Welcome
A Message from Dr. Ken Fisher President of the WLHS Conference A Day of Baptisms Not Soon to be Forgotten Twenty-five students stepped forward to receive the blessings of baptism during a special chapel service in May! Can you imagine that? Twenty-five. That’s not a misprint. It is evidence of God’s grace in a more profound measure than we’ve ever witnessed before at a baptismal service. Dr. Ken Fisher

When I served in a parish, I enjoyed many pastoral acts that I was privileged to be part of but something was always very special about an adult baptism.
2021-22 School Theme
There was much rejoicing among the families, students, faculty, and staff — and in heaven. Jesus said, “there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10). How much rejoicing is there among the angels over twenty-five?
Compelled by Christ’s love, guided by the Great Commission, and rooted in God’s Word . . .
Like our student body, the group reflected a great diversity of backgrounds. As our Campus Pastor Phil Huebner noted, “There were freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors: two sets of brothers, a student from China and a student from Nigeria. This is what God’s Kingdom is all about and this is a testimony to the unfathomable reaches of God’s love. What a merciful and gracious God we have!” Indeed! Daily, I thank God that every single one of our faculty and staff can witness to students, creating an eternal impact in their lives. But God is also using students who are also witnessing to their fellow students. Many of those baptized received the powerful encouragement of classmates! Maybe you’re like me. Sometimes we need to take a step back to remind ourselves of why we are doing what we are doing. This special day was another powerful reminder of why we are a Great Commission school that nurtures those who already know Jesus Christ as their Savior and lovingly introduces him to those who don’t yet confess him. Because you care about this ministry, I wanted to highlight this incredible display of God’s grace in action and invite your continued prayers for them. Rejoicing with the angels, 2

Playing guard for the Vikings, Glenn helped lead the Vikings to the State sectionals and a 25-3 record. He averaged 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game. “Basically, it was a blessing that I could still play,” says Glenn. “God has a plan for everyone and we just need to be patient.” Glenn’s spirit, determination, courage, and trust in God has been recognized with numerous awards. • • • •

Jordan Glenn (‘22)
For the past 18 months, senior Jordan Glenn (’22) has been dealing with a significant health challenge. In January 2021, Glenn collapsed during a boys’ varsity basketball game due to cardiac arrest. He was brought back to life by nurses who ran onto the court to save him. At the time, Glenn said, “It felt like everybody was praying for me and that meant a lot to me. It brought joy to my heart and my mother’s heart. Ever since, I’ve become closer to God and have been praying. It really showed me that he’s here for us.” After months of evaluation, monitoring, and the implantation of a defibrillator, Glenn received clearance from his doctors and was able to participate in the 2021-22 season.
Jordan Glenn was one of seven to receive the 2021 Perseverance Award. Perseverance Awards are given to senior student athletes who have overcome adversity (physical, emotional, personal) to compete and/or excel in interscholastic sports.
Jordan Glenn was selected as the 2022 Wisconsin recipient of the Spirit of Sport Award presented by the WIAA, the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and the National Federation of State High School Associations. WHERE SUCCESS MEANS MORE

The Frey family (pictured left to right): Jacob (‘15), Kelsey (‘13), Jenna (‘17), Lisa and Randy
The Mundt Family
The Frey Family
Family Connections: Pat (Trinkl) Mundt (’69) married fellow classmate Tom Vik (’69) and the pair were together for 35 years until Tom passed away in 2008. She later married Allen Mundt and became a mom to his grandson Mac (’24).
Path to WLHS: Linda (Frey) Joers (‘77) was the only one of her four siblings to graduate from WLHS. In fact, Linda helped pay for her own tuition. Since finances were a consideration for the family, her three brothers went to South Milwaukee High School. Hardy, the oldest Frey, was at Wisco his freshman year but transferred to South Milwaukee as a sophomore.
Path to WLHS: “We’re a nontraditional family with a grandma and grandpa raising a grandson. Because of that, we liked the diversity at WLHS. Plus, Mac shadowed his cousin, Jordan Newell (‘22), for a day and knew Wisco was where he wanted to go.” Pat Mundt on WLHS: “The Wisco teachers are extremely engaged with their students and relate to them so well. Today’s students have endless opportunities. No matter what avenue a student wants to take, the teachers and staff are ready and willing to help them meet their goals.” Mac Mundt on WLHS: “The first thing I noticed my freshman year was the sense of family and community. It truly was a welcoming and accepting place where I could fit in easily and find things tailored to my interests.”
Family Connections: The Freys became a generational family when Linda and Dan Joers (‘77) sent their two sons, Gary and Brian, to WLHS. Flash forward and Linda’s three brothers – Hardy, Brian, and Randy – also sent their children to WLHS for a total of 15 young men and women. The final Frey, Grace, graduated in 2021. Randy Frey on Why WLHS: “My two brothers and I didn’t attend Wisco but Linda did and she liked it. She was the first one to send her children to WLHS, and we heard really great things about the high school. For my wife and me, it was important to invest in our children’s Christian education beyond eighth grade. We wanted them to be in the Word on a daily basis during their high school years to help solidify their spiritual lives for college.”

The Whitelaw Family
The Baer Family
Path to WLHS: For Essie and Willie Whitelaw, having their son Eric (’92) attend Wisco was a natural progression since he went to Atonement Lutheran Grade School and they wanted him to continue in his Christian education.
Path to WLHS: Sandra (Mancia) Baer grew up going to Catholic grade schools and, when the time came, attended nearby Shorewood High School. While she had many positive experiences during high school, she missed learning about Jesus on a daily basis.
Family Connections: For Eric, when it was time to select a high school for his two children, Morgan (’21) and Eric Jr. (’16), he could have easily sent them to Homestead, which was just five minutes away and free. Instead, he wanted them at WLHS.
Family Connections: Sandra’s husband, Nate Baer (’92), and his three sisters all attended Wisco. In addition, his grandfather, mother, two uncles, and aunt are WLHS grads. The couple’s oldest daughter, Ahnna (’22), just graduated from Wisco. Their son, Everett (’24), is a junior and son Julian (’27) will become a Viking in a year.
Eric Whitelaw on Why WLHS: “We literally drove across town for Christian education. That’s how important it was to me that my children attend Wisco. Wisco gives you a strong moral compass and a standard that guides your life because you know what’s right and wrong. When you base your life on Christ, it answers a lot of questions and helps you when there are struggles in life.” Essie Whitelaw on WLHS: “I’ve seen the impact Wisco had on my son and two grandchildren. It’s a school that just works. It has the diversity of kids from all over the city, state, and world. It has experienced teachers who never let students underestimate themselves and what they can achieve. It has strong academics and enrichment activities, and it has the Christian foundation.”
Sandra Baer on Why WLHS: “We choose to send our children to Wisco because I’ve seen the close friendships that form when Christ is at the center. My husband and his sisters have high school friends who stick by each other through thick and thin, lifting each other up during difficult times and celebrating the joyful times together. At Wisco, my children get the opportunity to share their faith, grow their faith, and live their faith; and that is something that will always be with them.”
and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Driven by Excellence
WLHS’ Building on the Legacy campaign recently hit a number of milestones. This May, a groundbreaking ceremony officially marked the beginning of construction on the outdoor complex that will serve Wisco students, athletes, musicians, and grade schoolers who are part of the Jr. Vikings program. Building on the Legacy is a $6.5M capital campaign to make upgrades to our outdoor athletic facilities. Through this campaign, WLHS will put turf on the main and multi-purpose fields, pour a new track, add a digital scoreboard, upgrade lighting, increase parking, and more! Currently, there is still $1M that needs to be raised in order to complete the project by early fall. Visit wlhs.org/botl to support Building on the Legacy.
Future WLHS Vikings in Jr. Vikings athletics
“The Christian education that we give our students, doesn’t end in the classroom. It continues onto the track, onto the football field, and the soccer field. Our coaches understand that winning and loosing isn’t the ultimate goal. It’s the Christian development of the souls of the students they lead.”

I learned how to lead with a Christian attitude when not everyone has your same beliefs.”

Two Faithful Servants Retire
I have such great respect for those who have served on the coaching staff at Wisco. There are hundreds of people who have supported the education-based mission of our school’s athletic program. They have been the ones in the trenches working with our students and developing relationships with them. We have the great distinction that our coaches have an eternal win in mind for our students, which far exceeds any earthly scoreboard. WLHS has truly been blessed with outstanding servant leaders on our coaching staff.
I am forever indebted to my wife and our children for their sacrifices along the way and I thank them for their love and understanding all these years. I will continue to pray that the Lord of the Church blesses his ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. This school has been a leader in educational ministry since 1903, and I pray it continues to be a brilliant beacon for the Gospel.”
Significant Stats
Mr. Jeff Sitz (‘74) Jeff Sitz (’74) has been synonymous with WLHS athletics since 1981 when he returned to his alma mater to teach. He became athletic director in 1985 and for nearly 40 years has worked tirelessly to expand and improve the school’s athletic offerings, its training, practice and competition facilities, and its athletic prowess and stature.
In His Own Words “I have spent nearly every meaningful year of my life anchored in some way to Wisconsin Lutheran High School. I was the son of a faculty member, a student, coach, teacher, parent, and athletic director. Although I was born in 1956, I feel like I have been here since my dad, Carleton, was called to Lutheran High School in 1949.
Since 1985, WLHS coaches and athletes have won: • 26 WISAA/WIAA state titles and been WISAA/ WIAA state runners up 26 times • 11 State Cheerleading Titles • 178 Conference titles in the Wisconsin Little Ten and the Woodland Conferences Sitz has been recognized by his peers locally and nationally: • NIAAA Distinguished Service Award – 2021 • Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association Athletic Director of the Year – 2020 • National Federation of State High Schools Citation Award – 2017 • NIAAA State Award of Merit – 2011 • WADA Distinguished Service Award – 2007 • WISADA Athletic Director of the Year – 1991 & 1997
I cannot begin to put words together that adequately express my gratitude to our Almighty God for the privilege of growing, learning, and then serving in these halls. Names, faces, and events flood back as I think about this blessing. I am the person I am today so heavily shaped and influenced by the teachers, faculty, and staff that I experienced as a student and then later those I have been honored to serve with as a member of the faculty. Two Faithful Servants Retire A Beloved Teacher
Former students share their memories of Al Greschner and the impact he had on their lives.
Lindsey Dausel (‘00)
“Mr. Greschner is the reason I am a teacher today. He continually told me while I was in physics that I should be a teacher. I was so set against being a teacher when I was in high school. Now I couldn’t imagine not teaching!”
Timothy Meitner (‘00) “Whether out on the football field, battling on the wrestling mats, or in the classroom, Al always stressed Christian leadership. He found a way to incorporate humor, meaningful messages and, most importantly, Christ. It was an honor to be his student and one of his athletes for four years.”
Reed Goede (‘14)
Mr. Al Greschner For 35 years, Wisco students have been blessed to have Al Greschner as their teacher or coach. Greschner joined WLHS in 1987 and over the years has taught physics, conceptual physics, freshman science, small engines, and Corinthians. He also dedicated decades to coaching wrestling and freshman football. “For me, it’s always been about the kids. I enjoy seeing them grow up and mature into young Christian men and women during their years at Wisco,” says Greschner. “I approach every class and every practice or game by sharing God’s word and applying it to life. The kids and I connect over that every day and that’s something I’m going to miss.”
“From homeroom to the football field, he had pure passion and intensity the whole time. That passion is because Mr. Greschner cared about every student and player he was in contact with. He is truly a one-of-a-kind teacher.”
Richard Ruth (‘88) “I had Mr. Greschner for physics and I still vividly remember his passion for teaching. He brought so much positive and passionate energy to the classroom. You couldn’t help but be excited about what he was teaching. What a gem that man is and such a model Christian teacher and servant. Bless you for all you’ve done for us Mr. Greschner.”
Tracy Garon (‘05)
“He was a caring teacher who was always willing to listen, and a passionate teacher who wanted you to learn. He is one of those guys who when I’ve been back to Wisco always says hello, and we chat about all of it. He had such an impact on my life and so many others’ lives with his Christ-driven attitude and love for his Savior.”

Certainty in Uncertain Times “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither the height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Class of 1950 Carol (Trupke) Ross April 29, 2022 Many of us are experiencing our own “ends” this time of year. Some of my family and friends are experiencing the “end of grade school years,” some have the “end of their high school or collegiate senior year,” and others are breathing a sigh of relief and sadness as their final child completes their educational journey. This can lead to fear and the uncertainty of what is next. Although their next steps had been decided, ultimately God has the final plans which might be entirely different. Uncertainty is something we will all deal with in our lives. What an amazing blessing our Lord has given us in Romans. It doesn’t matter what Satan or the world throws at us, and it doesn’t matter what the future holds because we know that we will not be separated “from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This is taught every day in the halls of WLHS, and we can be certain that this will continue to be taught for countless generations until Jesus takes us all home. The WLHS Foundation exists to ensure that students from all backgrounds can continue to grow and develop academically and spiritually. Be a part of the foundation family, assist in our ministry, and grant generations to come this eternal certainty. Give me a call, send an email or visit and let me share with you the many ways you can help. God’s blessings this summer.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28).

2022 WLHS Prism
The choirs and bands of Wisco delighted sold-out audiences with pop and Broadway hits at this year’s Prism concerts. Among them were steelpan performances, several vocal solos and duets, a clarinet ensemble, saxophone solo, Motown medley, and so much more! Thank you to students, Fine Arts and Tech Staff, and the many volunteers who poured hours of work into these inspiring performances!
