ADMINISTRATION OFFICE:
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Spring season in our paradise.
A real highlight of the past couple of months has been the outstanding achievements of Scott Hunter, our Director of Golf. Scott qualified for the 2025 Senior PGA tournament at Congressional in Bethesda, Maryland held on May 22-25. Scott was competing against the best senior golfers in the world, not just the US. Scott was well supported by around 20 individuals who travelled up to Bethesda to see Scott play. On the first hole, the starter was amazed by the strong ovation for Scott from the assembled Wexford crowd. Scott’s other two playing partners had one or two individuals following them around, and the starter seemed to say “Who is this guy Scott Hunter?”
We are making good progress on most of our Strategic Goals for 2025. These are:
• Ensure that the Amenity project (Clubhouse and Harbour Center) is on time, on budget, and on track for April 1, 2026, completion.
• Establish a Food & Beverage Taskforce to work closely with management to provide member input to ensure that we can seamlessly transition our Food & Beverage operations to temporary facilities and then into the new Clubhouse in April 2026.
• Thoroughly understand the results of the 2024 Owner Survey and create an actionable plan for Board and Management to address the levels of satisfaction and issues raised in the Survey.
Scott played well on the first day, finishing in the middle of the pack. Unfortunately, a massive thunderstorm hit the course as Scott was playing on the 15th hole, but he successfully played through the driving rain and high winds. He made the cut, which was a fantastic achievement. The next day brought great weather and great golf. Scott was coming down to the last few holes looking like he was going to miss the cut by a couple of strokes. Then two things happened – the cut moved up one stroke, and Scott had a fantastic birdie on the 616-yard Par 5 finishing hole. That put him right on the cut line –an incredible achievement considering the very strong field. He played on Saturday and Sunday, which was a great honor.
• Develop an owner-centric Strategic Plan for Golf Course Renovations in 2027/2028.
• Develop a Strategic Plan for 2025-29. We have made progress on the first two of these initiatives and are still working on the third. We have made progress on the Golf Course renovation project, with Paul McEvoy holding 11 listening sessions to gain member input on this important amenity.
We have re-launched the WexConnect program that is focused on providing our new owners with opportunities to become quickly involved in the many activities that Wexford provides. We are actively looking for new ambassadors from our ownership to introduce our new owners to Wexford. This is an exciting opportunity to meet new owners and to help them ‘understand the ropes’ in their new community. Please reach out to Shelby Price if you have an interest in becoming a Wexford Ambassador for new and prospective members. You will receive a survey to complete that will be used to make the best matches possible. Wexford

But that is not all – on the following Wednesday, he qualified for the 2025 Senior US Open in Colorado in June. This is another incredible achievement! We are so proud of what Scott has accomplished, and we wish him well in the Senior U.S. Open. I hear that some Wexford folks are looking at going to see Scott play in the tournament. If you are interested, the tournament is June 26-29 at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.

We have our first new member Cocktail Party on Thursday, June 12th, from 4-5pm in the Pavilion. Invitations have been sent to anyone who has become a new member since the beginning of 2024. Currently, we have over 20 new members signed up to attend this event. Invitations to become ambassadors are contained in the weekly Wexford HOA emails.
The Amenity Project is moving along nicely. We had some delays due to weather, but framing on the Harbour Center has been proceeding on schedule and looks nearly complete. The Construction Task Force met in May and reported that the project still remains on track and roughly within budget. The projected opening date of the Clubhouse and the Harbour Center remains April 2026. April had a very significant increase in total cash balances to $12.4M, which was fueled by the increases in the assessments for the Amenity Project. One highlight of the financial picture remains the New Property Owner Initiation Fees (NPOIF). Year to date through April, NPOIF collections were $925K. The trend looks like it will continue into the second half of the year, with $560K pending (7 Homes, 3 Lots: 2- May; 3- June; 3- July). It looks highly likely that we will meet or exceed our annual projection of $1.4 million
April was on budget, with losses in Food and Beverage relative to the budget offset by favorable balances from other departments. Year to date, we are $111K favorable to budget, and we are projecting to be positive to budget for the entire year.
I believe that we have made progress on the Food and Beverage operation as we fully move into the temporary facilities. The new structure of the two tents coming together has presented us with some challenges, but we are hopefully overcoming these. Severe afternoon thunderstorms are providing some additional challenges, but we will continue to improve how these operate.
Michael Johnson and Chef Robert Wysong have put together an exciting set of events in May, and we have a full schedule of events set out for June and July. While dealing with temporary facilities is not ideal, we are doing the best job that we can. We appreciate the membership being flexible with regard to the constraints imposed by being in temporary facilities. One of the stars of the show has been Waves, which has featured several new menu additions (I suggest you try the Marinated Tuna Poke Bowl – it is delicious). The attendance at Waves has been very good, and I hear many reports of people having a great time at the bar. In both the Waves and the Pavilion on the Harbour, a key focus has been on providing an environment for socialization, and it appears that we are achieving that.
The golf course is doing very well. The warm weather and rains have allowed the zoysia to ‘pop’ and present an incredibly nice playing surface. The Golf Operations group has done a great job adapting to the new temporary facilities. We had to work out a couple of kinks in the system, but after that, it has been smooth sailing. I want to thank the membership for their flexibility in this process and also for their continued support of this critical part of our golf environment. We also recently hosted a wonderful Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes tournament with over 90 participants.
We have installed some new lighting on parts of Wexford Club Drive to address owners’ concerns that some areas of the community need enhanced lighting. It is a good start to solving this problem.
The Harbour Center continues to work well with their transition to the temporary trailer and is up and running. The tennis, pickleball, and croquet facilities are doing well, with continued strong participation throughout the spring. It is an honor and privilege to serve as the President of the Board, and we are excited about the rest of the year.
Respectfully, Mike

Actively participating in sports can be a challenge for people with disabilities. Numerous barriers exist, including limited availability of programs for training and competition. In 2016, Kathy Cramer, a dedicated special education teacher, identified the need for recreational opportunities supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities in our area and established SOAR Special Recreation. Since that time, SOAR has grown from 53 athletes into a vibrant community serving over 450 athletes across Beaufort and Jasper counties.

the popular softball toss. For this special occasion SOAR encouraged the community to come together and “Pack the Stands” by attending and cheering loudly for all of the Special Olympic athletes as they competed and showcased their abilities. In addition to the large crowd, the athletes were supported by hundreds of volunteers who were on hand to ensure the day was nothing short of successful. Events like these highlight the role of sports in building confidence, teamwork and personal growth for all who participate, and reinforce the belief that athletics are for everyone, regardless of ability.
SOAR athletes also competed in the South Carolina Summer Special Olympic games at Fort Jackson in Columbia SC in early May.
2025 marked the 55th year of this multi-sport event which now features competition in Bocce, Bowling, Gymnastics, Swimming, Track & Field, Powerlifting, and Softball.
A torch run across the state preceded the events, and the games officially opened when the Flame of Hope

Have you ever wanted to make a real difference in our community?
Serving on the Wexford Board is your opportunity to help shape the future of the place we all call home. From protecting and increasing property values to ensuring Wexford remains the best place to live, work, and play — your voice and perspective matter. With exciting new amenities nearing completion, future board members will help guide their success and enjoy the appreciation that comes with that leadership. Some shy away from the idea, thinking it’s
too time-consuming or politically challenging — but the reality is different. There are just eight scheduled board meetings per year, and the average time commitment is around 40 hours annually. As for concerns about friendships, our board operates with professionalism and care, and decisions are made in the best interest of the entire community. In fact, serving often deepens relationships and expands your circle, giving you a chance to connect with neighbors you might not otherwise get to know. If you’re
passionate about our community and ready to make a lasting contribution, we encourage you to step forward. Your leadership can truly change lives.

This spring, the Wexford ETC group embarked on its highly anticipated annual national trip, journeying from our coastal haven to the sun-kissed shores of Santa Barbara, California. Nestled on the Pacific and steeped in Mediterranean charm, Santa Barbara welcomed our group with its timeless elegance, sweeping vineyard views, and the luxurious embrace of the 5-star Ritz-Carlton Bacara Resort. From wine tastings in the rolling hills of the Santa Ynez Valley to exploring the charming streets of Solvang and the vibrant Funk Zone, every moment was designed to stir the senses. Yet, it was the final full day’s excursion that truly captured the spirit of the trip. After a serene morning wandering Montecito’s dreamlike Lotusland gardens, the group was deeply moved during a private tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Alongside the striking exhibits and presidential history, everyone was especially captivated by a rare and special traveling exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Standing beneath the very Air Force One that carried seven U.S. presidents, we also shared a catered lunch beneath its iconic wings — an awe-inspiring setting that sparked thoughtful reflection and spirited conversation.
The camaraderie, culture, and coastal beauty made this adventure unforgettable — and it’s no wonder the trip sold out quickly. If you’re not a member of ETC yet, we encourage you to join us next year and experience firsthand the joy of discovering the extraordinary with the Wexford ETC family. You can contact Sue MacCormack, Membership Chair, suemaccormack79@gmail.com.

As a reminder, all players must post their scores after playing a qualifying round. A qualifying round is any round, not played alone, but played in accordance with the World Rules of Golf. We ask that everyone please remember the following as you post your scores:
• Please post your score each time you play on the day played.
• Remember, if you play alone, you cannot post a score.
• Always post a 9-hole score, as the GHIN System will do the differential calculation
• Always adjust your score prior to posting using the Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) system — Net Double Bogey Max, as shown above.
• Please practice “Peer Review” by checking your playing partners for posting accuracy.
• If you play less than 18 holes, as shown below in the image, then post your score hole-by-hole and the computer will calculate a score differential for your handicap.

Wexford has a Lightning detection system, Thorguard. It is a prediction-based system that can help detect the threat of lightning in the area. Please use your own judgment when deciding when to continue an activity. Download the app on the app store and login to the Thoralert app #221. There are multiple pages of information.
Whether you play golf, tennis, croquet, boat or simply walk around the community, arm yourself with the detection system.

The bump and run is a low, controlled shot typically used when the flag is tucked away on the far side of a green, or when you’re faced with a large area of rough or fringe before the putting surface. The goal is to “bump” the ball into the ground using a short iron, wedge, even a hybrid, allowing it to roll toward the hole.
The bump and run is best used in conditions where a high, soft shot might be risky or unnecessary. If the green has a lot of undulation or the pin is tucked behind a bunker, the bump and run offers a more stable and predictable approach. It’s also ideal when the golfer has some room to work with but needs to navigate a tricky lie near the edge of the green.
For members looking to shave strokes off their game, the bump and run is an essential skill. It’s a shot that works well in various conditions and can often be executed with a high degree of control. By incorporating it into your game, you’ll find yourself making more up-and-downs and saving strokes when the conditions get tricky around the green. Next time you’re faced with a tricky chip shot, consider using the bump and run. It’s a simple yet effective technique that every golfer should have in their arsenal!
1. Club Selection: A 7- or 8-iron works well, as well as hybrids; experiment with different clubs!
2. Setup: Position the ball slightly back in your stance, closer to your trailing foot. This will help ensure you make contact with the ball first, rather than the ground.
3. Swing: Use a short, controlled swing. The goal is to make solid contact with the ball, ensuring that it gets a slight bump before it starts its roll. Keep the follow-through compact and maintain a stable body position throughout the shot.
4. Focus on the Roll: Remember, this shot is more about getting the ball on the ground and letting it roll to the hole. Avoid the temptation to try and hit a lofty, spinning shot. Precision and consistency are more important than distance.

Want to instantly improve your doubles game? Start by focusing on court positioning. After you or your partner hits a shot, don’t stay rooted in place — adjust! Try to move together like a team, especially at the net. The classic 1 up 1 back or “both-up” strategy works best when you’re in sync. Also, remember: whoever doesn’t hit the ball should still be active — poach, fake, or shift slightly to apply pressure. Communication and small adjustments in position make a huge difference in closing off angles and finishing points.

Q: Who was the first player in history to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same calendar year?
A: Don Budge, in 1938! He was also the first to complete the “Career Grand Slam.”
In April, Wexford hosted ROC Dental’s Charity Round Robin supporting Memory Matters.
1. COMMUNICATION IS KEY
• Establish a communication system: Use hand signals, verbal cues, or a combination of both to coordinate your movements and strategies.
• Call out shots: “Mine,” “Yours,” “I go,” “You go” can help prevent collisions and ensure clear responsibility for each shot.
• Be aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses: Share information about your partner’s comfort zones and adjust your play accordingly.
2. STRATEGIC COURT POSITIONING
• Stacking: Both players move forward to the non-volley zone line to cover a wider area and create more opportunities.
• Cover the middle: One player should always be positioned to cover the center of the court, preventing
opponents from easily hitting shots down the middle.
• Move together: Coordinate your movements to maintain good court coverage and create offensive opportunities.
• Come forward to the kitchen line: Rushing the non-volley zone when the opportunity presents itself can create pressure on your opponents.
3. MASTER KEY SHOTS
• Drop shots: A soft, low shot that is difficult for opponents to return, especially from the back of the court.
• Dinking: A dink is a soft, controlled shot that lands in the opponent’s kitchen area, making it difficult for them to attack.
• Deep serves: Serving the ball deep into the court makes it harder for opponents to return the ball and can put them on the defensive.
• Poaching: Stepping in to cover a shot that your partner is likely to miss.
• Hit between your opponents: A hard shot aimed between two opponents can create hesitation and openings.
• Be patient: Avoid rushing your shots or trying for putaways too early in the point.
• Accuracy over power: Focus on placing the ball in the right spot rather than hitting the ball hard every time.
• Anticipate: Read your opponents’ movements and try to predict where they will return the ball.
• Don’t be afraid to experiment: Try different shots and strategies to find what works best for your team.
• Have fun: Pickleball should be enjoyable. Embrace the game and the camaraderie with your partner.

Whether you’re navigating the full route or enjoying the float from the cove, it’s a perfect way to kick off summer on the water. Let’s cruise! More water. More friends. More fun. See you out there!
While we’ve loved seeing our young sailors thrive on the water, the Wexford Junior Sailing Program will take a break in 2025 due to scheduled construction around the Harbour. But not to worry—we’ll be back in 2026, with the program returning to our own Harbour, ready to welcome a new wave of junior sailors!
Still want to sail this summer?
We’re pleased to share that the South Carolina Yacht Club offers an outstanding junior sailing program and welcomes Wexford families. The club accommodates up to 200 kids and provides exceptional instruction in a fun and safe environment.
To learn more or enroll your child, contact: Mark Newman at the South Carolina Yacht Club, mnewman@scyachtclub.com
Thank you for your continued support as we work to improve our Harbour facilities. We can’t wait to set sail with you again soon!
As Wexford prepares for exciting improvements to our Harbour facilities, the Yacht Club Educational Series will take a break in 2025 due to the temporary lack of a dedicated space.
We’re already looking ahead to 2026, when the Harbour Center will be complete and the Educational Series will return—better than ever— with fresh content, expert speakers, and handson learning opportunities tailored to our boating community.
In the meantime, for those looking to continue their boating education, we encourage you to explore the Americas Boating Club at americasboatingclub.org. They offer a wide range of courses, seminars, and online resources to help boaters of all levels sharpen their skills and stay safe on the water.
Stay tuned!
As we begin planning for the 2026 series, a brief survey will be sent to boaters to gather your input on topics and formats that interest you most. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to lifelong learning on the water. We look forward to bringing the Wexford Educational Series back in full sail soon!
Once again, Wexford members John Cunningham and Jim Hicks were official starters for this year’s RBC Heritage Tournament at Harbour Town. John & Jim have performed this role for a number of years and have become well known to the spectators and to the golfers who they announce on the first tee during all four days of the tournament.
Member Rick Anderson caught these amazing nature shots out on the course!
