I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Search Committee and Board of Directors for granting me the opportunity to lead the team and be part of the Wexford family. The schedule over the last few weeks has given me the opportunity to meet many of the staff while working on relocating from colder climates in Vermont. As of December 5th, I will be at Wexford full-time and look forward to building lasting relationships with staff and membership.

Now onto a little bit more about me and my family. My wife Heather, daughter Scout-Kelly and our furry four-legged family include a 6-yearold Labrador retriever and 1 year old orange Tabby cat. We have enjoyed the last eight years in New England but the Low country is much closer to home given we spent many years on the southwest coast of Florida. Not to mention we expect the winter weather to be much more to our liking.
From a professional standpoint, I have been the General ManagerCOO at Dorset Field Club in Dorset Vermont since October of 2014. With the help of staff and guidance from the Board of Governors, we were able to differentiate the club from the competition and turned DFC into a year-round facility with winter racquets, dining, and cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Prior to Dorset I was the Club
Manager at Heritage Palms Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida. My professional background includes 25+ years in progressive club management, architecture and construction project management and marine construction. I look forward to applying those skills collaborating with staff and member feedback to further develop the current Amenities and Enhancement Plan with a focus on making Wexford the premier private club facility in the Low country.
In closing, I wanted to send out a special thank you to interim General Manager Craig Martin who has been instrumental with this great opportunity and who I will lean on in the coming weeks during my transition.
I look forward to meeting you all very soon
Wishing all our members a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
FROM THE WEXFORD HOA
As we approach the holidays and end of another year, we have much going on in our community as members and staff alike prepare to host, and enjoy festive times with, our families and friends.
Let me start by welcoming our new General Manager Patrick McGuire and his family to Wexford. We are pleased that Patrick was able to join us onsite in November to spend time with and introduce himself to the Wexford team during their quarterly employee meeting. He begins work on a full-time basis on December 5th and will speak to our members at our 2022 Annual Meeting on December 9th. Please introduce yourself and welcome him warmly and help him get to know our Wexford members. To assist Patrick in acclimating to Wexford, Craig Martin, interim GM, will be working with him and our senior managers throughout the month of December. Craig has been highly instrumental in bringing his own energy, enthusiasm, and steadiness to Wexford since mid-summer. Thank you, Craig, for your sincerity, professionalism, and contributions while at Wexford. You have greatly helped us move ahead in a positive way!
Sullivan Presidentand the ‘team first’ attitude they bring to work every day. The plan is to conduct employee and member surveys annually to learn where we can improve and focus resources on membership and staff interests. In keeping with longstanding tradition, Wexford members once again contributed solidly to the Employee Holiday Fund to provide staff with holiday bonuses at a time when most helpful. The Holiday Fund is provided to eligible staff employees, excluding department managers, and is distributed in midDecember. On behalf of the Board and our employees, thanks to all Wexford members for your generosity and contributions! Our staff appreciate your kindness.
I want to extend a special thanks to all committee volunteers for their time and input. We had a record number of applicants this year to serve on our 13 committees. I’m so thankful for their time and work. It was fun hosting both Welcome and Year-end thankyou “Happy Hour” events this year for all committee members to show Wexford’s appreciation for your involvement.
Lastly three of us have completed our Board term including Sue MacCormack, Bill Busch and myself. My deepest appreciation goes to Bill and Sue for their time and thoughtfulness in fulfilling their civic volunteer role. While faced with the challenges of Covid, the dynamics of management transitions, and the welcoming of a record number of new Wexford members to our community, your support in working for the greater good of Wexford was most valued.
Our senior managers’ leadership has been such a strength in our transition success this year, and I can’t thank them enough for their time, insight, and execution. Our employee engagement survey results were exceptional, exceeding benchmark data from our survey partner, Club Benchmarking. The support and teamwork identified in the report is a credit to all Wexford staff
Thanks to all Wexford members and staff for making Wexford the premiere place to live and work on Hilton Head. Have a safe, healthy, and fun holiday!
Please consider donating to the Wexford Employee Holiday Fund, a time-honored tradition, to show our appreciation of the staff’s dedication and commitment to elevating the Wexford experience, contribute to the beauty and sense of community we enjoy each day and make Wexford one of the premier communities in Hilton Head.

“So, this is Christmas and what have we done?” We’ve boated, we’ve sailed, we’ve gone on adventures and had some fun.
Now it’s time to think of a gift for your intrepid Captain, the responsible person at the helm, the one who got you out there, and more importantly, brought you safely back again.
Here’s a few suggestions — all the items below are easily found on Amazon or the ’net.
As the #1 selling multi-tool platform to the US military, the MP600 series has been to hell and back. Serving those who serve, this tool is built to be tough and accessible. A one-hand opening design is crucial, as is the durable stainless body, the variety of 14 tools, and multiple versions that are specialized for any situation. Just by the way this is my tool of choice, I have one on my belt for about 30 years, this is my 3rd, two were taken by Poseidon, one I have no idea what happened to it, just disappeared one day. Cost: $60
Designed to perform in the most challenging conditions, the Race Fusion Sunglasses feature 100% UV 400 protection, anti-scratch polarized lens technology and a hydrophobic outer coating that sheds water and reduces salt residue, leaving you with crystal clear perspective regardless of conditions. Benefiting from excellent ventilation to reduce condensation as well as nose and temple grips for an unshakeable fit, they are ideal for the most rigorous activities on and around the water. Perhaps most important of all, they are floatable, so if you drop them all is not lost! Funnily enough I am on my 3rd pair of these as well, first pair I left in a marina, second got eaten by a small brown dog and the current pair, well, they have been over the side twice now, both times I have picked them out of the water and right back on my face. Before these sunglasses I can say with certainty I have probably lost
about $2,000 of sunglasses over the side of boats in the last 30 years. Cost: $130
Every Captain or crew member should have a sharp, reliable knife. Spyderco is of superior quality. It is made from H1-Steel which has replaced carbon with nitrogen that retains its sharpness. It has an attainable Rockwell hardness in the high 60s while still retaining its resilience.
The New EDC is an ideal knife for underwater diving, fishing, off-shore, the food industry and all those other professions where rust is not desired. Spyderco knives are corrosion resistant. This knife is completely ambidextrous and utterly impervious to corrosion.
FRN Handle - The bright yellow linerless handle has Bi-Directional Texturing for a secure grip in and out of the water, and four sets of threaded inserts to anchor a versatile, four-position titanium pocket clip. Easy-to-Use: You open the knife with one hand by means of the round hole in the blade, after which, when opened, it is locked by the reliable back-lock. Cost: $102
To Stephen Duvall
I will be eternally grateful, he introduced me to Pilar Rum, easily the best and smoothest I have ever had, I now pass this wonderful rum onto you. Here is a tasting box featuring Papa’s Pilar flagship blends: Papa’s Pilar Blonde, Dark (my favourite) and Sherry-Finished Rum. The trifecta is born of the finest rums, each is hand-selected from around the Caribbean, Central, South & North America and then blended in Florida. A rum as bold, yet nuanced as Papa Hemingway himself, Papa’s Pilar Rum is born of a complex creative process inspired by his artistic expression. (Actually, you can really sum it up as being perfect for the all true Seafarers). Cost: $60
How about a custom painting of your very own boat?
This type of gift is very thoughtful and makes a perfect present for people who celebrate the purchase of their yacht. Note that the drawing is custom made but needs to be downloaded as a digital product and printed on high-quality paper. You will also need to purchase the frame separately. As an alternative, you could of course have an artist do a commissioned painting, or even just take a photo and then paint the picture yourself, many ways to do this one, all are thoughtful and appreciated. Cost: About $40
Think Mr. Clean magic eraser with a little more resilience, these will remove those pesky scuff marks that every boat gets, they’re specially designed to remove marks and grime without the use of harsh chemicals that would damage the boat’s interior, also safe for gelcoat and painted surfaces. Cost: $13
All boats need lines, in fact, Maggie, if you happen to read this, the Nauti Dog is in need!
Each line is professionally spliced with a 12” eye, 25’ Length Each x 1/2” Diameters. Includes self-fastening ties, for easy storage of your lines when not in use.
Made from high-quality double braided nylon, that offers superior combination of strength and shock absorption. Lines come heat sealed and whipped at throat and bitter ends to avoid fraying and to ensure durability.
While designed for superior strength, these premiumgrade Dock Lines are soft to touch and easy to handle. The end result is dependability, with long life. Cost: $39 per pair
Finally, something every boat owner secretly, or not so secretly wants: a bigger boat. Pictured is one from the land down under, built by Oceanfast in 2004.
Her top speed is 15.5 kn, her cruising speed is 14.0 kn, and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 5500.0 nm at 10.0 kn, with power coming from two Caterpillar diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 10 guests, with 13 crew members.
She was designed by Jon Bannemberg, (he gets his own line).
The naval architecture was developed by Oceanfast, and the interior of the yacht was designed by Jon Bannenberg and Craig Beale. She is built with a Teak deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium (spelled correctly) with GRP superstructure.
This is a particularly beautiful boat and yes, I’m a little biased, the best thing about this boat is that you can have it for just $19,000,000. I know!! What a bargain!
If you need a captain, I know a guy.
Happy Holidays to all!
The Yacht Club Committee will be meeting in early December to start laying out our calendar for 2023. Your suggestions for boating-relat ed activities are always welcomed!
We usually plan to have 3 or 4 multiday trips, several lunch trips, along with fishing tournaments, the new Junior Sailing Program, Docktails, model yacht racing, and safety and education seminars. There is always something going on in the harbour!
This past year, though we did have some scheduling challenges, we had successful multi-day trips to Georgetown and Beaufort, well attended fishing tournaments for Cobia, King Mackerel and Inshore Fishing, great boating safety and education seminars, and a 4th of July filled with nautical events!
Our three big social events of the season: the Blessing of the Fleet, Boat Commissioning and Festival
of Harbour Lights were well attend ed, and Wexford boaters donated their time, boats and a lot of expen sive fuel to support our local Boys and Girls Club day-outing.
We also welcomed our new Com modore Steve Duvall and new Vice Commodore Amy Presley and they will “take command” of the Wexford Yacht Club for an exciting 2023 season of safe nautical fun! See you in 2023!
Your fellow Yacht Club members had another great time during our annual Wexford Yacht Club trip to Beaufort.
The trip started on Wednesday, November 16th, with four boats taking a pleasant but cool ride to Beaufort. Once the boats were tied down, we went straight to Docktails before a great meal at The Q. On Thursday, the guys did a tour of the Rotten Little Bastard Distillery while the ladies hit the shops on Bay Street. The crews managed another Docktails before having a great meal at the Breakwater restaurant Thursday evening. The group returned to Wexford on Friday morning.
Though unusually cool for this time of year, there were smiles all around!
The cooler-than-average weather for this time of year played a role in the 2022 Wexford Inshore Fishing Tournament. Seven boats braved temperatures in the 40s with a steady breeze for nothing more than bragging rights. The tournament format was modified slightly this year to include Sheepshead species along with Redfish, Trout and Flounder. The winner was the boat that had the highest total weight of two fish of any of those species. Congratulations goes to defending champion Ethan Timperman for winning again this year with a total weight of 7.6 pounds of Redfish.
Winner — Capt. Ethan Timperman
Boat: Dilly Dilly
Crew: Hake Patrick
Combined Weight: 7.6lbs
Second Place — Capt. Bill Busch
Boat: Sarah Jeanne II Crew: Peter Carlson, Rick Anderson, Eric Nguyen
Combined Weight: 5.0lbs
Third Place — Capt. Gary Fisher
Boat: Passing Wind
Crew: Andy Wilson, Grant Fisher
Combined Weight: 3.6lbs
December 24th — Close at 2:00pm
December 25th — Closed all day
December 31st — Close at 4:00pm
January 1st — Closed all day
Watch for scheduling updates for our ever-popular Oyster Roast event that takes place every year in early February. FREE, FREE, FREE oysters! Yup. Lightly steamed and piping hot with however you want to spice ‘em! The usual Docktails rules apply — bring your own drink and an appe tizer to share, but the oysters are on the house! Don’t miss it!

Please keep in mind that you should notify Security as you plan holiday events at your home. Our Team will help you develop a parking plan, so your guests can safely and easily get to your home. As a reminder, the Hilton Head Fire Department does not allow parking on the roadways.
As you consider holiday home decor, please ensure all outside lighting is not embedded on dry straw/grass. Also, do not connect more than one extension cord together (we’ve all seen Christmas Vacation!), rather use a single cord that is long enough to reach the outlet without stretching.
While using a ladder when you put up lights, choose the correct ladder for the job. Double check for a certifica tion mark to ensure your portable ladder complies with applicable standards, and always have a second per son help by keeping a steady hand on the ladder while you’re on it.
Set timers for your holiday light decorations or try a remote device that allows you to turn the switch using your tablet or smartphone. You should always turn off holiday lights when you leave the house unattended or when going to bed.
And when you’re shopping this season, remember that you should keep shopping bags and packages out of sight in your car by placing them in your trunk. Also, be sure to have your keys in your hand before you get to your vehicle.
On a final note, we wish you a wonderful and safe holi day season!

A player who has the ability to change their strategy, their style of play, and their shot style in the middle of the match has the tools to beat every opponent. Most players are one dimensional and rely on the same shots hit from the same court position every time.
When you are in your lessons and clinic time, work on hitting different spins, speeds, and heights of shots. Work on relaxing and staying back becoming more consistent from the baseline. When you close the net, work on placing the ball into the open court by controlling your speed, depth, and angles!

Q: How was Pickleball “born?”
A: Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington state, and Bill Bell, a businessman, dreamed up the sport one day during the summer of 1965. The friends had returned to Pritchard’s home on Bainbridge Island, Washington, after a game of golf, and found their restless families in need of something to do. They picked up a couple of ping pong paddles and a plastic ball and started hitting it around on an old badminton court. Pritchard, Bell, and another friend, Barney McCallum, came up with the official rules shortly thereafter.

January 2023 ushers in some new changes to the Rules of Golf. Unlike the major changes of 2019, most of these changes will not be felt by the casual golfer. Here are five key changes:
These modifications are now part of the Rules and are in effect for all competitions and all plyers who fall under the categories covered in new rule 25.
When your ball is at rest after taking relief and then rolls into another area of the course due to natural causes, there is no penalty, and you must replace it.
If your club is damaged during a round (except in cases of abuse) you may repair it or continue to use it.
When using this relief option, you are required to drop your ball on the line, and it may roll up to one club length in any direction.
You are not required to put your handicap on your scorecard and there is no penalty if you return your scorecard in a competition with an incorrect handicap, as this is now the Committee’s responsibility. This change is consistent with other penalty reductions, such as reducing the penalty for playing an incorrectly substituted ball from the general penalty to one stroke.

As we move towards the Holiday season, we are especially mindful of all those in our community who are continually struggling to make ends meet. Often suffering from a lack of food, housing, healthcare and education they rely on the generosity of people like us to provide some good cheer especially for their them and their families at this important time of the year.
We are of course most grateful to those members who have already contributed to the Wexford Foundation and also for the very generous McEvoy Challenge of matching new donor contributions to a total of $50,000. However,
there are still many Wexford members who do not currently support our Foundation and it’s not too late to help us make a difference to more of those families in our community who would really benefit from our help.
Our all-volunteer board of Wexford Trustees and committee members and in particular our Grants Committee ensure that our expenses are minimal and that 97 cents in every dollar raised goes to those charities where our impact is most needed.
Once again, you are helping us to demonstrate just how much Wexford cares for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Please consider making a donation however large or small by sending a check to:
The Wexford Foundation PO Box 4100
Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
Or, if more convenient, request Wexford Accounting to add your donation to your account.
The Wexford Foundation is a 501(c)(3) and your tax-deductible donation will definitely make a difference.
Also, please visit our website wexfordfoundation.com where there are other payment options, as well as much more information on the way that our Foundation works and the charities which we support.
Thank You.
