Dayle Lynn (Keitel) Henson

May 15, 1913 - January 25, 2012

March 6, 1945 - January 22, 2012

Harold Bern Headrick, beloved Assemblies of God pastor, passed away in La Pine, Oregon on January 25, 2012. There was a viewing on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, Colorado. A cryptside service was held on Monday, February 6, 2012, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley, Colorado.

A memorial service was held on Friday, February 3, at High Lakes Christian Church in La Pine. Dayle was born March 6, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Francis and Mabel (Garrison) Keitel. She graduated from Kearny High School in New Jersey in 1963. She married John L. Groom in Vacaville, California.

Rev. Headrick was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on May 15, 1913, the son of Bern and Early Janet (Holmes) Headrick. He arrived in Hawaii as a missionary in 1947 and resigned his final pastorate at age 89. He served many years as Superintendent of the Hawaii District Assemblies of God and received his Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Bethany College in Santa Cruz, California. He was instrumental in assisting churches to receive financing from Church Extension Plan and personally worked to help build more than 50 churches. He was involved in every aspect of building from permits to dedication, including cleaning out cesspools in Wahiawa in 1950 and repairs to the roof in Kapaa after Hurricane Iniki in 1992. Rev. Headrick and his first wife, Olive Lucille Melcher, had been married 48 years when she passed away in 1981. Together they established many churches and the first Berean Bible School in Hawaii. In 1982, he married Helen Lucille (Jackson) Kelly, who helped to continue his ministry. Helen passed away in 2008.

Dayle worked as a school bus driver for 22 years, both in New Jersey and in California. She was a foster parent for ten years, and she had 12 foster children. Dayle was also the activities director for the Prairie House and was fondly referred to as the “Prairie House Mom”. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Her hobbies included sewing, jet skiing, camping and waterskiing. Dayle was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dennis Keitel; and her beloved husband, John. Survivors include her son, Tom Phillips of La Pine, Oregon; daughters, Staci Phillips-Wiemelt and Kristin Sunderman, both of Pennsylvania; son, Drew Henson-Groom of Bend, Oregon; nephew, Russell Keitel of New Jersey; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edward “Ed” Robert Konantz February 28, 1921 - January 28, 2012

Edward “Ed” R. Konantz, of La Pine, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was 89 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial took place on February 3, 2012, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in La Pine. Ed was born February 28, 1921, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Jacob and Mary (Boik) Konantz. He grew up in Salem, Oregon, and retired to Central Oregon in 1985. In 1942, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He went to Sheppard Field Air Force Base for basic training and was stationed in both France and Germany during World War II. He was honorably discharged. Ed was the owner/operator of a landscaping company for sixty years. He also worked for the Salem School District, and he retired in 1985. He married Jennifer Cousins on August 21, 2010. Ed loved fishing, gardening and playing bingo. He also enjoyed raising sled dogs and canaries, and he had a special love for birds. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to Newberry Hospice, P.O. Deputy Pete Penzenik Receives Officer Of The Year Award

On January 23, 2012, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the Department Executive Committee for the American Legion had identified Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Pete Penzenik as its Officer of the Year for the state of Oregon. Deputy Penzenik was additionally recognized at the local American Legion Post 45 in La Pine, as its Officer of the Year. Deputy Penzenik will be receiving the award from Post 45 at their regular meeting on February 14th, and will be receiving the state award at the American Legion state convention being held in Redmond this June. Deputy Penzenik has been employed with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for 28 years and his work as a Deputy Sheriff has been exemplary. Throughout his career Pete has taken an active role in improving various elements of crime scene investigations. His innovative ideas include; enhancement of photography, development of latent fingerprint methods and he was a pioneer of footwear and vehicle tire impressions for Deschutes County. He serves as an agency expert in these areas, and provides instruction to his fellow deputies on these disciplines. Outside of his duties as Deputy Sheriff, Pete has been a fixture within the La Pine community. He consistently volunteers his time in a number of areas, most notably chairing the La Pine Christmas Basket committee that works each year to provide less fortunate families in the greater southern Deschutes County area with meals and gifts during the Christmas season. Sheriff Blanton states, “The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have had Pete as part of our team for the past 28 years.
