wore it, something incredible happened Compliments poured in. People told me how radiant and powerful I looked. For the first time, I saw myself differently.

That red suit changed everything I started small, swapping my pink nail polish for red It felt symbolic like shedding an old layer of myself and stepping into something new. Over time, I’ve grown to love red. It’s a reflection of my growth and transformation. I’ve outgrown pink. Red is now my power colour.

What Is Colour Analysis?

Colour analysis identifies which colours harmonise with your unique features skin tone, hair, and eyes These colours are grouped into "seasons" like Soft Autumn, Cool Winter, and others Wearing colours that match your natural features creates balance and radiance. People may even say, “There’s something different about you,” even if all you’ve done is changed the colour of your top.

Wearing the wrong colours can drain you They draw attention to blemishes or make you look tired. But when you wear Your colours, you’re unforgettable.

How Colour Changes Your Confidence

The right colours do more than enhance your looks they empower you Confidence doesn’t come from wishing you had a different body shape It comes from embracing who you are When you’re wearing colours that feel right for you, you no longer ask, “Does this suit me?” Because you know it does.

Many clients come to me saying, “I feel invisible ” They’ve hidden behind neutral, safe colours for so long they’ve forgotten what it’s like to stand out

After their personal colour analysis, they find the courage to wear colours that give them presence and authority One client said, “After having my colours done, I walked into the office and people noticed me They asked if I’d changed something, but all I did was wear a top in my best colour ”

Working on my Mindset

Reflecting on 2024

Refining Your Actions for a Powerful 2025

As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to pause and reflect on the journey of 2024 For women entrepreneurs, reflection isn’t just a luxury; it’s a vital strategy for aligning with your vision and recalibrating for the year ahead. Start by celebrating your wins both big and small Each milestone achieved reflects not only your effort but also your courage to pursue your dreams. Whether it was launching a new product, growing your network, or simply navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, every success deserves acknowledgment. Write these achievements down and let gratitude set the tone for your reflection.

Now, refine your focus In 2024, where did your energy flow? Were your actions aligned with your long-term goals, or were they scattered across tasks that didn’t serve your vision? Use these insights to redefine your priorities If certain activities didn’t yield the desired outcomes, it’s time to let them go and create space for more impactful strategies.

Next, consider the lessons learned. Challenges and setbacks aren’t failures they’re valuable feedback. Reflect on the obstacles you faced and how you overcame them. What did these experiences teach you about your business, your clients, and yourself? This wisdom is a foundation for growth

Looking ahead to 2025, set goals that inspire action and stretch your limits Be intentional about aligning these goals with your personal and professional values. Is it time to expand your team, scale your business, or deepen your impact in the community?

A powerful year isn’t just about what you do; it’s about who you become Consider investing in skills, mentorship, or wellness practices that nurture you as a leader Success thrives where clarity and intention meet consistent action

As women entrepreneurs, we have the ability to innovate, inspire, and create meaningful change By reflecting on 2024 and refining our focus for 2025, we can step into the new year with confidence, purpose, and unstoppable momentum

End the Year Well

Here you are, you’ve made it! You’re almost at the finish line. You’ve put in a huge amount of work. Shown up when and where you’ve been needed Made the extra effort and taken brave steps towards your dreams And you’ve done it consistently All year long Well done!

It’s lovely to see that finish line up ahead, yet as you approach the end of year you may also feel some pressure and fatigue Perhaps your calendar is bulging at the sides, the work deadlines a little too close, your energy lower than you like or need to meet the expectations and responsibilities of this time

If you’re feeling a mix of emotions and responses you’re not alone, many women feel the strain as well as the joy of the holiday season You may be busy thinking about and looking after everyone else, finalising all the details and creating a smooth flow for your household, business and clients, but who’s looking after you?

You and I both know this season is hectic because it rolls out the same way every year But do you ever find yourself wondering if you could manage it better?

When the pressure is on you might criticise yourself - ‘If only I had a more time, energy, inspiration and motivation!’ And you might try to conjure more or keep drawing on your ever emptying tank, but it just remains elusive

But there are ways to end the year well. Just like your life is enhanced by an exercise routine, saving money or eating well, your sense of self also thrives and grows with consistent acts of care, nourishment and celebration

When my children were young and my budget very tight, I kept a jar and each week I would put $10 in it Every week a small deposit was made It meant that when Christmas came around, there was always some extra money for gifts The regular habit of saving reduced my end of year pressure and because it was a small amount I didn’t miss it most weeks

Imagine your body, mind and spirit are like that jar And that self-care is something you can invest in throughout the year. You don’t have to wait to until you’re exhausted or strung out. Regular deposits of time dedicated to nourishing your wellbeing are a worthy investment. The small daily practices of meditation, journalling, exercise, time in nature, art, dance, yoga or whatever else you find helpful, can and will create a restorative reserve account you can withdraw from when your other resources seem slim

You may be feeling it’s too late to make changes this year, but there’s still time! Like that $10 in the jar, ten minutes a day of doing something you know is good for you can and does make a difference

The end of the year is a great time to let old habits go. Give yourself the gift of regular nourishment, commit to your self-care, swap any old criticism for self- kindness and celebrate all the wins you’ve had throughout the year! Remember they are a sign that more success is possible on your path ahead.

The Power of Words

How the Right Language Can Transform Your Life

Words hold a quiet yet remarkable power over our lives, and often we don’t realise the weight they carry They shape our thoughts, impact our mental health, and either uplift us or drag us down In fact, the way we talk to ourselves and others can make or break our well-being and, ultimately, our success. As a Life Coach specialising in the power of words, I've seen firsthand how changing our language can lead to profound shifts in our lives.

Albert Einstein famously said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Yet, despite our knowledge of this, many of us fall into the habit of using the same self-defeating words and creating stories that do nothing but add stress and self-doubt We talk ourselves into believing we’re not good enough, or we compare ourselves to others, chipping away at our confidence and peace of mind Without even realising it, we become our own worst critics

The truth is, we often don’t know the damage we’re doing to ourselves with our language And if we don’t know, we can’t change That’s why investing in self-awareness and personal growth is essential Sometimes, this means saying “no” to material purchases that offer short-lived excitement and choosing, instead, to invest in experiences and development that truly transform us. Personal growth gives us a return far greater than any item we could buy. It’s an investment in a new way of thinking, a shift in mindset, and ultimately, a better life.

One of the most powerful ways to begin this journey is to examine the words you use Are they nurturing? Do they encourage you to grow, or do they hold you back? Surround yourself with people who elevate you, who genuinely want to see you thrive. Use language that reflects the best in you and helps you believe in your potential.

In addition to the words we choose, another crucial aspect of well-being is learning to slow down and make time for the things that truly matter All too often, people become so busy that they neglect their bodies, families, and friendships the very core of a balanced life Many wait for a wake-up call, such as a health scare, to realise they’ve sacrificed too much Don’t let it come to that Make the choice today to prioritise your health and relationships, to rest and recharge

Remember, you matter. Trying to please everyone will only lead to burnout and frustration, because there will always be someone who disagrees with your choices. Instead, focus on aligning with your values and using words that support who you want to become. Check your language: does it build you up, or does it tear you down? We get to choose our words, and with that choice, we shape our lives

If you’re feeling stuck, don’t despair Take this as your sign to invest in yourself As the new year approaches, commit to creating a healthier, more balanced life One where you look back and feel proud of the changes you’ve made Trust me, your best days are ahead So make a fresh start, use words that empower you, and know that you’re worthy of a life filled with joy, balance, and fulfilment You’ve got this!

Your Health & Wellbeing

Essential Wellness Habits For a Vibrant Life

Achieving a healthy life goes beyond diet. Here are some wellness essentials that can transform how you feel every day.

4 Embrace Good Fats: Healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and ghee nourish your body and support brain health. Avoid trans fats and seed oils high in omega-6, which can cause inflammation.

5. Stay Active: Regular movement helps maintain weight, improves mood, and keeps joints limber. Find ways to enjoy physical activity make it a habit, not a chore

1 Get Enough Sun: Natural sunlight boosts Vitamin D and regulates your circadian rhythm, supporting better sleep and a balanced mood. In summer, 20-minute outdoor sessions in the morning and afternoon are ideal In winter, increase exposure to 30-45 minutes at midday

3

Stay Hydrated: Water makes up 60% of the human body and supports everything from mood and memory to joint health. Aim for 35ml of water per kilogram of body weight daily, adjusting as needed.

2. Use Natural Personal Care Products: Avoid toothpaste with fluoride and antibacterial mouthwashes, which disrupt good oral bacteria Use gentle, natural alternatives instead

6 Eat Fish: Incorporate fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and trout twice a week for heart-healthy omega-3s

7 Ground Yourself: Walking barefoot on natural surfaces like grass balances your body’s energy and supports well-being

These lifestyle changes aren’t complicated but can have profound impacts on your physical and mental health.

The Secret

Turning Menopause Into a New Beginning

With summer on the way, many women dread another season of hot flushes and night sweats. Thankfully, studies are highlighting acupuncture's role in reducing these symptoms during menopause

In a youth focused society, turning 50 can feel daunting Yet, in Chinese medicine, women’s health moves in seven-year cycles, making it natural to enter menopause at around 49 Menopause, literally meaning the “end of monthly cycles,” marks a powerful transition While it may seem like a descent into old age, it can be the start of a fulfilling new chapter

Between the ages of 49 and 56, women begin this Mother-to-Crone shift, rediscovering their connection to self It’s a time to reclaim talents and passions that may have been put aside, nurturing oneself instead of focusing solely on others At its heart, the Crone phase is about letting go and releasing what is no longer necessary Menopause, from this angle, can be empowering, helping women prioritize their own well-being

In Western culture, menopause is sometimes treated as a “disease” with Women reporting hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and other symptoms Yet women elsewhere experience menopause differently For example, Indian women notice only menstrual changes, Japanese women report shoulder stiffness, and in Hong Kong joint and muscle problems were the most common symptoms This suggests lifestyle, stress, and cultural beliefs affect symptoms as much as biological factors

From an archetypal perspective, women progress in 28-year cycles: Maiden, Mother, and Crone

Although "Crone" may sound harsh, it originally meant "crown," a symbol of wisdom and selfconnection Traditionally, Crones were the wise women, healers, and leaders of their communities Menopause is not a collection of symptoms to be "fixed," but rather a profound opportunity for growth and self-discovery This transition can be a time to refocus on your needs and dreams, creating a path forward with wisdom and resilience

So how can you support your body through menopause? Here are some essential lifestyle adjustments:

Sleep: Quality sleep is crucial for hormone balance and the most restorative sleep occurs between 11 p m and 3 a m , so try to settle in by 10:30 p m

Diet: A balanced diet supports hormone health

Ensure you eat a variety of proteins, fresh vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and fruits Healthy fats are essential for reproductive hormones Coffee, alcohol, and spicy foods, can exacerbate hot flushes

Exercise: Regular physical activity keeps bones and muscles strong, include aerobic activities and strength training Sexual activity also promotes blood flow, helping to keep tissues healthy.

Bone Health: Fresh air, sunlight, and exercise helps prevent osteoporosis. Avoiding excessive medications, alcohol, and tobacco also supports longevity and vitality.

Stress Management: Chronic stress intensifies symptoms, so finding ways to relax is key Techniques like meditation, breathing exercises, qigong/tai chi, time in nature and acupuncture can help

Our cooling, calming Yin energy naturally declines with age, leading to warmth (hot flushes) and dryness (vaginal discomfort), sleep disruption and mood shifts Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are powerful tools to support these energy changes, making the transition smoother

Embrace this time as a chance to reconnect with yourself, letting it bring new possibilities and depth to your life If you need support through menopause, consider booking an acupuncture appointment with Tania Grasseschi, an AHPRA registered practitioner of Chinese medicine in Katoomba

Unlocking Your Unique Frequency

For Personal and Business Success

Why Traditional Methods May Not Work

Many women entrepreneurs look for external solutions to overcome challenges working harder, rebranding, or adopting new strategies. But these approaches don’t address the root cause: your inner energy state.

Think of yourself as a radio. No matter how well you adjust the volume or refine the radio, if it’s not tuned to the right station, you’ll only hear static. Likewise, without aligning your frequency, even the best strategies can fall short

As women in business, we often push ourselves to achieve more investing in courses, books, and workshops But what happens when nothing seems to work? If you’ve felt this way, you’re not alone The answer may lie in an area you haven’t explored yet: your unique frequency

The Science of Frequencies Frequencies are the language of the universe, influencing everything from our emotions to our health. When our frequency is aligned, we experience clarity, energy, and flow. When disrupted, we feel stuck, exhausted, or blocked Dr Joe Dispenza, a leader in quantum physics and neuroscience, explains that tuning into the right frequencies creates coherence between the heart and brain This state can shift our experience, promoting greater health, wellbeing, and business success

Discovering Your Personal Frequency

If you’re feeling stuck despite your efforts, it may be time for a more individualized approach Each of us has a unique energetic blueprint Understanding this can help identify and balance disruptions.

Start by becoming aware of your energy:

Emotions: Are stress, frustration, or self-doubt common for you? These can signal energetic imbalances

Physical Health: Chronic issues or fatigue might indicate blocked energy.

Business Flow: Recurring struggles in business, despite your efforts, can reflect misalignments in your frequency.

Aligning Your Frequency

Once you’ve identified where your energy is out of balance, there are ways to shift your frequency back into alignment:

Heart-Brain Coherence: Inspired by Dr Joe Dispenza, this practice focuses on breathing deeply, cultivating emotions like gratitude, and aligning your heart and brain. This harmonizes your energy, creating a state of flow.

Vibrational Therapy: Tools like frequency scans provide personalized insights into your energy field, pinpointing imbalances and offering tailored frequency solutions to support your wellbeing and business

Energy Hygiene: Treat your energy like any other aspect of health Simple daily practices like clearing your energy, meditation, grounding exercises, or setting intentions can keep your energy aligned

To help I have recorded a Heart-Brain Coherence medication for you which you can listen to on YouTube.

From Frustration to Flow

For those who’ve tried everything and still feel blocked, remember that the solution may not be about doing more; it’s about doing what resonates with your unique frequency. When you tune into the right energy, not only does your business flow more effortlessly, but your health, relationships, and overall wellbeing improve too

Success doesn’t have to be a struggle By aligning your frequency, you unlock clarity, energy, and prosperity unique to you. If you’re feeling stuck, this personalized approach may be the key you’ve been looking for.

Preparing for the Year Ahead

A Holistic Health Check-In

As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on your wellness journey and set intentions for the new year A holistic health checkin supports sustainable changes and helps you start the year feeling grounded, balanced, and ready for growth

1.

Reflect on Your Wellbeing Journey

Begin by reviewing the past year What wellness practices served you well? Which ones were harder to maintain? Take a moment to celebrate your efforts, no matter how small Identifying these patterns lets you see what’s worth continuing and what may need to shift

Rather than strict resolutions, consider setting intentions that feel supportive and achievable These could include prioritising sleep, making time for movement, or being more mindful in daily life

2. Nourish Your Body with Whole Foods

A solid foundation of health begins with nourishing foods. After the holiday indulgences, the new year is a chance to refocus on balanced nutrition. Rather than dieting, aim to eat a variety of whole foods that fuel both body and mind Increase your intake of seasonal fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins

Consider adding gut-friendly foods like fermented vegetables, kefir, or kombucha These support a diverse microbiome, essential for digestion, immunity, and mood regulation Balanced, nutrientdense meals will help support energy and vitality as you start the year.

3. Create Simple, Sustainable Movement Goals

Movement is key to well-being, but it doesn’t have to mean intense workouts daily Find ways to move that bring joy and fit your lifestyle This could be a daily walk, yoga, dancing, or strength training Set movement goals that feel realistic and achievable Rather than focusing on intensity, aim for consistency. Small, regular physical activities are easy to integrate and can benefit both mind and body.

4. Prioritise Rest and Quality Sleep

Rest is essential, yet often neglected. Quality sleep allows your body to repair, reduces stress, and enhances focus. As you move into the new year, consider your sleep habits. Are you getting enough rest?

Establish a calming evening ritual that helps you wind down This could include dimming lights, limiting screens, sipping herbal tea, or practising mindfulness Aim for a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time Prioritising rest improves mental clarity, emotional resilience, and overall health

6. Set Mindful Intentions for Mental and Emotional Wellness

The new year is a wonderful time to nurture mental and emotional well-being Set intentions for stress management and mindfulness by incorporating practices like journaling, meditation, or spending time in nature Even a few minutes daily can make a meaningful difference over time

Social connection is another pillar of emotional wellness Make time to build relationships that uplift you, whether through regular meet-ups with friends, family gatherings, or community involvement A supportive network helps you navigate challenges with resilience and perspective

5. Reduce Toxins in Your Environment

Our daily environments impact our health more than we often realise Consider simple steps to reduce toxins at home as part of your holistic health check-in Switching to natural cleaning products, using glass or stainless-steel containers instead of plastic, and choosing organic produce where possible are small changes that minimise exposure to harmful chemicals.

To go further, you might assess the personal care products you use or look at the air quality in your space. Creating a cleaner environment supports a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

Moving Forward

A holistic health check-in is a balanced way to enter the new year with strong intentions for wellbeing. Reflecting on what matters most and focusing on small, sustainable actions creates a wellness routine that’s achievable and meaningful. Embrace this check-in as an ongoing journey rather than a destination, letting wellness be at the heart of everything you do in the new year

How Gardening Grows Wellness, Joy, and Community

G’day folks! Kate the Greeny here.

I want to share why I grow plants not just at home, but in my garden, the local school, and the community garden. Gardening isn’t just about greenery; it keeps me fit, brings me joy, and helps me stay connected. Seeing kids’ confidence bloom when they garden, or bonding with neighbors over shared plants, reminds me how powerful this simple activity can be

But most of all, I want you to feel confident growing your own plants and food. It’s easier than you think, and the rewards go way beyond a pretty space or fresh veggies. AND they are beautiful and attract the bees which we need!

Cleaner Air, Happier Lungs

Indoor air can be full of pollutants from furniture, cleaners, and candles These VOCs (volatile organic compounds) can irritate your lungs and give you headaches Plants quietly soak up these toxins and release fresh oxygen

Some of my favorites for cleaner air:

Spider Plants: Tough and fantastic air purifiers

Peace Lilies: Great for filtering toxins (keep out of reach of pets)

Boston Ferns: Boost humidity in dry indoor spaces

A few plants can make a huge difference to the air you breathe

Plants for Your Mental Health

Why Plants Are More Than Decor

Plants don’t just make your home look good they purify the air, lift your mood, and create a healthier environment You might think, “Really, Kate? Is a bit of greenery that life-changing?” Absolutely!

Tending to plants can ease stress and ground you in the moment. Watering a pothos or pruning a monstera reminds you to slow down and appreciate life’s little joys Plants can also improve focus and creativity perfect for brightening up your home office!

The Joy of Growing Food

Harvesting herbs or tomatoes you’ve grown yourself is so satisfying. You don’t need a big yard just some sunlight and a bit of care.

Easy options to start with:

Herbs: Basil, mint, and parsley thrive on windowsills.

Cherry Tomatoes: Great in pots.

Leafy Greens: Quick-growing and perfect for shallow trays.

Homegrown food is fresher, tastier, and cuts down on plastic waste. It’s good for you and the planet.

Pet-Friendly Plants

Got pets? No worries! Choose non-toxic plants like:

Areca Palm: Elegant and safe.

Calathea: Beautiful, pet-friendly, and colorful.

Spider Plant: A classic that’s safe for pets and cleans the air.

Hanging baskets or high shelves also help keep plants out of reach

Gardening with Kids & Community

One of the best things about gardening is sharing it At the local school, I love watching kids beam with pride when they see their seeds grow In community gardens, you connect, share knowledge, and create something sustainable together Hands in the dirt, hearts open it’s magic

A Healthier Home, A Healthier Planet

Our choices at home ripple outwards. By adding plants, using fewer chemicals, and growing food, you’re creating a healthier space and a greener planet

Simple swaps:

Eco-Friendly Cleaners: Reduce toxins.

Natural Air Fresheners: Use essential oils or beeswax candles

Low-VOC Products: Safer paints and furniture

Composting: Turn scraps into rich garden soil

Ready to Start?

Don’t overthink it! Start with a pot of basil in the kitchen or a snake plant in the living room.

Quick Tips:

Light Matters: Choose the right spot for each plant 1.

Water Wisely: Let soil dry slightly between waterings 2

Feed Your Plants: Use natural fertilizer during growth season 3

Repot When Needed: If roots are cramped, it’s time to size up 4

Plants have enriched my life, and they can enrich yours too Whether you’re greening your home, growing food, or connecting through a community garden, the benefits are endless

So give it a go! Start small or dive into a veggie patch

Finding Peace at the Water’s Edge

Kindness, Connection and Revitalisation

These are the first three words that come to mind when I think of Lake’s Edge at Lake Conjola.

Originally built by its owner in the 1960’s, the home has since passed on through three generations. Before becoming Lakes Edge at Lake Conjola, the house was most commonly known as ‘Pa’s Place’

My grandfather, aka - ‘Pa’ was one of the kindest people I knew. He had been travelling to Lake Conjola long before moving there permanently in the early 1980’s He was very well connected in the community and always opened his home to friends who dropped in for a cuppa or stayed for a night to rest as the passed by on their travels

I have fond memories of summers fishing in the lake, beach swims, building sandcastles and going ‘into town’ to the movies Winters were spent by the fireplace, toasting bread and marshmallows or snuggled on the deck reading a book looking out to the morning mist It didn’t matter when we visited, it always gave us a sense of happiness and revitalised our soul.

In recent years, my siblings and I have become the custodians of this special place and wanted to ensure others would have the opportunity to experience the magic that is Lake Conjola.

That is why Lake’s Edge is now available for holiday rentals for others to visit and experience relaxation, connect to nature or make memories of their own to cherish for a lifetime with their own families

After a whirlwind season of organizing a major conference and the Altitude Awards, I found myself craving rest a place to breathe, reflect, and restore. Lake’s Edge at Lake Conjola was exactly what my soul needed.

From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced by the serenity of the lake and the timeless comfort woven into the walls of this special home. Early mornings greeted me with mist dancing over the water, while evenings wrapped me in the soft glow of sunset hues The gentle rhythm of the lake, paired with the warmth of the home, worked its quiet magic, soothing the edges of a busy mind

I spent hours sitting on the deck, mesmerised by the ever-changing reflections on the water, feeling deeply connected to nature. The simplicity of it listening to the birds, watching the breeze ripple the lake, and savouring the stillness reminded me of the power of slowing down.

Staying at Lake’s Edge wasn’t just a getaway; it was a homecoming to peace and presence It’s a place that nurtures you, just as it has done for generations of its family and now for all fortunate to visit. - Andrea Turner-Boys

Finding Strength in the Storm

How a Leukemia Diagnosis Transformed My Life

In May, I came down with a high fever After four weeks of bed rest, I was admitted to the hospital. This was the beginning of my transformational life journey.

I remember a doctor coming into my hospital room, looking rather serious He sat in front of me and told me that I had leukemia My first response was, “OK ” In hindsight, I was blissfully ignorant I didn’t know that leukemia was cancer!

As the doctor continued, I realised that I had cancer My first thought was, “Well, it is out of my control But there is something I can do I can trust the doctors and nurses, listen to them, do whatever they ask me to do, and eat well and rest well ” This is exactly what I have been doing ever since.

However, there was one thing I refused to do, which was to listen to the social worker A day or two after my diagnosis, she came to see me and said, “You have no family here I have seen many cases like yours You need to go back to Japan ” I remember lying in bed, thinking, “That’s the last thing I would do. I will not go back to Japan just because I got sick.”

However, there was one truth in what she said I had no one other than my beloved cat Would it truly be a struggle if I chose to stay in Sydney?

You know the expression, "Where there is a will, there is a way"? One day, a friend of mine, Sue, texted me out of the blue, asking how I was doing I told her that I was very sick and had been admitted to the hospital She immediately stepped in to be my carer She provided me with everything I needed and so much more Another social worker informed me about the financial deeply cared about me They kept me company and even asked their daughter to bring me a jacket to keep warm Even after I moved to another ward, they came to see me every day until they were discharged There was also another patient who asked Keith to give me chocolate and a jumper I was incredibly touched by the kindness of people I had just met

Of course, the doctors and nurses were always there for me too They not only treated me and took care of me but were also a tremendous source of emotional support I looked forward to seeing them every morning Their level of commitment, dedication, and professionalism is beyond words

In life, things happen for a reason. I thought about why I had to go through all of this. This experience taught me that there are people who genuinely want to help me and that it’s okay to ask for help. I also learned about the power of mindset.

Whatever the challenge may be, your experiences are greatly influenced by your mindset When I was diagnosed, I chose to focus on what was within my control the things I could do When the social worker advised me to go back to Japan, which was actually harder to hear than the diagnosis itself, I chose to listen to my intuition. When I thought I had no one to look after me (other than the doctors and nurses), I chose to reach out and connect with others. As a result, my hospital experience was filled with cheer and positivity There was no room for self-pity or suffering because I knew that everyone, including my family and myself, wanted me to get better No matter how hard treatments were, my gratitude for everyone and determination to get better did not let me fall off the wagon

Almost seven months later, I am still receiving treatment and continue to enjoy my time at the hospital My takeaway from this experience is that we can overcome any life challenge, as long as we have the right mindset

I want to conclude by expressing my deepest gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at Royal North Shore Hospital, as well as to Sue, Keith, Linda, my family, Nicole, Grace, Carrie, Rochelle, Jess, Luke, Glenn, Stephanie, Kelley, Andrea, and rest of the Women With Altitude community. You are the reason I am where I am today. Thank you so much!

I am excited to embark on the next chapter of my life and restart my business as an Animal Communicator and Reiki Healer.
