Newmarket Racecard - Saturday 20th Septemeber

Page 1

A very warm welcome back to the historic Rowley Mile for this year’s Autumn Racing. The highlight of today’s racing is the Cesarewitch Trials, a key precursor to the famous Cesarewitch later in the season here at Newmarket.

In addition, we are pleased to share that the National Association of Racing Staff (NARS) are kindly sponsoring an extra Best Turned Out prize in the Pre-Parade Ring.

After racing we will be hosting ‘The Trainer’s Race’, a very exciting race featuring a selection of Newmarket’s trainers taking to the saddle Be sure to cheer them on, they are raising money for charity as part of the Henry Cecil Open Weekend.

Our sincere thanks go to all our sponsors for their valued support, which helps make days like today possible We are delighted to announce that Turners of Soham are our main sponsor for the day, generously supporting the whole card. We would also like to thank Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, for their ongoing sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility.

We wish the very best of luck to all owners, trainers, and jockeys taking part, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon for more worldclass racing here at Newmarket.

Best wishes,

Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world Mile Rowley The appreciate and assemble and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2025 season, the very best of luck.

THE NEWMARKET TRAINERS’ CHARITY RACE

IN SUPPORT OF THE NEWMARKET HOUSING TRUST

Welcome to the inaugural Newmarket Trainers’ Charity Race, the first event of its kind and one we hope marks the beginning of a lasting tradition Ridden exclusively by Newmarket-based trainers, this race is a true community effort, run in support of the Newmarket Housing Trust.

The Trust extends its sincere thanks to the trainers participating today and especially to the owners who have so generously provided their horses for the race. Your support is deeply appreciated.

By attending today’s meeting, you’re playing a vital role in helping the Newmarket Housing Trust, which proudly enters its second year of operation. Established by the Newmarket Trainers Group, the Trust’s missionissimplebutessential:toprovidesecure, affordable, andpurposebuilt accommodation for racing staff the often-unsung heroes who keep the racing industry running.

PHASE ONE A HOME FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

The first step in achieving this mission is already underway: the development of a Halls of Residence for young people aged 16–18 who are beginning their careers in racing. Located at The British Racing School, this residential facility will offer 20–25 bed spaces in a supportive, tailored environment for industry newcomers.

Thanks to the generous support of the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, we’ve made significant progress over the past year

PLANNING PROGRESS

We’re pleased to share that a formal planning application has been submitted for the development, which includes:

• 24 en-suite student bedrooms

• On-site warden’s accommodation

• Communal living area

The application has been validated and we are currently awaiting a decision from East Cambridgeshire District Council expected imminently.

LOOKING AHEAD

PHASE TWO

While the Halls of Residence mark an important first step, the Trust’s long-term vision is broader. We aim to create a portfolio of flats and houses across Newmarket to meet the wider housing needs of racing staff providing quality homes that reflect the value these individuals bring to the industry

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

By joining us today, bidding in the charity auction, or attending the Newmarket Open Weekend, you’re helping to turn this vision into reality. Every contribution brings us one step closer to a future where all racing staff have access to safe, suitable housing.

Thank you once again for your support together, we are building something that will benefit the racing community for generations to come.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY TO RACECOURSE

Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the racecourse any person without assigning a reason. In particular, any instance of unruly behaviour, such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting, shall entitle the Racecourse Executive toexpel the offending racegoer without prior notice Racegoers must abide by any regulations including the observance of designated non-drinking areas

At Newmarket Racecourses we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”.

We’re all unique, and no more so than in our sense of style and comfort For some, wearing a nice sweatshirt, pair of jeans and clean trainers is what makes them feel confident and at-ease. For others, they might prefer to turn heads with a sharp suit or glamorous dress and high heels, particularly for one of our big race meetings

But whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible.

Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.

We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic. So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.

Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse

EMERGENCY NOTICE

In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse. We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Newmarket Racecourses Management and security staff They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings

FEEDBACK

We are always pleased to hear from our customers and are grateful for any feedback you can provide about your visit today. There are short contact forms available online at thejockeyclub.co.uk/ newmarket and we value your comments

THE COURSE IS FOR HORSES

Please keep off the track. The track is for horses, their jockeys and stable staff, please keep them and yourselves safe by remaining inside the barriers Anyone trespassing on the track will be: Liable to arrest and prosecution; Ejected immediately; Banned from all future Newmarket race meetings; May face a nationwide racecourse ban.

HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE

The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirementswhilstyouareatNewmarket Racecourses. We would request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing area and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse We would also like to remind racegoers that we do have a first aid room Should anyone require any assistance please speak to the nearest steward

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
