How to Pack Pillows for Moving

When you're preparing for a move, you will be packing both heavy, light, bulky, and flat items. Hence you need to carefully consider how everything will be packed in order to maximise your container space, as well as save on packing materials.

Check and sort pillows If you're moving to a new city, especially if you don't have much storage space, you need to carefully check everything that you will be taking with you, including your pillows. Go through each room in your home and check if the condition of your pillows is worth the trouble of moving them to your new home.

If any of the pillows are too worn out, are torn in certain places, or have stuffing coming out, consider recycling them or leaving them behind, especially if you know you won't have time to mend them before or after the move. Moving to your new home is also a good opportunity to buy new and better pillows that can help improve the quality of your sleep.

Pack your pillows One of the most common and the easiest ways to pack pillows is to place them in large boxes or containers. Before wrapping and packing pillows, make sure they are completely dry as moisture can cause damage to your goods, especially if your items will be placed in storage for some time.

Place a few sheets of packing paper at the bottom of the box or container.

Put two pillows on top of each other and press down to let out the air and make the pillows as compact as possible. If there's enough space add another pillow or use smaller pillows to fill gaps.

Once the container is full, line the top with paper sheets or thick blankets as additional protection.

Close and seal the box using packing tape. Add labels indicating the room and the contents of the box or container.

Unpack the Pillows No matter what method and materials you're using to pack your pillows, it is highly recommended that you unpack them as soon as possible once your belongings are delivered to your new home. The longer you keep them wrapped the higher the chances of developing an unpleasant smell no matter how clean or well-wrapped the pillows are.
