Two Faithful Servants Retire
I have such great respect for those who have served on the coaching staff at Wisco. There are hundreds of people who have supported the education-based mission of our school’s athletic program. They have been the ones in the trenches working with our students and developing relationships with them. We have the great distinction that our coaches have an eternal win in mind for our students, which far exceeds any earthly scoreboard. WLHS has truly been blessed with outstanding servant leaders on our coaching staff.
I am forever indebted to my wife and our children for their sacrifices along the way and I thank them for their love and understanding all these years. I will continue to pray that the Lord of the Church blesses his ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. This school has been a leader in educational ministry since 1903, and I pray it continues to be a brilliant beacon for the Gospel.”
Significant Stats
Mr. Jeff Sitz (‘74) Jeff Sitz (’74) has been synonymous with WLHS athletics since 1981 when he returned to his alma mater to teach. He became athletic director in 1985 and for nearly 40 years has worked tirelessly to expand and improve the school’s athletic offerings, its training, practice and competition facilities, and its athletic prowess and stature.
In His Own Words “I have spent nearly every meaningful year of my life anchored in some way to Wisconsin Lutheran High School. I was the son of a faculty member, a student, coach, teacher, parent, and athletic director. Although I was born in 1956, I feel like I have been here since my dad, Carleton, was called to Lutheran High School in 1949.
Since 1985, WLHS coaches and athletes have won: • 26 WISAA/WIAA state titles and been WISAA/ WIAA state runners up 26 times • 11 State Cheerleading Titles • 178 Conference titles in the Wisconsin Little Ten and the Woodland Conferences Sitz has been recognized by his peers locally and nationally: • NIAAA Distinguished Service Award – 2021 • Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association Athletic Director of the Year – 2020 • National Federation of State High Schools Citation Award – 2017 • NIAAA State Award of Merit – 2011 • WADA Distinguished Service Award – 2007 • WISADA Athletic Director of the Year – 1991 & 1997
I cannot begin to put words together that adequately express my gratitude to our Almighty God for the privilege of growing, learning, and then serving in these halls. Names, faces, and events flood back as I think about this blessing. I am the person I am today so heavily shaped and influenced by the teachers, faculty, and staff that I experienced as a student and then later those I have been honored to serve with as a member of the faculty.
