Cancer Wellness Support

In Australia, over 1 million people are living with cancer. In 2023, approximately 165,000 new cases were diagnosed—an average of 452 per day.

Since 2005, Cancer Wellness Support has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and health outcomes for individuals and their families living with cancer, within a compassionate and supportive community.

Our person-centred approach prioritises empathy, inclusivity, and affordability.

It is estimated that up to two-thirds of individuals living with cancer incorporate complementary therapies into their treatment journey (Cancer Council Australia). However, financial constraints hinder 82% of people living with cancer from pursuing these therapies, with 50% citing cost as their sole barrier (National Institute of Complementary Medicine).

Our focus encompasses all types of cancer, aiming to reduce feelings of isolation while cultivating robust social support networks and a sense of belonging.

We are a locally based, not-for-profit organisation servicing the Blue Mountains, Penrith, and Hawkesbury regions. Central to our mission is increasing the use of and participation in complementary therapies, support groups, workshops, and other activities tailored to support individuals along their cancer journey.

Additionally, accessibility to integrative health services poses a significant challenge.

Standard care often overlooks the management of treatment side effects and the mental health impacts of cancer (Australian Integrative Oncology Services).

All our profits are reinvested to deliver our affordable, person-centred cancer care.

In the 2023/24 financial year, we provided 6,849 subsidised complementary therapy sessions through our dedicated network of highly qualified therapists. Key therapies include counselling, massage, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, Qigong, reflexology, Reiki, lymphoedema management, expressive arts therapy, and Bowen therapy.

Being entirely self-funded, we rely on the generosity of our community through fundraising, donations, bequests, memberships, and sponsorships.

Our primary source of revenue is our Op Shops, located in Katoomba and Penrith, which are accredited by Charitable Reuse Australia.

These shops divert 95% of donated clothing items from landfill through repurposing, recycling, and fundraising. This provides a sustainable income source for our cause while offering stunning pieces at incredibly low costs to our local community.

None of this would be possible without the remarkable generosity of our volunteers, therapists, employees, values-aligned strategic partnerships, and the broader community.

Whether it’s contributing time, financial support, offering services at reduced rates, or donating goods for our Op Shops, every contribution accumulates into a communityled effort toward our mission of supporting people living with cancer and deeply rooted in this extraordinary spirit of giving.

For every $35 donated, a complementary therapy session is subsidised. All funds raised at the Altitude Awards will go towards our personalised programs—making a meaningful difference to people in our community living with cancer.
