typology: Inclusive Marine Research Centre with Sustainable Restaurant.
location: Blyth, Northumberland, UK.
year: 2025.
01. coastal cockle cycle.
The project is a two floor building of sustainable food and energy hub in Blyth that integrate biogas production, restaurant, laboratory, and education based on Blyth's marine ecosystem with inclusivity for disabled people with empathy in mind designed to welcome diverse users. The ground floor of the main building includes a reception, two office spaces, a meeting room, waiting area, changing room, and a classroom designed for educational engagement. The first floor contains a laboratory with a co-working space, water pH testing room, and cockle testing room, as well as a cooking school to explore sustainable cuisine. A bridge connects the lab to the first floor of the factory, which houses machinery and production systems on its ground level. The second floor features a river-facing restaurant with two private dining rooms, where guests are welcomed by a bar and receptionist.
typology: Inclusive Civic Centre with Museum, Cafe, and Library.
location: North Shield, UK
year: 2024.
02. mountain path.
This project reconnects the town centre to Fish Quay by transforming a former civic site into a public space featuring a museum, library, and cafe. Designed to navigate a steep urban slope, the proposal prioritises inclusive circulation with gentle ramps, tactile paving, and clear sightlines to support users with limited mobility and visual impairments.
Sustainable timber was selected for its low carbon footprint and durability in coastal conditions. Rooted in community engagement, the project creates a welcoming civic space that fosters access, discovery, and belonging for all members of the community.
typology: Accessible green learning space.
location: Ouseburn, UK
year: 2023.
03. urban observatory.
Located in Ouseburn, this project transforms an urban site into a green research and recreational hub for both visitors and researchers. The design features timber structures and living vegetation that climbs and wraps around the buildings, creating a calming, immersive natural experience within the city.
A key feature is the viewing tower, equipped with a periscope designed to give disabled users a full view of the surrounding area, including the Ouseburn valley and beyond. Rooftop spaces double as accessible viewing decks, encouraging public interaction and movement across all levels.
An array of urban farming boxes on the eastern edge supports the project's focus on community wellbeing, environmental education, and inclusive design.
