Washrooms can be accessed through the doors on the left hand side at the back of the Church on the opposite side to the entrance. Your family is welcome at St. James’. There is a play area with toys and colouring books at the back of the Church. The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) is available. Speak with a priest to make an appointment. The Mass booklet contains all the prayers and information required to participate in the Mass. The directions given in this booklet to stand, sit, and kneel are offered as guidelines to those who are able. The symbol + indicates when to make the sign of the Cross. It is also customary to make a discreet bow at the name of Jesus. You are encouraged to take the opportunity before Mass for silence, stillness, and prayer. Please refrain from talking before Mass begins. The Thurible CLERGY NOTES St. James’ Church has many unique features. To try to describe them all would be a fascinating but time consuming exercise! But one of them deserves special mention. We make a real commitment to the constant offering of public prayer. Morning and Evening Prayer is said and the Mass is celebrated on almost every day of the year. The angelus is rung just before 9 am (8 am Sunday) and 5 pm to tell the community that it is being prayed for in the daily office. In reading and psalm, canticle and hymn God is praised and his blessings and guidance sought. And since the Liturgy of the church is the “work of the people” lay men and women share with the clergy in taking leadership in officiating at prayer.

The mass is celebrated Monday through Friday. The time varies from day to day to enable as many people to attend, depending on their personal schedule. Both the Lady Chapel and the Blessed Sacrament Chapel are used. We try to keep silence in these parts of the church so that the space is a

OUR PARISH STATIONS OF THE CROSS This Lent, as is our tradition, we will be walking with Jesus on the way of his passion and death. Each Friday, beginning on Feb. 28, the Stations of the Cross will be said following the 12:10 pm Mass. Please join us.

MUSIC SERIES CONCERT Sun. March 1, 7:30 pm The Laudate Singers will present a choral concert with music from the renaissance to the present day. The programme has something for everyone: experience the ethereal music of Gregorio Allegri's sublime Miserere Mei, the dreamily nostalgic Only in Sleep by Latvian musician Ēriks Ešenvalds, the profoundly beautiful Gallant Weaver by Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan, and brand new choral work by Vancouver composer Emile Deedes -Vincke. THE HUMAN CORONAVIRUS Our Archbishop has written a pastoral letter about the ways in which we can address our fears around this issue and also remain faithful in our Eucharistic life as a community. She suggest a number of practices with regard to the liturgy that will help to minimize the chances of spreading infection. These include the use of hand sanitizers, care with administering the chalice, not allowing the practice of intincting, and respecting the variety of ways of sharing the Peace. All of these, we are happy to say, have been standard procedures of St. James’ for some time. To err on the side of caution, we have decided, in addition, to discontinue the use of holy water stoups located at various entrances to the church. Archbishop Melissa urges us to keep the situation in our prayers and to avoid over-reaction, not giving way to prejudice and fear. PARKING Annual parking fees of $125 are now due.
