ONE MILE about 68 YARDS (8f abt 68yds) (1600m)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Second Race

RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a six furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (20-25): I Jardine (43 wins from 352 runners, 12%) runs NAUGHTY BOY

RACE SUMMARY: NEVASCA CINZA couldn’t justify support but made a promising start when third at Carlisle and can build on it to recoup losses here at the chief expense of form choice Passing Thought who rates a big danger. Showtown is improving with racing and can also have a say, while debutant Naughty Boy also needs factoring in, especially if the betting speaks in his favour.

THE SIR IAN GOOD MEMORIAL NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4)

RACE DESCRIPTION

A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular five furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 80.

(CLASS 4) (GBBPLUS RACE)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

THE HEINEKEN LOW & NO BAR HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

THE BOOK YOUR CHRISTMAS PARTIES HERE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds only which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

THE HAMPTON BY HILTON HAMILTON PARK CONFINED HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (FOR HORSES WITH NO WIN IN 2025)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 60 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55.
