Let’s be honest. Those salon markups are getting out of hand. Zissy sees it. You see it. Your wallet definitely sees it. That’s why she said, “Enough!” No more middlemen hiking up the fees. No more tariff-style price padding. Just factory-direct pricing, and up to $2,000 in savings per wig—without giving up an inch of quality or style. Because Zissy believes beautiful wigs should make you feel good, not broke. And she wouldn’t want you spending more than you have to.

ESTHER RAPAPORT

NINE A.M. IS A COMPLETELY FICTIONAL STORY WHICH TAKES PLACE FIFTY YEARS AFTER THE HOLOCAUST.

66: Binyamin and David Elkovitz are deliberately given separate hours to make up their missed work from Chol Hamoed, because Leo Sherer doesn’t approve of their friendship. Still, they might be able to overlap their shifts by a few minutes—when they hope to call Hanter to obtain more information. Binyamin gets the telephone from Naomi.

CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN

Binyamin,

This animal was wounded, and they weren’t able to take off the skin properly in the back and rib area. We dealt with it this way, but the soaking only made the tear worse, as you’ll see for yourself. Please check if it’s not better to divide it into two furs, a small one and a big one, instead of the strange shape it is in now. Pinchas

Binyamin carefully removed the note attached with a pin to the shiny black fur resting on the low table to his left. It was a good thing that he had time until he had to decide what to do. It wasn’t really nice of Pinchas to throw this onto him. If Sherer would blow a fuse that they’d cut a good fur, slashing its value at once, why should he, Binyamin, be to blame that they hadn’t handled the animal better?

He wanted to speak to Pinchas, to gently probe about the details of what had happened, but Pinchas wasn’t there now. He had no reason to make up lost hours. He’d worked normally the week before.

“Chol Hamoed work.” Binyamin sighed to the wall in front of him. “That’s what your work is worth. Wouldn’t it have been much better had you taken off then, like all of us?”

“It will be okay,” someone said, putting a hand on the sewing machine. “I started working on it, but I didn’t finish yet.”

“I’m sewing by hand now, in any case: the Wangel insignia,” Binyamin replied to David. Out of the corner of his eye, he looked beyond his quiet work corner; no one seemed to be approaching. “You can continue working now on the repair; it won’t bother me.”

David Elkovitz sat down on the floor, a wide, black band in his hand. “Talk,” he whispered.

And Binyamin spoke quietly, bent over the white fur that had been waiting for him since yesterday, nearly finished. He affixed the gold-colored metal ellipse to its place as he repeated Naomi’s words to the best of his recollection. When he finished, the band of leather in the machine was properly stretched out in its place, and the old brown, worn down strip was on the floor next to Elkovitz.

“You know, it could have sounded delusional,” Elkovitz said.

RECAP OF CHAPTER

Shabbos

Candle Lighting Starts Here

“It—could—have—sounded…?”

Binyamin repeated carefully, forming a loop through which to knot the final stitch.

“I’ve been living for years with the feeling that something isn’t right here. Turn the machine on now, with nothing in it.”

“Of course it’s not right. Does it make sense that the children of the King of the world serve as slaves to a few megalomaniac Nazis?” Binyamin retorted bitterly. He moved over to the sewing machine. His foot pressed the pedal with force, and the machine began to rattle normally, without the grating shriek of earlier.

“Keep going, keep it running. My answer is that of course it doesn’t make sense, but I have this feeling that there’s a major secret here, a secret they are hiding from us.”

“And do you think your father-in-law knows about it?”

“My father-in-law? Are you nuts? It’s a secret that the Wangels and all their friends who are part of it would kill for!”

“I’m just wondering, what’s this newspaper that they sometimes give us? Because according to it, they are not lying at all, and the situation in the world is very grim for us. Do you think that he—”

“The Der Cosmos? One big fake, in my opinion. And you can stop the machine—it’s working fine.”

They both fell silent. Elkovitz bent over to collect his tools from the floor.

“I want to call Hanter myself,” Binyamin whispered decisively.

“Who will answer you at three in the morning?”

“I’ll call early in the morning, after davening, a few minutes before everyone gets here.”

Elkovitz scratched his head and then said, “If I’m able to, I’ll also come here. But very early, okay? Before the Wangels wake up and start using the phone in the house.”

“Of course.”

“Meanwhile, I’m forgetting my pliers under the table, so I’ll have a reason to show up here so early.”

And he was gone.

Binyamin sat bent over his light-colored

Chayala Lichtenstein

fur, not raising his head until he was finished. At the other end of the production hall, far away from him, figures were moving around, each one doing his own work. But the young man felt that he was much further away from them than just the physical distance that separated them. He wasn’t here at all, and he had no idea where he was. It was a good thing his hands were doing the work almost automatically. A fake.

There aren’t really Nazis. Jews live in peace and tranquility. Was it true that only one big fake had kept them trapped here all these years?!

By the time he had to leave for shul, he’d finished the job. The fur was resting on the designated shelf, and Binyamin went up to the ground level, washed his hands, and headed out to shul. His eyes were burning, and his arms felt heavy. As he walked, he stretched his arms over his head, then downward and to the sides.

“Nice to see such a young, energetic youth!” Leo Sherer called out to him, appearing from between the trees. “It’s great to start your day with refreshing morning exercises. Did you get a lot done, Shvirtz?”

“Yes, baruch Hashem.” The most important thing he’d done, of course, was have that conversation with David. And he hoped, with Hashem’s help, that they could get even more done this morning.

The question was how safe it was to call when the Wangels were liable to be partners to the conversation. Who could guarantee that they were still sleeping?

“Do you think the Hauptmann will come to the factory today?” he asked politely. “The fur I finished overnight came out beautiful, and I’d love for him to see it with his own eyes.”

“You’re not usually the boastful type.” Leo’s face clouded. “And don’t forget for a moment who taught you this skill, Shvirtz.”

“Of course I remember.” Binyamin smiled pleasantly, not mentioning that from the first minute, the

stitches that he made were many times nicer than those of Leo Sherer. Although Max, of blessed memory, and Leo belonged to a famous family of furriers from Budapest, Leo had apparently been very young when the Nazis invaded Hungary, and he hadn’t had much experience actually holding the needle. He was good at managing and controlling, and he knew the principles of handling furs. But sewing, finishes, and precision were not his strong points. Binyamin’s instructor had been the old man, Max, and his stitches, too, did not compare with the precision of those formed by his remarkable protégé.

Binyamin kept walking, realizing that he would not get an answer out of Leo about the Wangel family’s plans in the coming hours.

Wait—what about Aunt Chani?

“Aryeh!” He grabbed his brotherin-law’s shoulder immediately after davening. “Is your mother already at the manor house now?”

“She should be leaving her house any minute, I think.”

“And the Wangels aren’t awake yet, right?”

“Now? For sure not.”

“When do they get up?”

“I don’t really know. I think she puts a tray with something light to eat near the doors of their rooms, and they only get up after that. Later on, they come down to a big breakfast.”

Binyamin lowered his voice. “I want to call Hanter soon. How late do you think they sleep—and don’t use their phones?”

“I can’t promise, but I believe that right now they are still sleeping.”

“I know, it’s rare for them to be around when we go out to work…” Binyamin murmured to himself.

“Right? They don’t usually show their faces the first hour. Usually.”

“Right,” Aryeh replied, somewhat hesitantly.

“So I’m going to make a run for it and try to take advantage of these few minutes,” Binyamin whispered. “Daven for me.”

He walked briskly toward the factory, hoping that Leo had already

Women dear, our feelings, let`s share, do you think it's fair? to put on a headgear, that resembles your own hair... let's be sincere, and a modest headcovering wear...

will be very near!

finished inspecting the output from the night shift, and that he was also eating breakfast by now.

The factory was completely empty. Binyamin hastened to his corner, stuck his hand under the pile of furs waiting for him—and pulled out the phone. It was a terrible hiding place. But as a temporary spot to put something for the nighttime hours, it was fine.

He sat down near the machine, holding the black fur, but he didn’t cut it or do anything else. He’d start the outside seam, and under the cover of the buzz of the motor, he’d try to carry on a conversation.

But he couldn’t make the call. There was no line.

The device wasn’t working, even after he pressed all the buttons as Naomi had directed him. There was no long tone, or even a broken tone, or any other sound from the rectangle. Even when he tried to press the digits, which he knew by heart, the device did not react. As if it had never worked, and would never work.

A figure approached from the distance, and Binyamin hastily shoved the device under the large fur. Now? Who was coming now?

After a moment, he recognized David’s gait and relaxed.

“Did you call?” the man asked, without preamble.

“I can’t.” Binyamin sounded frustrated. “There’s no dial tone.”

“Do you know how to use it?”

“My sister explained it to me, when she told me about her call with Hanter.”

“Give it to me, I’ll try,” Elkovitz said, bending down under the sewing machine. He also tried, but got the same results.

“Maybe the Wangels realized that your wife had crafted another device, so they somehow made it impossible to use?” Binyamin

mumbled.

“I don’t think they could do such a thing without having the actual phone in their hands. And I also think—” he smiled, but his eyes were dark—“that if they would suspect such a thing, they wouldn’t suffice with simply destroying the device that she’d built.”

“So what’s wrong here?”

“I think there’s a simple reason for why the phone isn’t working.” He studied the metal rectangle. “The device is too far from its main part, which is in the manor house. That’s how it works with these phones. They need a base that is connected to a phone line in the wall of the Wangels’ house. And when the extension—this part—is too far, it doesn’t work. But I have to ask my wife.”

“Herr Wangel uses his cordless phone here.”

“His is more sophisticated,” David replied. “Remember, this thing is just a pathetic imitation.”

Binyamin took a deep breath. “I’m going to talk in the woods,” he whispered. “That’s closer to the manor house. I’ll go to the hilly area, where no one has any reason to be.”

“And what will you answer if someone asks you what you’re doing there?”

“That I needed some peace and quiet—you know, to be with nature and the birds,” the boy replied. He stuck the phone into his sock again, and without another word, he ran outside, himself.

He didn’t go toward the residences or the fields, and instead turned northward, to the trees. He went further uphill, breathless, making sure that he was not visible from the manor house at any time. Even once he reached the top of the hill, he saw that the high wall continued on: the barrier between them and the world.

He slumped down at the foot of the wall, and pulled out the phone.

BE FIT WITH BENEFIT

QMy baby is 6 weeks old and it is now time for me to start being mindful and eating well again. However, I remember that when I started introducing salads and vegetables after my other 2 babies, they started vomiting and being very gassy and uncomfortable. Is it true that the veggies I eat can impact them? Does that mean that I need to be off vegetables for the next while? Are there some vegetables that are better than others for a nursing mother?

AIt’s true that the foods you eat can impact your breastfed baby. However, before you remove vegetables from your diet entirely, it’s important to understand how your baby’s digestive system works, and which vegetables are easier for them to tolerate.

When you nurse your baby, the foods you consume can be passed into your milk. This means that certain foods can affect your baby’s tummy, causing symptoms like gassiness, fussiness, or even vomiting. However, it’s important to remember that every baby is different—what bothers one baby may not affect another.

The specific foods you eat, such as certain vegetables, can cause gas or discomfort in some babies. This is because your baby’s digestive system is still maturing, especially in the first few months. Their gut may have difficulty processing certain compounds found in some foods, like fiber or certain sugars (such as those found in cruciferous vegetables), which can lead to gas and bloating.

Some vegetables are more likely to cause gassiness or discomfort in breastfed babies than others. These include:

Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and kale are known to cause gas because they contain certain fibers and sugars that can be hard for your baby’s immature digestive system to handle.

Raw vegetables: Raw vegetables, especially those that are fibrous (like celery or lettuce), can be harder for both you and your baby to digest.

Legumes: While not technically a vegetable, beans, lentils, and peas contain sugars and fibers that can cause gas in both moms and babies.

Based on this, you can see that it’s not necessary to avoid vegetables entirely. Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet and provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber that benefit both you and your baby. However, the key is to start slowly and observe how your baby reacts to different vegetables.

If you do notice discomfort or gassiness after eating certain vegetables, try eliminating them from your diet for a while and then reintroduce them one at a

time. This will help you pinpoint the foods that may be causing issues for your baby.

If you're looking to introduce vegetables while minimizing the risk of discomfort for your baby, consider starting with those that are easier on the digestive system. These include:

Zucchini and squash: These vegetables are generally easier to digest and less likely to cause gassiness.

Carrots: Cooked carrots are soft and mild, making them a good choice for both you and your baby.

Sweet potatoes: High in fiber and rich in nutrients, sweet potatoes are gentle on the stomach and are less likely to cause gas.

Spinach and leafy greens (Cooked): Mild leafy greens like spinach, when cooked, are easier on the stomach and provide iron and folate, both important for nursing moms.

Cucumbers (Peeled): Cucumber is mild and hydrating, and when peeled, it can be easier.

Here are some more factors you can keep in mind: Eat in moderation: Instead of cutting out entire food groups, try to eat vegetables in moderation and observe how your baby reacts. Introduce one new vegetable at a time.

Cook your vegetables: Cooking vegetables can break down the fibers and sugars that might otherwise cause discomfort, making them easier for both you and your baby to digest. Putting some squash, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes in your Betty Crocker with some oil spray can be fast, delicious and pain-free for baby.

Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water while eating fiber-rich foods can help ease digestion and prevent constipation as water will help the fiber work optimally in your body.

Keep a food diary: If you're concerned about specific foods, a food diary can help track your intake and your baby’s reactions.

If you’re ever in doubt or concerned about your baby’s reaction, it’s always a good idea to consult with a pediatrician or a lactation consultant who can offer personalized advice tailored to your situation.

STUFFED MASHED POTATOES

Slightly more of a patchke, these stuffed mashed potatoes are a perfect treat for the family. Bursting with flavor, you can never stop at one piece. These are also great at room temperature and can be a good option for an appetizer when hosting.

Ingredients:

8 potatoes- boiled until soft (leave over some water for a creamier texture)

3 cubes frozen sautéed onion

4-5 tbsp mayonnaise

1 1/2- 2 lbs ground beef

3 tsp kosher salt

1 1/2 tsp pepper

2/3 cup ketchup

2/3 cup bbq sauce

4 eggs, whisked

4 tbsp oil

1 cup plain breadcrumbs

Directions:

Mash the potatoes, frozen onions and mayo until smooth. In a large saucepan, brown meat over high heat. Drain the liquid. Combine remaining ingredients and cook on low for an additional 10 minutes.

Take a spoonful of mashed potatoes, flatten on your palm and add a spoonful of meat mixture to the center. Start closing the potatoes over the meat to create a small ball. Repeat with remaining mixture.

In a small bowl, combine eggs and oil. Place breadcrumbs in a shallow pan. Dip each prepared ball in the egg mixture, followed by the breadcrumbs. Repeat with the same ball, creating a double coating.

In a large frying pan, heat oil for frying over medium heat. Place breaded mashed potato balls in the hot oil, frying on all sides.

One Hundred Years Later… Reb Shayale’s Chesed Still Feeds the World

5 MILLION MEALS. 5 MILLION MOMENTS OF RELIEF. ONE PROMISE THAT STILL BRINGS MIRACLES.

It’s been 100 years since the histalkus of Reb Shayale of Kerestir zt”l, one of the most beloved tzaddikim of recent generations. A century has passed since his warm, welcoming home in Kerestir stood as a beacon of hope for the poor, the hungry, and the brokenhearted.

And yet—his chesed is still alive. His presence is still felt. His legacy continues to feed thousands of hungry children every single day.

This is the story of how a tzaddik’s final wish has become the greatest force of chesed in our time, and how you can become a part of it.

THE TZADDIK WHO LIVED TO FEED HIS PEOPLE

Anyone who’s ever heard the name “Reb Shayale” knows his greatness wasn’t only in his kedusha or ruach hakodesh—it was in his limitless devotion to Klal Yisroel.

He didn’t just perform chesed. He lived it.

Day and night, his doors remained open. No Jew ever left hungry. His home was a haven, his table

was full, and his compassion never ran dry.

Reb Shayale fed the bodies of the hungry and lifted the spirits of the downtrodden. And in doing so, he became not just a man of miracles—but a father to the people.

"CARRY

MY CHESED—AND I WILL CARRY YOU."

In his final moments, Reb Shayale shared a heartfelt request with his descendants: “As long as you continue my chesed, I will continue to bring yeshuos for Klal Yisroel.”

His grandchildren took that promise to heart—and built something extraordinary.

They established Rav Lehoshia: an organization founded for one purpose only—to fulfill Reb Shayale’s will by feeding the children of Klal Yisroel. Not just any children, but the most vulnerable ones among us who cannot even complain about their hunger; they can't yet ask for food; all they can do is cry.

RAV LEHOSHIA’S DAILY IMPACT

Every month, Rav Lehoshia distributes 3 cans of baby formula per child to struggling families across Eretz Yisroel. That’s not just formula—it’s a full pantry for a baby. Breakfast, lunch, supper, Shabbos, Yom Tov, weekday, Pesach—it’s all there. Here’s what Klal Yisroel helped accomplish just this past year:

• 3,019 children were fed every single day.

• 108,684 cans of formula were distributed.

• Each can provides 46 feedings, on average.

• That means 14,123 times a day, a child was fed through your compassion.

• 4,999,464 times in one year, hunger was replaced with nourishment, warmth, and hope. And to date?

26,988,384 meals have already been served through Rav Lehoshia.

These unfortunate children rely on Rav Lehoshia for the costly baby formula that their parents cannot afford, as it is their essential food without which they would otherwise go hungry.

To this day, every container of formula, every meal, every bite of food is an extension of Reb Shayale’s holy hands, reaching out from Kerestir to the hungry of today.

NOW, FOR THE 100TH YAHRTZEIT—A GOAL WORTHY OF THE TZADDIK

In honor of the 100th yahrtzeit of Reb Shayale zt”l, his grandchildren and supporters have set out to achieve their most ambitious goal yet: to provide 5 million meals to feed thousands of children in the coming year.

Not just to remember Reb Shayale, but to live his legacy.

Imagine it: 5 million meals. 5 million sighs of relief. 5 million expressions of gratitude.

5 million moments of dignity for a Jewish child, and

That’s 26 million times a Jewish child in Eretz Yisroel was able to eat because someone like you chose to help.

5 million zechusim lifted before the kisei hakavod in your name.

A CENTURY LATER – MORE CHESED. MORE YESHUOS.

This year, as Reb Shayale’s chesed reaches more children than ever before, the promise he made echoes louder—and the yeshuos are pouring in in tidal waves. Because when a tzaddik’s love feeds thousands of hungry children, the gates of Heaven cannot stay closed. His final wish was clear: “Continue my chesed—and I will continue to carry Klal Yisroel.” And this year, we are seeing that promise come alive like never before.

To honor that promise, Rav Lehoshia is once again distributing the sacred kemiyah handed down from Reb Shayale zt”l—renowned for being a segulah for yeshuos and rachamim. It will be gifted to anyone who donates $100/month.

Additionally, this year’s campaign includes, for the second time, a raffle for an apartment in Kerestir, located on the main road leading up to Reb Shayale’s tzion. Every supporter who contributes at least $391 (the gematria of “yeshuah”) will be entered into the raffle. Monthly donors of $100 will be entered five times. Last year, the winner of the first-ever Kerestir apartment raffle was Harav Elazar Chanun shlit”a of Yerushalayim, the gabbai of the Shomrei Emunim Rebbe shlit”a.

NEW THIS YEAR: “THE SPOON OF YESHUOS”

This year, Rav Lehoshia introduces a oneof-a-kind opportunity: one of Reb Shayale’s grandchildren, who inherited the tzaddik’s actual silver spoon—the very one he used to serve food and perform his chesed—has been melted it down to create a limited number of spoons, which are now being gifted to select donors. Why this spoon? Because the miracles it brought are legendary. One Motzei Shabbos, a group of Jewish soldiers arrived late for Melave Malka. The kitchen staff told Reb Shayale there wasn’t enough borscht left. But the tzaddik raised his spoon and said, “What do you mean there’s not enough? We mix and serve, mix and serve!” And miraculously, he took his holy spoon and stirred the last drops in the pot and served borscht and potatoes until every last soldier was satisfied.

Now, a limited number of these holy spoons— forged from the original—are being given to donors who contribute $7,200 or more, to bring the power of Reb Shayale’s brachos into their own homes. Once they run out, no more will be made.

THE YESHUOS KEEP COMING

The name "Rav Lehoshia" isn’t just symbolic—it’s a lived reality.

Hundreds of donors have reached out with

TOGETHER, LET’S FEED 5 MILLION CHILDREN. TOGETHER, LET’S MAKE REB SHAYALE PROUD. TOGETHER, LET’S CHANGE THE WORLD—ONE MEAL, ONE CHILD, ONE MIRACLE AT A TIME.

incredible stories of yeshuos. Shidduchim. Parnassah. Health. Children. Turnarounds that defy logic—in the exact same way that Reb Shayale’s miracles once did.

Because when you feed a child through Rav Lehoshia, you’re not just giving food, you’re plugging directly into the brachos of a tzaddik who made a promise—and continues to keep it.

BE PART OF IT. BE BLESSED BY IT.

Join the thousands who are calling the Rav Lehoshia office at 718-6825056 to take part in this historic campaign—the zechus of providing 5 million meals to hungry children. When you call, you can also submit your personal requests, and representatives of Rav Lehoshia will bring your kvitel to the holy tzion of Reb Shayale zt”l on the day of the yahrtzeit.

It’s more than a donation. It’s a partnership in chesed, a connection to a tzaddik, and a moment to ask for yeshuos your heart desires.

Devorah and Barak, along with thousands of Jewish soldiers, fought a war against King Yavin and the Kenaani people, who had been oppressing them. Through a series of miracles, they emerged victorious. In gratitude to Hashem, they sang a song of praise. The Navi states, “Devorah and Barak ben Avinoam sang on that day…” alluding to the fact that they sang this song of thanks on the very same day they achieved victory.

4. FUN FACT

The Navi says Devorah was the wife of Lappidos. The word Lappidos means flames, hinting at Devorah’s fiery dedication to Hashem. Just as a torch sets everything around it on fire, Devorah’s passion similarly inspired those around her.

Devorah was one of the seven Nevios, the only Jewish female judge, and married to Lapidos. During her time, many Jews were immersed in Avoda Zara and suffered under the oppressive rule of the Kenaani people. Hashem sent Devorah, a wise and G-d-fearing woman, to guide the people back to their faith, which she successfully did. To avoid Yichud, she held court out in the open, beneath a palm tree. When the time was right, Devorah called upon Barak ben Avinoam to lead the Jewish people in battle against the Kenaanim. With the help of a brave woman named Yael, the Jews achieved a miraculous victory.

3. BRINGING IT DOWN

When Hashem helps us out, we should remember to thank Him right away without delay!

5. QUESTION TO CONSIDER

What goodness in your life can you thank Hashem for?

Melt the second bag of white baking chocolate in a cup of boiling water, just like in Step One. Cut a small triangle in the corner of the bag and squeeze the chocolate into the mold until it is full. Shake the mold gently to flatten the chocolate.

Make icing by mixing confectioners' sugar, 1tsp water, and 2 squirts of black icing until smooth. Pour into a bag and cut a tiny hole at the corner. Pop the chocolate out of the mold onto a plate and use the icing to draw a keyboard design on the chocolate.
