MATCH REPORTS

WANDERERS CC YOUTH TEAM TO HAWKE’S BAY, LABOUR WEEKEND Day one report: Game one saw the young Wanderers Youth Side go down chasing 156, they managed 128 but the boys had a blast, and well coached by Life Member Matt Roche. The team held their catches and fielded well against a strong Greerton team, with James Parker the pick of the bowlers with 5-18, and very unlucky not to collect a hatrick. In the chase, Eddie Marshall top scored with 35, with support from Guy Ormsby and Josh White, both scoring 24, in an opening stand of 52. The day begin with the boys receiving their WWCC baggie caps from Life Member Duncan Priest. Day two report: Another tight game, but not on the right side of the result against Havelock North CC. The WWCC youth side fought right till the end but just did not score enough, after winning the toss and batting first. Mika Ioasa lead the innings, with contributions from Hunter Lithgow and James Parker. Hamish Cranstone moved the field strategically and changed his bowlers to keep the pressure on, but they could not quite get the last couple of wickets. Guy Ormsby had the days best figures, and the fielding effort was vastly improved, some great catching and run outs, with Harry Johnstone and Tom Falloon deserving special mentions.

MATCH REPORTS

A Great final game was played against Paraparaumu College colts, who were an awesome group of cricketers and played the game in great spirits. The WWCC Youth Side scored 184 for 6 with Harry Johnstone scoring 63* and Eddie Marshall 38* with useful contributions from Tom Falloon and Mika Ioasa. Paraparaumu chased well, but fell short in the end as all the bowlers were exceptional bowling tight lines, but Josh Whites leg-spin was something else, 5-17 and included a hattrick. Well done to all the boys, new friendships made, and some special memories. Thank you to captain Hamish Cranstone for his leadership, and Matt Roche for giving up his time to coach the boys. They're tired tonight, but already looking forward to January when we do it all again.

MATCH REPORTS

WANDERERS CC CHRISTCHURCH TOUR Wanderers’ Kindred side travelled to Christchurch, in early November, to play against the Willows CC and Valley of Peace CC. Against the Willows on Friday 10 November, Wanderers wanted to bowl and the Willows wanted to bat on a calm and mild North Canterbury day. After a superb lunch, Brent Fleming reached 3 figures caressing the ball into gaps. Wanderers fought hard to restrict the 40 over score to 227/3 with Jeremy Morley snaring 2 wickets. Great game with starts from Tom and Monty. Superb rear action from Dan and Simon on debut and a 50 from Hewie. Fell short but cricket was the winner on the day! On Sunday 12 November, the Wanderers CC faced off against Valley of the Peace. WWCC chased down 178 in the 38th over. Bomber Lancaster unbeaten 50, Kirdan 49 and Monty - many of few carried us over the line. Great day, excellent spirits. The start of another great Wanderers tradition!

MATCH REPORTS WHANGANUI COLLEGIATE Whanganui Collegiate hosted the Wellington Wanderers for the first time on Sunday 12 November in both Men’s and Women’s fixtures. The Wanderers Men’s XI, captained by Hamish Marshall and featuring generations of Collegiate old boys, current Collegiate developmental players, and invitational players from across the Wellington region, batted first on the No 1 field. After a tight start from the Collegiate openers Charlie Mabin and Luke Bullock, the Wanderers got to 181 from their 40 overs after some clean ball striking by old boy and current Chairman of the Board, Jason Bowie, who finished with 85. Collegiate began the chase in style through opening bat Tim O’Leary with a free flowing 57. Wickets began to fall before Angus Pearce stepped up with an important 36 not out to see the Collegiate 1st XI home 9 down in the 38th over. Over the road the Collegiate Girls 1st XI took on an invitational Wanderers School side which had representation from eight schools. The team was fantastically led by year 13 student Jo Wawatai of Tawa College. Some notable performances from the Wanderers Girls were Millie Newells 17no, Casey McCullys 3-3 in Game one, and Lani Williams quick fire 13, and Millie Newells 3-4 in game two. The Wanderers took victories in both T20s, but the cricket was fantastic, and the girls from both teams just enjoyed the opportunity to play at such a magnificent venue, and on freshly prepared grass wicket which is always a treat for those who play in the Capital City. Just look at the photos to see how much fun these girls had which makes this all worthwhile. Thank you, Bec’s Newell, for your outstanding organisation. The Wanderers thank Collegiate for the fixture, all games played in a fantastic spirit as you’d expect, and the BBQ lunch bringing all four teams together, including their supporters was amazing. We look forward to touring to Whanganui again next year.

MATCH REPORTS ONSLOW COLLEGE Wanderers CC faced off against Onslow College on Sunday 26 November. The Wanderers, led by the skipper for the day, Will Martin, emerged victorious, capping off an enthralling innings that finished with a flourish. Opting to bat first, Wanderers started steadily, but Onslow's bowling attack proved challenging, keeping the run rate in check. Despite the initial pressure, Will Martin anchored the innings masterfully, showcasing a combination of technique and power. Martin's resilience at the crease was commendable, and he finished unbeaten with a stellar score of 64 runs, providing the backbone for Wanderers CC. Connor Lusty played a crucial supporting role, contributing a valuable 42 runs to the team's total. The duo's partnership added stability to the innings and set the stage for a competitive total. Xavier Crookston from Onslow College displayed excellent bowling prowess, finishing with figures of 2 for 31, putting a dent in the Wanderers' batting lineup. When Onslow College took to the crease, Xavier Crookston once again proved his worth, top-scoring with 41 runs. Duncan Stalberg provided valuable support with a solid contribution of 25 runs. However, the Wanderers' bowlers, led by Martin Pike and Connor Lusty, made significant breakthroughs, taking 2 wickets each. The match unfolded on a picturesque day, with enthusiastic support from parents and friends of Onslow College, creating a vibrant atmosphere at the venue. Despite Onslow's determined efforts, the Wanderers emerged victorious, limiting them to a total of 161-8. In the end, Wanderers CC posted a challenging total of 216 all out, showcasing a balanced performance with both bat and ball. The match will undoubtedly be remembered as a testament to the spirit of cricket, with outstanding individual performances and collective efforts on both sides.

DONATIONS

The Club needs your help. We're looking for donations to help digitise all our Club records, minute books, and photos from 1946 till today.

We need to raise $2,500 to complete this project and are looking for donations from generous Club members who would like to contribute to protecting our history. The Club has over 75 years of memories stored in a large plastic box. This history is at risk of being lost forever if we don't protect it and create a way of keeping it accessible for future generations. We have scorebooks, club material related to the 25th and 50th Anniversaries, minute books and administration files dating back to the founding of the Club, plus photos from the 1950s onwards that capture so much of our colourful history. We have sourced a quote from New Zealand Micrographic Services to digitise all these materials so we can store them online and protect the history of our club. Help us preserve our club's history so we don't lose it!
