June is National Pride Month—a vibrant celebration of love, identity, and our LGBTQ+ community’s journey toward equality and acceptance. It’s a time to embrace who we are, honor the progress we have made, and stand united in support of one another. Rainbow flags will fill many streets, music will echoe through parades, and communities across the world will come together to say: “You are seen. You are loved. You belong.”
Pride is more than just a celebration; it’s a powerful reminder of resilience and joy. It commemorates the brave individuals who stood up at Stonewall and paved the way for future generations to live more openly and authentically. Their courage has blossomed into a global movement of pride and empowerment that grows stronger every year.
During Pride Month, we recognize the beauty of diversity and uplift LGBTQ+ voices, art, and stories. Whether through attending a parade, raising a flag, volunteering, or simply having a heartfelt conversation, every act of support matters. It’s about creating space where everyone can shine, be proud of who we are, and feel safe in our truth.
Let June be filled with color, compassion, and connection. Celebrate love in all its forms, cheer on progress, and keep pushing for a more inclusive world. Pride is joyful, powerful, and unstoppable—and together, we make it even brighter.
Have a Happy Pride Month!

Rafa Carvajal: What are you looking forward to the most about performing at this year’s Arsht CommuniTEA Dance?
Vincint: This will be my first time performing in Miami and I’ve heard for years about how incredible the performers and drag community is there, so I’m excited to see everyone finally and to bring some of my own personal joy to the event. We could all use a good time right now!
RC: Why do you think it’s important to celebrate Pride in events like the Arsht CommuniTEA Dance?
V: Now more than ever, we have to be relentless with our joy and showing up for each other. No one is going to stand up for us like we will. Making space to celebrate and see each
What are you planning for your CommuniTEA Dance performance?
V: A high energy night of music, letting go of your troubles and getting lost in the moment. Maybe a new song or two!
You are also invited to explore the Arsht’s CommuniTEA Dance Pride Marketplace spotlighting local LGBTQ+ and ally organizations, artisans, creatives, and small businesses. Food
RC: What does Pride mean to you?
Pride is looking at our community and seeing myself in them and doing everything in my power to uplift and protect it. It me means shouting at the top of our lungs that we are valuable and deserve just as much as our straight counterparts. Pride is our light when the world tells us that we are the darkness. It’s what makes us so special.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?
V: We all deserve to be heard, loved, seen and protected. Remember, when they come for one of us, they come for us all, so stand tall in who you are and make sure you never stop speaking up for what’s right. You aren’t alone.

A new dining spot in Coral Gables called Arcano delivers a creative twist on Hispanic cuisine by combining tradition and innovation in all their dishes. The Spanish name of the restaurant refers to the thrill of the unexpected, so Arcano’s goal is to make your dining experience both stimulating and unpredictable by delivering dishes from a wide range of Hispanic nations. “Hispanic cuisine has an abundance of flavors and influences that offer constant discovery,” explains Juan Diego Canahuati, who co-owns and operates the restaurant with his wife, Nicole. “We named the restaurant Arcano to imply that surprises are in store, keep our clients intrigued, and to make sure the experience is accessible and unintimidating for our guests. Arcano is the type of place that embraces nostalgia while looking ahead.”
In Arcano’s menu, you can take a culinary journey through different countries, and repeat customers can also enjoy new
dishes when they dine again. According to Nicole, “The menu was designed to encourage sharing and exploration, with each dish inspired by a different country or region. Guests can order as they want or have a meal curated by us.”
Before dining, we had a couple of Arcano’s craft cocktails creations. The Baila Conmigo, a refreshing drink served in a very whimsical ceramic avocado, has Canaima Amazonia gin and cilantro liqueur laced with a pepino-poblano-spinach shrub, and elderflower; and the Corn Fashion is crafted with Woodford Reserve bourbon and elote liqueur mixed with a house-made jarabe of roasted corn, vanilla, saffron, and cocoa.
For our dinner starters, we enjoyed a very fresh Ceviche with a bold mix of corvina, avocado, chili, with a strawberry leche de tigre, and crispy chips; and the Crudo de Lomito with beef tenderloin carpaccio, coffee emulsion, watercress, Honduran cheese, and ancestral seeds. Another very appetizing option was the Calamares on Fire with roasted squid, chorizo, grilled pineapple, jalapeño, flor de jamaica, and cilantro. Our main courses were a selection from Arcano’s Rices section of the menu, the Arroz Marinero seafood rice, with shrimp, fish, calamari, octopus, and zarza criolla; and the Corvina Margariteña with battered corvina fillet, coconut stew, annatto
oil, and cilantro-lime rice. I love mushrooms, so for a side I relished on the Setas Locales with Gratitude Garden Farm king trumpet and oyster mushrooms with honey-tamarind glaze.
For dessert, I had to try Arcano’s version of the flan––one of my favorite desserts from my childhood in Costa Rica. Their Flan De Maíz with creamy corn flan topped with golden caramel is a silky, golden twist on the classic, and it was excellent. We also tried the Zesty Tres Leches with orange sponge cake soaked in sweet milk and finished with lemon zest.
Arcano’s menu also has a Street Food section that offers one of Miami’s most curious burgers. The Hamburguesa Arcano is an 8 oz. wagyu beef brisket patty served on a house-made roll infused with blackberries, then topped with hibiscus-kissed caramelized onions, shredded Oaxaca cheese, queso fresco, fresh watercress, and a house-made garlic aioli. You can try it for lunch or dinner!

Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age – even young people. Despite being one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States, strokes are largely preventable, treatable, and beatable – if you can control your risk factors. According to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke. Keeping blood pressure in check, living a healthy lifestyle, and knowing stroke warning signs may help protect you and your loved ones.
Here are key insights from the American Stroke Association’s Together to End Stroke initiative, nationally supported by the HCA Healthcare Foundation.
Up to 80% of strokes may be preventable, according to the American Stroke Association. You can take action to prevent strokes by managing your risk factors, like high blood pressure, a leading cause and controllable risk factor for stroke and heart disease. Other risk factors include diabetes and obesity, which can be kept in check with healthy lifestyle behaviors such as good nutrition. Quitting smoking and being physically active are important. Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, which is a quivering or irregular heartbeat, also increases stroke risk. In fact, people with AFib are five times more likely to have a stroke, according to the American Heart Association.
“Preventing a second stroke is possible with the right approach,” said Teresita Casanova, MD, HCA Healthcare affiliated neurologist and American Stroke Association volunteer expert. “Taking medicines as prescribed, monitoring health numbers, and making small, consistent lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Stroke survivors should feel empowered to take control of their health and work with their care team to build a strong prevention plan.”
To help you in your journey, you can rely on tools such as the Heart & Stroke Helper, a free self-management app available for stroke survivors and their caregivers. The app allows patients to oversee their health in one place with features that track progress on lifestyle habits, manage medications, track health numbers, provide information about stroke and allow patients to connect with others for inspiration. Find more ways to manage second stroke risk at Stroke.org.
Most adults in the U.S. don’t know the stroke warning signs, nor that stroke is largely treatable if you call 911 as soon as you recognize the symptoms. Learning the acronym F.A.S.T. can help you recognize that someone may be having stroke symptoms so you can take life-saving action.
Nearly 1 in 4 strokes occur in people who had a previous stroke, sometimes because they don’t know what caused the first, making identifying the cause of the stroke a key step toward future prevention. Treatment depends on the type of stroke someone is having, which can be determined with a series of medical evaluations and tests. Work with your health care professional to develop a plan that helps you move forward after a first stroke while preventing a second. This plan should include controlling risk factors, like achieving and maintaining healthy blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
F: Face Drooping. Does one side of the face droop, or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person’s smile uneven?
A: Arm Weakness. Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S: Speech. Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like “The sky is blue.”
T: Time to Call 911. If you or anyone else shows any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
