How to Pack A Mirror And what to prepare for the move

When packing your belongings for the move, packing heavy and bulky items are not the only things that are stressful. Preparing and packing large mirrors is also complicated since these are fragile and could easily break if not handled with the utmost care. You will need: Sturdy mirror box Packing tape Cardboard Bubble wrap Packing paper Markers/fragile stickers

If you're opting for a DIY move instead of hiring professional furniture removalists, here's what you need to do when packing large mirrors for a move:

Prepare packing materials When packing large and fragile items such as mirrors or glasses, it is highly recommended that you prepare packing materials ahead of time and keep them within your reach once you start packing. This way, you won't have to stop midway to get additional packing materials and risk leaving the mirror or glass unattended, especially when it is a busy area within the house where people may accidentally cause the glass to break. If you don't have mirror boxes, take and cut big cardboards to form two pieces that are a few inches bigger than the mirror so you have enough space for paddings. Also, prepare two pieces slightly smaller or the same size as the mirror frame that you can use to cover the mirror.

Prepare the mirror for packing Whether you're packing small or large mirrors, it's best to have a designated place where you can safely wrap the mirrors without the risk of them falling over. We highly recommend that you do the task on an elevated surface. If that is not possible, prepare and pack them in a closed-off room, preferably on a flat surface. Using painter's tape or masking tape, place a large "X" across the face of the mirror from corner to corner before packing the mirror. You may also opt to create a grid across the surface for the mirror. Whilst this will not prevent the mirror from breaking, it will keep the broken pieces in place if the mirror is damaged during the move.

Pack the mirror Take the two smaller cardboards, cover the front and back of the mirror, and secure the top, middle, and bottom using packing tape. Wrap the mirror completely using packing paper. Secure the wrapping using packing tape, then pack the whole thing using bubble wrap, making sure that everything is completely covered. You may also use thick blankets as additional wrappers or paddings. Create a bed of padding at the bottom of the mirror boxes using crumpled packing paper. Once done, take the wrapped mirror and carefully slide it into the box. Fill the gaps or spaces with crumpled paper or smaller blankets or towels to ensure that the mirror won't shift during the move.

Seal the box Seal the edges of the mirror box with packing tape. Before completely sealing the middle, gently lift and shake the box to check for movement. If the mirror moves, add more padding until there are no gaps. Then, completely seal the box and label it properly using markers or fragile stickers.
