A warm welcome to the July Course for the final day of the July Festival, featuring the Group One My Pension Expert July Cup, one of the most valuable and prestigious sprint races in the world.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank My Pension Expert, Rossdales Veterinary Clinic, Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa and Trust A Trader for their sponsorship of today’s card We are also extremely grateful to our betting partner bet365 for their generous support across the three days
The Group One My Pension Expert July Cup was first established in 1876 and has since become one of the leading sprint races in the world. A fast and furious six furlongs, the race has an impressive roll of honour, including in recent years with multiple Group One scorers Starman, Alcohol Free and Shaquille all adding their names.
The My Pension Expert July Cup is also part of the QIPCO British Champions Series, which takes place over 35 races across the flat racing season from May to October
Head down to the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure for Darts with the Stars, where racegoers can compete with some of the leading darts players, including Keith Deller and Russ Bray. We also encourage racegoers to join us after racing to enjoy a DJ set full of feel-good tunes and dance anthems from Radio and Television presenter Melvin Odoom. Please look at the racecourse map further in this racecard for locations of all activity
Looking ahead, the Newmarket Nights series will continue at the July Course, with further concerts from Busted, James Arthur, Becky Hill and Deacon Blue later in the summer, with tickets for all these events selling fast, and available through our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket
We also continue our run of Summer Saturday’s next week, with a new theme for 2024, Boots & Bridles! Step into a world where cowboy boots and jockey silks collide, and the sounds of the racetrack harmonize with the rhythms of country tunes. Join us on Saturday 20th July to enjoy an actionpacked afternoon of racing, followed by after-racing music!
Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.
I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Newmarket and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck.
Warm wishes,
Sophie Able

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2024
As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2024 season. Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2024 season, the very best of luck.
Have a wonderful day at the races today.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS
RACE ONE
The penny seemed to drop late for BINTABUHA when finishing second on her racecourse debut over C&D. She arrives here for the in-form William Knight yard and is taken to add to her trainer's impressive recent record. Flight is feared most after a promising runner-up effort on her first outing at Newbury and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye. Godolphin newcomer Desert Flower, a three-parts sister to a Group 3 juvenile winner, isn't easily discounted, with Concert Party and Amica others to note.
Selection; BINTABUHA
RACE TWO
Danger: Flight
After a very impressive success over 6f at this venue last month, MISS BODACIOUS can continue her winning sequence today. Karl Burke's charge got off to a tardy start on that occasion but the daughter of Zoustar looked better the further she went and a 9lb rise doesn't appear to be out of her reach. Asian Daze has shaped as if she is capable of landing a prize of this nature and she is likely to give the selection most to think about, while Lou Lou's Gift completes the shortlist.
Selection; MISS BODACIOUS
RACE THREE
Danger: Asian Daze
ARABIC LEGEND showed a likeable attitude when second on his most recent start over 1m1f at the Curragh last month and a repeat of that effort would see him go close. Karl Burke's runner has been raised just 1lb for for that performance which appears reasonable. Qirat was well-supported before running with credit in the Britannia at the Royal meeting and he could gain compensation, while First Conquest is also worth of a closer look off an opening handicap mark of 91.
CARRYTHEONE beat plenty of these rivals when having a troubled passage to hit the frame in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot last month and the seven-year-old goes off the same mark Ryan Moore, who takes over in the saddle, landed this contest 12 months ago on Biggles and Michael Bell's gelding is more than capable of making amends. Mostabshir finished a place behind the selection that day and commands plenty of respect, while Awaal and Aalto are others to keep an eye on in a wide-open heat
Selection; CARRYTHEONE
RACE SIX
Danger: Mostabshir
Inisherin (first) got the better of JASOUR (third) when the pair met in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last month and, though the former was undoubtedly impressive on that occasion, it may pay to side with the latter It was a testament to his ability that he was able to finish third, despite plenty going wrong in the aforementioned contest, breaking awkwardly before racing too keenly throughout Granted a smootherpassagethistimearound,CliveCox'sC&Dwinnershouldmakeaboldbidtoreverseformhere.High-classoperatorVandeekisonthe comebacktrailafterabelow-pareffortintheSandyLaneatHaydock,whileRiverTibermeritsrespectbackdowntoarguablyhisoptimumtrip.
Selection; JASOUR
RACE SEVEN
Danger: Inisherin
Stepping up in trip could be the making of LORD OF LOVE, who won going away in first-time cheekpieces over 1m2f at Salisbury last month, and the well-bred son of Dubawi gets the vote to make his handicap debut a winning one Ciro Di Marzio wasn't disgraced when fourth in a novice event here last month and it would be no surprise to see him feature, especially with the extra couple of furlongs to potentially suit. Recent C&D winner Wonder Kid completes the shortlist, despite an 8lb hike asking a question of him
Selection; LORD OF LOVE
Danger: Ciro Di Marzio
TODAY’S FEATURE RACEMY PENSION EXPERT JULY CUP
The My Pension Expert July Cup, the centrepiece of the three-day July Festival, is one of the most valuable sprint contests in the European racing calendar, with the 2024 running worth an advertised £600,000. It forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series. Sponsored for the first time by My Pension Expert this year, the Group One event, run over six furlongs on the famous July Course, is widely acknowledged as the sprint championship of Europe
Springfield, bred by Queen Victoria at the Hampton Court Stud, took the inaugural running in 1876, and followed up a year later to become the first dual winner Springfield also proved top-class over longer distances, landing the Champion Stakes over 10 furlongs in 1877 Other outstanding victors in the early years included Sundridge, successful in 1902, 1903 and 1904 - the only triple winner in the history of the race The son of Amphion was a true rags to riches story, having graduated from selling company. He was also a great success at stud, being a highly influential sire in Europe and North America.
The great mare Diadem added to her victory in the 1917 1000 Guineas by scoring in 1919 and 1920. Diomedes, a grandson of Sundridge, recorded a brace of victories in 1925 and 1926, on the latter occasion dead-heating with Phalaros, while flying grey Abernant landed the spoils in 1949 and 1950
Another dual winner was Right Boy, triumphant in 1958 and 1959 The son of Impeccable, purchased for 575 guineas by his trainer Bill Dutton - the winning rider on 1928 Grand National victor Tipperary Tim - also landed the Nunthorpe Stakes twice, the King George Stakes twice, the Cork & Orrery Stakes twice (now the Platinum Jubilee Stakes) and the King’s Stand Stakes
In the 1970s, the July Cup was dominated by the formidable trainer-jockey partnership of Vincent O’Brien and Lester Piggott They hit the bullseye four times during the decade, kicking off with Thatch in 1973, followed by Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978) and Thatching (1979) Piggott continued his excellent form in the race into the next decade, securing the 1980 renewal aboard Moorestyle This kick-started an outstanding period for the July Cup, with the next five winners - Marwell (1981), Sharpo (1982), Habibti (1983), Chief Singer (1984) and Never So Bold (1985) - all rated as the best sprinter in Europe in their year
The 1990s saw two big upsets in the July Cup. Hamas, a 33-1 shot, triumphed under Willie Carson in 1993, getting the better of favourite College Chapel to deny Lester Piggott an 11th success in the event, while Compton Place shocked punters when landing the prize at 50-1 under Seb Sanders four years later.
Agnes World holds the distinction of being the first ever Japanese-trained winner in Britain when taking the 2000 July Cup Trained by Hideyuki Mori and ridden by ace Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, he prevailed in a thrilling finish by a short-head from Lincoln Dancer with another short-head back to Pipalong in third.
As with so many Group One races, Vincent O’Brien’s successor at Ballydoyle, the unrelated Aidan O’Brien, has enjoyed great success in the July Cup with a joint-record five winners courtesy of Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCCESSFUL HORSE:
Sundridge, the only triple winner, is the most successful horse in the July Cup. His victories came in 1902, 1903 and 1904
MOST SUCCESSFUL OWNER:
Jack Joel and Coolmore syndicates with various combinations of Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith with five wins each are the most successful owners
Joel was successful with Sundridge (1903, 1904), Spanish Prince (1912, 1913) and Golden Sun (1914)
The Coolmore winners so far are Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCCESSFUL TRAINERS:
Charles Morton, Vincent O’Brien and Aidan O’Brien share the honour of being the most successful trainer with five July Cup wins apiece.
Morton’s five winners were Sundridge (1903, 1904), Spanish Prince (1912, 1913), and Golden Sun (1914)
Vincent O’Brien scored with Thatch (1973), Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978), Thatching (1979) and Royal Academy (1990)
Aidan O’Brien’s five victories so far have come courtesy of Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCESSFUL JOCKEY:
Lester Piggott rode a record 10 July Cup winners - Vigo (1957), Right Boy (1958, 1959), Tin Whistle (1960), Thatch (1973), Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978), Thatching (1979), Moorestyle (1980). and Mr Brooks (1992)
Among the current generation, two jockeys have ridden two winners:

Adam Kirby – Lethal Force (2013), Harry Angel (2017)
Ryan Moore – US Navy Flag (2018), Ten Sovereigns (2019)

The age breakdown of winners since 1945 is below, showing that three years olds are the most successful age group, winning 39 of the 79 runnings in that time period (49.3 per cent strike rate).
In the 79 post-World War II runnings, favourites have prevailed on 32 occasions –a strike rate of 40.5 per cent

SUPERLATIVE STAKES (GROUP 2)
The youngest of the three Group Two contests staged at The July Festival for twoyear-olds, the Superlative Stakes was first run in 1972 as the Limekilns Plate and won by the Bernard van Cutsem-trained Great Love. In 1975, it was renamed the Limekilns Stakes.
From 1980 until 1990 it was named the Bernard van Cutsem Stakes in honour of the late Newmarket trainer before being known as the Superlative Stakes from 1991 onwards Heldoversevenfurlongs, itisopentocolts, geldingsandfillies, althoughrarelycontested by the latter. It has held Group Two status since 2006.
Shirley Heights (1977) was the best winner in the race’s early years and went on to win the Derby and Irish Derby in 1978. The 1991 winner Dr Devious also went on to score at Epsom Downs the following year while most recently City Of Troy (2023) was the spectacular six and a half lengths winner of the Superlative Stakes before going on to record an impressive victory in this year’s Derby.
Other significant winners over the years have included Dubawi (2004), who went on to win three Group One races the following year before a spectacular career at stud, and Olympic Glory (2012), a subsequent four-time Group One winner.
Sir Henry Cecil is the leading trainer of all-time in the contest with nine winners while among current handlers Charlie Appleby and Aidan O’Brien share the honours with a quartet of winners each
Steve Cauthen, Pat Eddery and Richard Hughes each rode four Superlative Stakes winners while the leading present-day jockeys are William Buick and Ryan Moore with three triumphs apiece.

CARRYTHEONE: Following its run on 20/6/2024 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.
ABDUCTION: Following its run on 7/7/2024 it was reported that the horse ran too freely
CARRYTHEONE did remarkably well to get third in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot given the trouble he met and can gain compensation from the same mark. Second choice is Gorak, who is closely matched with the selection on Rowley course form in the spring and is another who didn’t enjoy the rub of the green in the Buckingham Palace. Aalto, Divine Libra and last year’s third Awaal also make the shortlist.
Shaquille stole the show in the My Pension Expert July Cup last year, seeing off the likes of Kinross, Art Power and Khaadem who all reoppose again today.
Following up on his surprise win over hot-favourite Little Big Bear in the Commonwealth Cup, the Julie Camacho colt showed no mercy again to score by one and a quarter lengths.
Although slowly away and pulling hard early, he swooped through the field and finished with a burst of energy to defy favouritism.
The Henry Candy-trained Run To Freedom ran a creditable race in second, followed up by the British Champions Sprint Stakes winner Kinross.
AIDAN O’BRIEN

VANDEEK
Held a perfect record as a juvenile, rounding off an incredible season with victory in the Juddmonte Middle Park. Suffered defeat at the first effort as a three-yearold, behind rival today Inisherin, but will strip much fitter today and commands the upmost respect.
HHHHH
KHAADEM
80/1 winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes in 2023 and produced another career best to land the spoils again this year Charlie Hills veteran sprinter could well be overlooked in this competitive field and this course and distance winner could be set to pick up the pieces.

THE MY PENSION EXPERT JULY CUP STAKES PREVIEW
The July Festival reaches its peak today with the My Pension Expert July Cup. A Group One contest over six furlongs for three-year-olds and upwards, it has a total prize fund of £600,000 and forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
As befitting a race of such quality, six of the 12 declared runners are already Group One winners. These are headed by the top-rated INISHERIN. Sixth on his comeback this season in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, the three-year-old has excelled since dropping down in distance to six furlongs. After an impressive victory in the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park, he registered a comprehensive success last month in the Group One Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Another Royal Ascot winner lining up is KHAADEM, who as an eight-year-old is also the oldest horse in the race. Successful in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes for the past two years, he is competing in his third July Cup following a fourth in 2020 and a fifth in 2023 The Charlie Hills-trained gelding is joined by stablemate MITBAAHY, who was seventh to Khaadem at Royal Ascot but was successful in Group Two company in Ireland on his penultimate appearance.
One of the leading two-year-olds of 2023 was VANDEEK Unbeaten in four starts last season, including at Group One level in the Prix Morny at Deauville and in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs on the Rowley Mile, he disappointed on his comeback when only third to Inisherin at Haydock Park but is reported by connections to be back to form now.
The three other Group One winners in the field are all older horses ART POWER (2023) and KINROSS (2022) have won the latest two runnings of the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes. Both have also run well in previous July Cups, with Art Power taking fourth in 2021 and 2023 and Kinross coming home third a year ago REGIONAL is making his first visit to Newmarket but showed his quality by landing the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park last season and should come on for his second last time out in the Group One King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Aidan O’Brien has won the July Cup a joint-record five times, so his runners can never be discounted His representative today is RIVER TIBER. Twice third to Vandeek last season as well as in this year’s Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas, he could prove interesting dropped back in trip.
JASOUR is a course and distance winner at The July Festival, having been successful last year in the Group Two Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes He didn’t enjoy the best of runs when third to Inisherin at Royal Ascot and represents trainer Clive Cox who has been successful twice before with Lethal Force (2013) and Harry Angel (2017)
Completing the field are SWINGALONG, MILL STREAM and VADREAM, who finished second, third and fifth respectively to Khaadem last time out at Royal Ascot

INISHERIN is potentiallythe dominant 6f performer judged on his impressive Commonwealth Cup success and, with the obvious potential for further improvement on just his third start at the trip, there’s no real urge to take him on. Regional is a tough and most likeable sort who warrants plenty of respect, with Jasour, who shaped better than the bare result behind the selection last time, taken to fill the places.

Plenty in with a squeak but preference is for WONDER KID, who made it 2-2 in handicaps over C&D just over 3 weeks ago, and with surely better still to come, he’s one to keep onside. Ralph Beckett won this last year and he saddles a couple of interesting colts in Ciro di Marzio and Poniros, so they head up the opposition, with Lord of Love another to consider provided he keeps his quirks in check.

IMPORTANT NOTICES
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.
