Good afternoon and welcome back to Haydock Park for Betfred Temple Stakes Day! So far this week we’ve enjoyed two days of great racing and the excitement is set to continue throughout the afternoon.
Today’s feature race is the Group Two Betfred Temple Stakes, which is run over five furlongs. The race, which gets underway at 3.30pm, is a popular starting place for some of the top speedsters in training each season.
Also on the card is the Group Two Betfred Sandy Lane Stakes for three-year-olds, which is seen as a key trial for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Betfred for their support of racing todaywe wish them a wonderful day with us
After today, we next race on Friday the 9th of June, while on the following day we will be hosting the John of Gaunt Stakes
On top of a summer calendar jam packed full of great racing, we also have the return of our Music Nights and will be joined by both Craig David on June 24th and Nile Rogers & Chic on August 11. We can’t wait!
To find out more about all our fixtures, head on over to our website www. thejockeyclub.co.uk/haydock.
For now, I’d like to thank you all for joining us today and wish you a lovely afternoon.
Warm wishes,

I’d like to welcome all our annual badge holders to Betfred Temple Stakes Day at Haydock Park The Temple is a fantastic test of exceptionally quick equine talent. Previous winners of this contest include Dayjur, Lochsong, Sole Power and the fantastic Battaash Today’s field looks thoroughly competitive and hopefully we see a performance to match the aforementioned brilliance of those already named
The supporting card consisting of the Sandy Lane and Silver Bowl is likely to give us Royal Ascot clues with the classic generation represented in both races.
There is available to you the usual menagerie of facilities mentioned at your disposals from your reserved seating area to private boxes to view todays action
It is fantastic that the weather has been so kind to us for this fixture and the racecourse’s horticultural team talent can be shown throughout the site
As is usual at this time of year, the action comes thick and fast at Haydock Park in the forth coming weeks with the John of Gaunt Stakes coming up in just two weeks time. The flat season climaxes with the Sprint Cup in early September.
I hope you have an enjoyable and successful afternoons racing. I look forward to seeing many of you through the day.

A number arrive with a little to prove but that can’t be said for AULD TOON LOON who produced his best effort yet when runner-up on handicap debut at Wetherby 11 days ago and, with the prospect of more to come now upped further in trip, he looks a solid proposition. C’mon Kenny clearly hasn’t been easyto train but market support behind him would look significant with William Buick aboard. In The Breeze is also on a workable mark.

An opening mark of 90 could easily underestimate the very promising COVEYwho can add to his 2 easy wins in maiden/novice company this spring. Clive Cox has won this race twice since 2018 and Just Bring It may provide the chief threat on the back of his fine second at Newmarket last weekend. James McHenry, a good winner over C&D a fortnight ago, and the unexposed Royal Cape complete the shortlist.

Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 8.
Stewards Note: LITTLE BIG BEAR: Following its run on 6/5/2023 it was reported that the horse finished lame. THE RIDLER: Following its run on 22/4/2023 it was reported that the horse ran too free.
MATILDAPICOTTE: Following its run on 7/5/2023 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed under pressure.
Probable S.P’s: 9-4 Little Big Bear (IRE), 7-2 Bradsell (GB), 11-2 Cold Case (GB), 15-2 Al Dasim (IRE), 9-1 Matilda Picotte (IRE), 18-1 Shouldvebeenaring (GB), 20-1 Mill Stream (IRE), 50-1 The Ridler (GB)
LITTLE BIG BEAR had legitimate excuses when trailing home last in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket 3 weeks ago so is well worth another chance to confirm the form of his devastating win inthe Phoenix Stakes atthe Curragh last summer Bradsellwas 1 1/2 lengths behind Cold Case in the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot but that was his first run since suffering a season-ending injury in the Phoenix Stakes, so last year’s Coventry winner may emerge as the biggest threat.
TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.LITTLE BIG BEAR (IRE) 2.BRADSELL 3.COLD CASE
RESULTS
We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

Plenty are in with a shout. INDIAN FALCON still looked a work in progress when scoring on his return at Pontefract (form been franked) and can take another sizeable step forward to follow up on his first go in handicaps. Thirsk scorer William Dewhirst also has better days ahead of him and is next on the list with the handily-weighted Herakles and turf debutant Due Date completing the shortlist.

ZAINALARAB ended his 3-y-o campaign in a bit of a lull, but its significant connections have kept the faith with him (gelded in the interim), so’s put forward as a tentative selection returning from 8 months off Frankie Dettori gets on board Roman Dragon for the first time, and he could give the selection most to think about with a recent run under his belt, ahead of Persuasion and Royal Pleasure, in what looks a wide-open finale.

All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
