Welcome to April’s edition of the Women Thrive Magazine. Last month was nothing short of amazing. As I write this, I am in deep reflection, gratitude, pride, amazement, and admiration for our collective of women within this community
During the Women Thrive Summit 2024, I watched women in their true power, essence and glory. They showed up with powerful and inspiring talks. They shared their missions. They inspired others all around the world
It may sound cliche, but I deeply know and see ‘Empowered Women, Empower Women’ - this was our motto when I first started my community back in 2017 - and watching it truly play out in the real world is beyond amazing

I left my corporate leadership role 7 years ago to start my own business. Initially struggling with visibility, I invested heavily in coaching programmes that taught a ‘one size fits all’ approach to visibility, sales and business strategy that I didn’t feel aligned to.

Elevating your personal brand to exude authority and trust requires some strategic planning and action. In today’s competitive environment, it is more important than ever to have a personal brand that stands out from the rest and helps you position yourself as the go-to expert. So what does it take?
If you desire to establish yourself in your industry as the go-to expert, you first need to define your niche. What industry do you want to work in? Let’s say you are a health coach, although you are a coaching professional, it doesn’t mean your audience will be other coaches.

Thrive Talks Brisbane unfolded at the Brighton Homes Arena in Greater Springfield, home to the Brisbane Lions' AFLW team, offering state-of-the-art facilities that promote equality for female players and elevate the standards for events and community engagement.
Aligning the event with International Women's Day and its theme, "Count Her In," provided an inclusive and inspiring platform to connect stories and a deeper vision of women's empowerment a space where voices and stories could be heard Gratitude extends to the speakers, the Women Thrive Media team, and all who contributed to the planning and preparation for this remarkable day The quality of attendees, approximately 40 women strong, showcased the phenomenal calibre of women present their inspirational talks

Q. I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
I’ve had to reinvent my business a number of times along the way Each time, I feel that I have embodied a whole new level of wisdom that I can share in a more meaningful and unique way than I did before Oftentimes we can get so rigid with our purpose and either die trying to make it happen in the way we originally planned… or we have to evolve and reshape it as we learn about what works and doesn’t. I’ve had moments where I was too attached to what I had created and that got me in a lot of trouble as far as getting into debt and it affecting my well-being. As soon as I released my expectation of a certain outcome, then entirely new ways of being, creating and delivering came through in exciting ways.
Q. Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you?
I specialize in helping heart-centered individuals define their business vision and confidently articulate their message My approach focuses on guiding clients to step into their Higher Self, shedding self-doubt and false narratives I aim to prevent clients from setting up their enterprises based on ego or limiting beliefs Instead, I empower them to uncover and connect with their brilliance, and attract soul-aligned opportunities, fostering both personal growth, meaningful impact and wealth

Q. What advice can you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs?
Stop following other people, copying methods or solely relying on others to tell you how to run your business Step into the leadership position and hold your boundaries against anything you know in your gut is going to hurt rather than help you It’s great to research and learn from others, but then give that approach your unique flavor or point of view, or decide not to do it at all There’s no fast and hard rules around conducting business I’m always a proponent of questioning everything! Do your due diligence and research so you don’t get taken advantage of by people selling you services…Unfortunately not everyone is ethical in their dealings, even if they say “soulful” or “heartcentered” in their marketing.
Q. What is the most important lesson you learned as an entrepreneur?
Patience and resilience! Understand that it’s a journey and don’t succumb to looking around and thinking other people are succeeding faster and that they have it all figured out. A lot of times the biggest breakthroughs don’t come from a specific strategy you utilized but a personal shift you made in your energy, mindset, self-image. Transmuting your impatience and/or anxiety can simultaneously transform how effective you are in your work and bring in more abundance If you fail at something it doesn’t mean you should quit Pick yourself back up, reflect and tweak or align yourself with a new decision tree By testing and iterating, you’ll always be lead to the right path so don’t despair!
Q. How have your life experiences shaped you as a leader and business owner?
I’ve moved around many times in my life Both geographically across several countries and career wise within different roles and organizations You could say that I’ve had more than 9 lives all wrapped up in this one! It’s made me a more dynamic and versatile person because I know that whenever I am going through a transition, that I trust in my ability to learn, figure it out and enjoy the new adventure up ahead. I’ve been exposed to many diverse groups of individuals and I believe that has given me a unique ability to empathize with the clients I work with, and to forge beautiful connections and collaborations with people of all walks of life. If there was a new type of united nations organization I would probably join it, because I deeply celebrate the uniqueness that we all bring and at the same time believe we all have so much more in common than we think.
Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?
It really starts with becoming an example of someone who is a quiet rebel, and has enough courage to be the creator and orchestrator of their life By demonstrating that I am succeeding on my terms, I know it has a ripple effect to inspire others to feel that it’s possible for them too

Nowadays, building a business website or e-commerce store is easier than ever The site does not cost much, your online store is not limited to working hours, and it is the best means of free advertising
Having a small business website is not just about selling your goods and services
On your website, potential clients will be able to familiarize themselves with what products or services you offer, view a gallery of your images or video materials, familiarize themselves with all the benefits of your product or service, view the price list, your location, and much more
Of course, I can immediately buy a product or make an appointment for the service you offer from your website, regardless of whether it's a non-working day or maybe you're on vacation
If this was the only reason on the list, it would be enough! Think about it Would you trust a business that doesn't have a website? Let's recall the statistics from a while ago: 81% of people in the world research a product or service online before making a purchase decision If you don't have a website, you have no chance of winning a share of that market
Of course, the fact that you don't have a website does not matter to clients and customers, they will already find what they are looking for on your competitor's website On the other hand, your site can be available 24/7/365 even when you are not
The fact is that the existence of a website increases the trust of potential customers or clients toward your company It's also the best place for people to learn more about you and your products or services. A good website will allow you to make a strong positive impression on your potential customers and clients. There they will be able to learn more about your products and services, see where you are and what your business hours are, and much more.
3. A website is not as expensive as you think
It’s true - websites are definitely not expensive these days. Especially if you consider all the benefits that you can get from the site, as well as the fact that you pay for the creation of the site once, and use it for an unlimited period of time

Sometimes you want to see what is offered on the market, sometimes you want to check and compare prices, and sometimes you simply need the phone number and address of a company, salon, or store

Icame to this work through my own experience of being diagnosed with advanced Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 33. As a young mother of 3 young children and owner of 2 businesses at the time, this felt like a death sentence! I had been struggling with various symptoms that, in the beginning, were random and would resolve… until they did not resolve anymore. My first symptoms began when I was 9 years old and continued to wax and wane through my teens and early 20s. By my late 20s and early 30s, migraines were a part of my world daily to varying degrees from pulsing, to causing blindness in one eye and cone vision in the other. My left side was completely numb, and my right side was beginning to follow suit. I was dizzy most of the time and would walk along the walls of my home or from one piece of furniture to another to keep upright. My left leg was minimally responsive, and I would fall often. Holding onto anything with my right hand required intense concentration I was one scared Momma! How was I going to continue to raise 3 boys like this, much less keep running my business? As it turned out, I sold one business and closed the other because I could not keep up

During my diagnosis appointment with my neurologist, his words were, “I’m sorry Melissa, you have MS ” His next directives were to choose from two immune modulating drugs he was suggesting for me to “hopefully slow down the progression”, and go to the medical shop down the street and get a wheelchair along with equipment to handicap my house He shared that with the speed at which my disease was progressing, I would be bedbound by age 45 and dead by age 50 My brain froze! I knew what MS looked like My mom had it, my grandmother had passed away with it I chose to do nothing, not take the drugs, not get a wheelchair, and simply went home The next months were filled with deep fear and grief Grieving the life that I wanted and would never have Grieving the fact that I wouldn’t get to see my kids grow up, to dance at their weddings, to play with my grandkids and grow old
This experience of full recovery from a disease that we are told there is no recovery from fuels my belief that we CAN be well, we CAN recover to a level we can’t imagine, if we lean in and take care of the imbalances in our bodies That belief is strengthened every day as I work with clients who are leaning in and becoming deeply well

Two distinct places of choice, I feel, were turning points for me. One was when I chose to not take the suggested immune modulating drugs. I knew in my deepest heart that drugs weren’t for me. Now I know that they would have harmed my immune system so deeply that I likely wouldn’t have been able to reach the level of sustainable recovery that I have now. The second was when I chose to begin seeing a practitioner. We didn’t have the money I didn’t know if it would work But I was willing to think outside of the box and try! I chose to invest in my own recovery Now, I get to live fully, vibrantly, and with passion, doing what fills my soul!

Shake it off: Before entering the event, release tension by shaking your hands, stamping your feet, or doing star jumps to ease nervous energy
Breathe: Imagine the rhythmic deep breaths you take when you're upset or in distress, those quick succession inhales and exhales that help soothe your emotions. Recreate this pattern by taking 6 to 10 deep breaths, filling your lungs with oxygen to regulate your nervous system and induce a sense of calm before stepping into the event.

I travelled ten hours to attend a networking event in London, en route, I set the intention to connect with a film director, albeit unsure of why or what I would say. Despite my uncertainties, I persisted. That evening, as I shared my story, I sensed a serendipitous alignment.
Fast forward a couple of months, a connection from the event tagged me in a link from a film director seeking individuals to feature in a documentary. While the meeting is yet to take place at the time of writing, its potential ripple effects are already evident. I've secured front cover magazine opportunities, a TV interview in Las Vegas, and various other media prospects, all stemming from the intention I set that day

The list goes on! Yet, most of us would not call ourselves a writer. And, that’s a problem. Let me explain!

As a powerful and empowering woman, you have a deep desire to create a lasting impact that will be felt long after you are gone One of the most powerful ways you already are and can continue to leave a lasting impact is through your words Yet, historically, the voices in the world of business –the articles, the books, the podcasts, the leaders –have been predominantly pale and male
So, as a female in business, you have had little to no other model for sharing your voice, writing your messages, or connecting with your audience other than those of men When we combine our lack of identity as writers with the models for writing in business coming from people that often don’t sound and/or look like us, it’s easy to see how we might feel stuck and unsure of ourselves when we plan our social media posts for the week. When we as women don’t recognize, claim, and share our powerful voices through the simple act of writing, we are blocking the impact we long to create.
Here are three embodied mindset shifts to begin creating a deeper impact and build a legacy with your words.

Embodied Shift #1: Share your authentic voice
Writing in your authentic voice is an essential approach to help you create a lasting impact on the world For me as an entrepreneur, and someone who coaches others on writing, I often see a disconnect between someone’s natural voice and how they write for their website or social media posts, for example Business owners, especially women, often feel they need to change the way they would naturally speak or write in order to ‘perform’ or sound like someone they think their audience would like to hear from. Here’s the secret: your aligned audience, your ideal client, they want the fabulous, authentic, amazing version of you. They want to hear your genuine voice when they read your next newsletter or blog.
They want to feel like they are sitting next to you, like they are getting to know the real you, so they can make a discerning decision on whether to work with you or not. What are some special terms or phrases you like to say or have been pillars in your business process? What are some fun words that people say from where you live? Don’t be afraid to add these personal touches, your unique way of phrasing something, to the messages you are putting out in the world.

Embodied Shift #2: There is no one right way to write
There is no right way to write, so stop trying When we are taught writing from a sense of ‘one right way’ or that some writing is ‘good’ and some writing is ‘bad’, writing is being used as an act of oppression There, I said it [insert deep exhale]
I am passionate about making sure every entrepreneur is connected to and writes from their heart It may feel like a risk because it may go against some of the bro-marketing strategies we’ve been taught about potentially toxic ways to attract a client or get a sale, like “write about clients’ pain points” or “keep it short and sweet”. For many heart-centered, mission-driven female entrepreneurs, these tactics may feel unaligned, even sleazy, which is not how you want to feel when you are trying to write messages that genuinely connect with your audience.
When we find a sense of play in our messaging, freedom shows up. Knowing there is no right or wrong way to share your message, what “shoulds” would you love to let go of in your next marketing message to your audience?
Embodied Shift #3: Your words matter
I want you to know that you have everything you need to create powerful writing that connects with people in ways that will make them excited to work with you! So, if there is no right or wrong way to write, and you actually embraced your authentic voice, what would you love to say? What do you wish everyone you came into contact with knew or understood? What would you love your audience to feel after reading your next email or visiting your website?
Whatever is showing up, I want you to wave the biggest permission wand for yourself, and write those words, share that message. Someone is hoping for some inspiration to help them take their next powerful steps, so what if you have just the words they need right now? It is when we embody our authentic voice and let go of how we think we are supposed to write in our business that we find our aligned and ideal clients, which helps us create a bigger impact.

In a world filled with the noise of external expectations, my breaking-out, healing journey has been centered around two potent forces within me: my voice as an agent of change and my gift of sight, offering laser beam clarity in truth The irony is not lost on me these abilities that form the core of my being are also the keys to breaking free from the clutches of impostor syndrome
Let me intertwine my own transformation story into the broader conversation about impostor syndrome a battle many face, yet few openly discuss From a young age, I unwittingly became a trigger for my mother My truth became a challenge to the narratives she clung to Labeled as a liar, I was forced to look into a mirror to recite untruths and tell myself I was the liar I was labeled. My feelings were often dismissed as incorrect or untrue, replaced by a dictated ‘truth’ that I had to accept. I learned to weave tales of illness to escape undesirable situations, seeking out attention and reinforcing narratives that painted me as the troublemaker. In the eyes of those around me, I became the drama queen, the liar, the manipulator every role she needed me to play.

To break free from the clutches of impostor syndrome, one must first recognize its signs Do you ever feel like a fraud at work? Have you achieved significant milestones but can't shake the nagging feeling of luck? This invisible yet palpable sense of doubt is more common than you think This internal conflict isn't unique to my story Impostor syndrome, that insidious whisper of doubt, creeps into the minds of high achievers, successful women, and individuals across various walks of life. It thrives on self-doubt, discounting every success as luck and amplifying each failure as confirmation of perceived inadequacy. Often linked to some belief we have agreed to, even unconsciously.
My teenage and early adult years were marked by a battle against the narratives that defined me. I despised the person I believed I was the constant chaos, the lies, the drama queen. I put everyone's needs above mine, seeking validation in co-dependent relationships. I moved within others' projections of me, always yearning for acceptance, while never being able to know who I was or what I felt The detrimental effects of this cycle extend beyond the realm of mere thoughts Stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem become unwelcome companions on the journey, sapping the joy out of accomplishments and transforming success into a source of distress
Healing as the Antidote
My journey towards unbecoming unfolded as I immersed myself in the teachings and practices of healing, natural law, and energy medicine The decision to start this journey rippled across my life, bringing pride in reclaiming my truth and illuminating a path for others to find theirs To overcome impostor syndrome, one must not only spot its signs but actively challenge the thoughts that perpetuate it. We'll delve into strategies to change your mindset, confront and discuss your feelings, and embrace the imperfections that make you human. Liberation from impostor syndrome is not just a personal triumph; it's an invitation to reclaim your narrative.
Breaking out requires dismantling the walls built by false beliefs and stepping into the authenticity that lies within Here are some strategies to spot and overcome impostor syndrome:
Shifting Your Mindset: First, you must become aware of your discordant thoughts Then you can begin to replace those unbalanced thoughts with intentional affirmations

Identifying how you feel allows you to process it. Allowing your emotions to flow, and talking about the false belief systems helps you to liberate yourself from them.
Understanding That Everyone Makes Mistakes: Recognise that making mistakes is part of life and does not make you a fraud. Use mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow. Acknowledge that we can also take in new information and change the way we operate, uncovering a new version of ourselves.
Self-Compassion and Love: Practice selfcompassion by acknowledging your feelings and responding with love True compassion is love in action - it liberates us from suffering Remind yourself that everyone experiences some degree of pain at some point in their lives
